  1. Not to :_deadhorse:... but it seems that the first time buyer takes the big hit no matter what the brand, then things level off for all the main brands. And if you look at the price of new Caterhams vs used an argument could be made that they take the biggest hit of all as they are now so expensive. The good thing is there's a price range for all and you'll probably get little depreciation on any high quality 7 if you buy a previously owned one.
  2. I don't see how they would need to raise gas tax as it's a percentage of the cost (not amount of gas purchased).... with the current prices, they should be having a similar "windfall" as profits from oil companies....
  3. Except for the ticket, sounds like a very enjoyable trip.... especially the lack of other cars getting in the way.
  4. If you get some, I recommend Kics. I've used these as you don't have to mess with your studs. It's a straight bolt up deal (just locktite & torque). Don't know about hub strength but they use them on drift cars and they work fine on my Infiniti G35 coupe. An inch is a pretty big spacer.. though I do have 1 inch spacers on the rear of my 67 Chev Pick Up. http://www.evasivemotorsports.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=Kics_Wheel_Spacer
  5. Nice driving Kevin! So was that a video of the last session? Curious if you lowered the tire pressure on those slicks after John mentioned their typical heat range... It was fun hanging out with the two of you. There's an open invitation to dinner next time your this far west.
  6. That's exactly the idea I had when buying a 7:cheers: . Not so sure about the all weather/commuting part though as it's the heat here in Btown, not the rain, that limits the fun factor. But that just means getting up early, not too big a deal:cool: Did notice how they didn't show that gal getting out of the car in her business skirt:rofl:
  7. Yesterday I was thinking about my G35 coupe's gas mileage, which is terrible, averaging about 18 miles per gallon. But to make more sense out of it (for me anyway) Looks like I'm getting about 4 miles to the dollar:ack: That's figuring I'm paying $4.50 a gallon (actually more now).
  8. yeah, I liked him too.... 58 is not that old
  9. They have some chrome paint now that really looks the part... really expensive too
  10. Beautiful:thumbs: Did you you change the fuel cell back to a tank (pics with fuel pump)? Nice custom work. Great job!
  11. My other 2 dream cars:thumbs: Hmmm - can't upload pic of GT40 & old Mercedes convertible:confused:
  12. Mondo

    118 on site!!!

Looks like a record set today... hmm, come to the dark side all you lurkers:reddevil:
  13. Oh, I almost forgot. He helped me adjust my fuel gauge too.... as I ran out of gas a mile or so from the racetrack Saturday afternoon:ack: . Seems I adjusted the gauge for full but not empty and it said half a tank when I ran it dry... Now the empty is adjusted correctly. Kevin (with his trailer) and a guy with a group of Atoms came out to me with fuel. There were some awesome cars there: 3 or 4 Atoms, a superfast Morgan, a fast Caterham (until a U joint/driveshaft went thru his tunnel into the passenger seat area:nonod: and perhaps a toasted Quaiffe sequential tranny):ack:
  14. Well I spent most the day with Kevin & Harmony today (Sunday). All I can say is they have a lot of perseverance... I don't want to steal their thunder but Kevin had a slightly off track excursion in morning practice that lead to a cracked oil pan and a couple tubes of JB Weld:leaving: He had to miss the first track session and had to cut the second one short due to his fuel tank not venting resulting in fuel starvation. He got several laps in but I didn't get his time/postion before I had to leave. Hopefully 3rd time (session) is the charm and he will have smooth sailing. I do want to thank them for letting me hang around. They are very friendly/nice folks and Kevin is lucky to have such a supportive wife (which he readily admits). He did give me a quick spin (like quarter mile drag race)in his car and I can tell you without a doubt it is the fastest vehicle (car or bike) that I've ever been in. I've had fantasies of a supercharger but can tell you I'm not worthy:o. The thing, hooked up with slicks, took my breath away :willy: And that was just in a straight line, I'd probably have to change shorts if he took me for a ride on the track;) So I figure I have plenty of time to save up for the upgrade as I have a long ways to go before being ready for anything close to that:thumbs:
  15. Saturday the Bakersfield Firefighters are putting on a little car show for the Burn Foundation. I just retired from the BFD so I plan on stopping by there in the morning and going out to Buttonwillow early afternoon for a little bit (been to Willow Springs a couple times but not Buttonwillow). Figure Kevin will have a little more time for chit chat or whatever Saturday and then go Sunday afternoon to watch him race. Taking the S2K both days.
  16. Sweeet:thumbs: More pics!
  17. Look in the General Section as there is a discussion on this vary topic. Basically boils down to what you want to use it for, if pedigree is important, and how big you are (including feet;) ) There also are a couple great deals on a Deman & Ultralite in the for sale section. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=2517
  18. My wife never rode on my sportbike (the rear seat and footpegs weren't on for long) and she has no desire to ride in the 7. The kids enjoy it though:)
  19. Nice driving.... interesting choice for soundtrack Went pretty fast on my sportbike at Willow but seeing this makes me feel like I'm going to be a wuss when I take my S2K out there:o Oh well, I'll work my way up I guess.
  20. excellent driving:thumbs: Only hope to be that smooth, I know already that I'll be a little apprehensive on high speed corners:willy:
  21. I could of sworn I read a DMV section about motorcycle engined cars not being allowed in California. But didn't see anything prohibiting it in the actual verbiage of SB100 material... I don't remember the name of the site but it's like google earth and many of us have put ourselves on it. You can see who's around you and it has our emails etc. Someone here will remember the name of it. I just got my S2K but it needs a little more shakedown before I'd say it's representative of the breed. Your welcome to come up to Bako and check it out.
  22. Just so you know, a motorcycle engined car can't be registered in California. Also, a California car already registered takes a lot of hassle out of purchasing a 7. Otherwise, join the DMV lottery on January 1st for the 500 annual exceptions. I lost out last year but the odds are still pretty good to get one if you have your paperwork in order. Furthermore, an out of State car with 7500 miles that is registered pre1972 should get thru the system without inspection. You need to read up on this as it can be a real pain in the keester to register a kit car in California. PS- if Loren's deal came up last year I'd probably of taken him up on it (short of WCM's owner, Brian, I don't think anyone has put more S2Ks together). Have him install the SC while your at it; he, and Kevin, got the most experience at that too:thumbs:
  23. I'm sure all the new motors are very reliable... with computer/fuel injection etc.. It's just the honda is supposed to be 240hp bone stock and over 300 at the rear wheels with bolt on SC (closer to 400 if you've got the resources for custom ECU & tuning etc..). Plus WCM uses the engine/transmission & ECU; pretty much the whole drivetrain except for the subaru independant rear end. I'm not trying to hype WCM, just the reasons why I bought it. I think the interior/weatherkit of Caterhams & Birkins are much more refined (of course Powder's S2K interior is pretty nice;) ). Not to mention their resale value etc.. There's lots of reasons we buy or build different makes. Obviously we all like to be different or we wouldn't have these cars or be on this site
