  1. Nothing against a Falcon, but I think I'd find a better home for that motor. With the center exhaust it just begs to be put in a mid-engined car.
  2. There should be an idle adjustment screw on the throttle body, I would check that first. Someone could have compensated for the plugs/wires going bad by bumping up the idle a bit.
  3. Beautiful Car!! No affiliation, etc: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Westfield-Lotus-Eleven-Le-Mans_W0QQitemZ370235204188QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item5633bce25c&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
  4. Yeehaaaaa!!!!
  5. I thought I'd start a thread listing magazines that have Lotus Seven content in it. I'm sure I have some more but it'll take some searching. Classic and Sportscar, 7/91 - Buying guide S1-S4, Twin Cam SS featured in photos. Per Martin's thread. Classic and Sportscar, 11/94 - Nice drive report of a Series 1 through the UK countryside with various Lotus related stops. Classic and Sportscar, 5/00 - Lotus Seven Comparison, S1-S4, with an added feature of a Superlight R500. Classic and Sportscar, 10/07 - "Best Ever Sports Car?" Another nice comparison of the S1-S4 models. If anybody would like to add to the list that would be great. It'll give me something to search for on Ebay or the next swap meet!
  6. Martin - I picked up that same copy at a swap meet at the LRP Vintage Fall Festival many years ago. Lots of good info and the main feature car is one of the 13 original Twin Cam SS models. I think I'll start a separate thread listing magazines with Lotus Seven features in it....
  7. You're not getting away that easy. As soon as it's done we want pics!
  8. Nice looking Elite for sale on Ebay. But I don't remember seeing one with a single SU carb before. No affiliation, etc: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lotus-Elite-Series-I-Lotus-Elite-Series-I-RHD_W0QQitemZ200365878184QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item2ea6bcaba8&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A2148
  9. I thought I'd throw this info out there for Birkin owners that have any assy/dissy questions. I have a hard copy at home but forgot that it was available online: http://www.birkindirect.com/BuildDoctor.aspx It came in handy when I was fixing all the DPO's mistakes! :ack:
  10. Boy I guess you did, congrats!
  11. Beautiful car! I think I read there were only 13 original Twincams ever made.
  12. I noticed it too. I agree that it'd be a nice stablemate to a Seven but for completely different reasons. Check out this thread on my first drive in a '66 Corvette: http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=3805&highlight=corvette

  14. Do you have any details on this?
  15. Lotus Owners Of New York: http://www.lotusowners.com/ There's a few nice Sevens for sale there.
  16. I believe this is the same car that's on LOONY and now is on Ebay. $16k starting bid with no reserve. No affiliation, etc: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-Birkin-Super-Seven-Replica_W0QQitemZ180383057405QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item29ffab05fd&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A317
  17. That is sweet! :iagree: A few more Sevens in CT would be nice!!
  18. Those Caterham seats must be a lot more comfortable than Birkin seats!
  19. What a cool car/history! You better hang onto that ride! I agree with Chip. I have a '64 MGB that I purchased from the original owner 17 years ago, and the only changes I've made are bolt-on stuff that can go back to original when I want to.
  20. Sean - Check out your tire size thread...
  21. Check out the following thread. Some people had it easier than I did, but I got it done in the end. The nice thing is there's no emissions testing req'd in CT: http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2716
  22. If everything's working fine you might not want to! This is not a photo from my car but one I borrowed from Gert (aka Slomove). It's typical of what you'll find when you remove the scuttle. My car was actually a bit worse than this, with soldered wires covered with tape, wires soldered to the switches, and wires that didn't attach to anything. The second photo is after the re-wire. Edit: Actually I have the photos switched and the 1st photo is the "after" photo...
  23. "The car is looking great! I really like the new wheels." - Thanks Jeff. I lost 8-9 lbs per corner in switching to the new wheel/tire combination! "How easy was it to redo your dash, its about the only part on my Birkin I haven't pulled apart yet to have a look at, it seems pretty easy to remove the scuttle only a few bots I think hold it on." Kiwi - It wasn't too bad to remove the scuttle. From memory, there's the (4) windshield bolts, (4) nuts on the sides of the scuttle, and 8 nuts/screws along the front base of the scuttle (I had to remove the battery to get access to some of the screws). You also have to disconnect the wipers/arms, the master cylinder reservoirs, and any other wiring/hoses that pass through the scuttle. Then you have to disconnect the wiring from the back of the gauges/switches so they can be removed. The worst part of the whole job was seeing how bad the original wiring was on my 2001 car and the time it took to completely re-wire the whole mess. :banghead: I'll see if I can find some pictures of the before and after wiring when I get home later.
  24. Welcome Sean, nice looking ride! I'm a little partial to the bare ali, BRG, yellow nose cone look! I think CR500's have a pretty good reputation for a mostly road with some track use tire. I think on the Cats they come with 195 x 15" size in either 45 or 50 profile (I can't remember which). They are also pretty expensive so unless they're old and hard, I'd use them for a while and wear them out! :driving: I think you'll find that a Seven doesn't need really big tires unless you're traction limited with huge amounts of hp! I replaced my original 195/50x15 Firestone tires with 205/50x15 tires to be able to get a better selection of tires and to get a little taller gearing on the highway. I think you could fit 205's on a 6.5" rim if you decided to go with a taller/wider tire. Where abouts in Ct are you? There are a few local Seven owners that try to get together occasionally, just to go for a drive and to hang out. We always have room for another Seven!
  25. Welcome 7veloce, nice looking ride!
