Hi Paul. I sent you a PM.

It is with great disappointment that I have to put this Birkin up for sale. We purchased this back in July so Nancy and I could have "hers" and "his" Birkins, but my employent situation is changing so we have to get rid of one of them. This is a new Birkin roller S/N BIY1986 that has never been assembled. Here is a link to the original ad when Pat P. had it for sale: http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=3401 The supplied engine is a 2001 ZX3 Zetec out of a Ford Focus wagon with appr 29k miles on it. The transmission is a rebuilt T9 with a short input shaft suitable for the Birkin bellhousing. This comes with just about every Birkin build pack including heater, mirrors, elec speedo, starter, gear lever, eng/trans mount, header/muffler/shield, clutch slave, alternator, driveshaft, and much more. It also comes with a new Airtex fuel pump. I was planning on using a Raceline water rail, but I do have the aluminum block that mounts between the head and the thermostat housing to space it out to fit in the Birkin configuration if you wanted to go that route. All that will be needed to complete is a new clutch/pressure plate/flywheel and a RWD configuration wet sump. This has been stored under a car cover in my garage since purchase. Some of the improvements that the 2002 Birkin has over my 2001 Birkin are the Outlaw 4-piston calipers, upper front control arms that are easily adjusted for camber, electrical system with fuses/relays accessible under the hood, and "much" more comfortable seats. One of our Birkins has to go so if someone wants to make an offer on my much upgraded 2001 I would consider that as well. Here's a link to my Birkin: http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2287 The price for the 2002 Birkin roller with all build packs, engine, and transmission is what I paid for it, $16000. I would be willing to help with delivery within a reasonable distance. If you need any more detailed photos or have any questions let me know.

She'd have to settle for a Targa for that age group. Get a PPI and WATCH OUT FOR RUST!!!

Mazda - I think Martin meant Targa's when he said they were available from '67 to the present. The first 911 Cabriolet came out in 1983, the last year of the SC models with the 3.0 CIS motors. The '84-'89 Carrera models had the 3.2 motors with a more modern DME controlled FI system which I think is a big improvement. The '87-'89 models also had the more durable G50 transmission which I prefer over the previous 915 transmission. But if you find a '83-'86 915-equipped car that it's in good condition, that can be a bargain compared to the '87-'89 models. These are the last of the classic bodied, torsion bar equipped cars. The 964 model 911 came out in '89 as a Carrera 4, the AWD version with coil spring suspension and the 247hp 3.6 motor. In 1990 they came out with the Carrera 2 RWD model which is usually prefered due to the reduced complexity, weight, and cost to repair when something goes wrong. Also, the 964 and later cars had a much improved heating/ventilation/AC system if that's important to your friend. I'm not too familiar with the 993 models other they had a 6-speed, improved rear suspension, and a little more hp than the 964 models (270?), and were the last of the air-cooled cars. I have no personal experience with the 996 cars, although I did a PCA DE in a 2005 997 Carrera S model and it was so much faster than the driver that it almost made me look fast! I think the general consensus is to get a PPI and buy the latest, best condition example you can afford. I would do some research on Pelican and Rennlist and go from there.

Looking for an extra spare tire frame if anybody has one. Well used is fine.
-
Probably doesn't apply to this thread, but I bought my Birkin as a running dealers demo with a little over 200 miles on it and spent the next 5 1/2 years repairing and upgrading the car until I finally got it running (again!) in 9/07. That has to be some kind of record for futility! :banghead:

Dean - I think that's a TR6 in the background so he's probably just a "little" bit less of a glutton for punishment compared to a Jensen-Healey owner!

Nice photos Kiwi, that looks like a fun time! -
Used ones also come up for sale on Blatchat occasionally. I did a search for "6-speed", "last two years", "titles only", in the "for sale" section and came up with 16 gearboxes. Generally in the 1200-1500 British Pounds range, or approximately $2000-2500. Then you'd have to have it shipped which would be pretty expensive. Do a search here: http://www.blatchat.com/searchsp.asp I think it'd be pretty hard to find a used one for sale in the US...

Well, I was mistaken when I said it was a Westfield. It was actually an aluminum bodied replica based on a Caterham DeDion chassis. It looks like it has some pretty decent sized AO48's and the ad said it was competitive with R500's. Now all we have to do is find the present owner and get him to run it at the Ring! Dean - I don't have any idea on times, but I think a Westfield 11 would be seriously compromised by the 1275cc motor and the really skinny tires that are typically used. I have seen a Zetec motor in a Westfield 11 which should level the playing field some, but I'm not sure what size tires you could fit under the bodywork. It would be interesting to see what one could do suitably modified! :auto: -
Nice looking, well equipped, 2010 Birkin IRS Duratec. No affiliation other than a satisfied customer of Dick Brink. http://www.texasmotorworks7.com/webtemplate.aspx?iid=2462910

I agree with the comments above. But I do give the guy credit for being upfront about the s/n....I've seen a lot worse!

Nicely done, but it looks like it has a few too many Caterham/Birkin parts for me. Pretty optimistic Buy-It-Now as well. No affiliation, etc: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1965-Lotus-Seven-7-Series-2-not-Caterham_W0QQitemZ260495868124QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item3ca6c380dc
