  1. It always cracks me up when people rag on the government for wasting money and not doing things like a private business... the biggest rip off of taxpayers are the private businesses constantly cheating the goverrnment. Can you imagine how bad it would be if corporations were in charge (some think they currently are under Bush), think of all those future sci-fi movies like bladerunner.... my two cents..

    Thanks Vets!

4 year wingnut, (no action and fond memories)....
  3. Man, I didn't think he was going to make past that first ridge...
  4. From what I can find, in California, the car has to have at least 7500 miles to transfer registration from another state. Less than that and you have to meet current smog, I don't think you can do the SB100 on a used car either... which I guess leaves the option of putting it on jacks and runnnig to get past 7500miles
  5. If you want it street legal make sure it's ok in your state (bike engined cars are not in California)

    Awesome race

I think it was called something else before 'SpeedTV".... I actually liked watching the races that others wouldn't send top camera crews to. Most of them didn't have big sponsorships etc... and you could tell they were just racing of the fun of it. The first big time events I watched were WRC & the Dacar desert races... Anyway, your probably right on the big races. And Soeed will probably steal any shows that start getting good ratings. But there's a lot of stuff out there and I'm sure they can make it.
  7. This is the car that first got me interested in a Lotus 7. It's actually my screensaver as Brian is building me a S2K, in black/silver (orange was a close second but I've actually seen more of them in pics). I'm even going with the same dash... They say it's a form of flattery to imitate, just glad your on the other side of the country. I'd do the underside exhaust too as I like the clean look but I don't think you can with a honda (it comes with a nice header)...

    Awesome race

I've emailed that webpage to a bunch of my friends who are also fed up with trying to find something good between the nascar shows.. Wish they'd just create a Nascar channel and be done with it

    Rust belt blues

I've always said they should give Bakersfield, Ca the motto " 2 hours from where you want to be"... You can be at the ocean surfing or in the mountains skiing (depending on time of year you could probably do both in a long day). We're at the end of the central valley with mountains on 3 sides and have some great roads ... Also a little over an hour away from 2 pretty good racetracks; Willow Springs & Buttonwillow. Only thing, it gets freakin HOT in the summer time.... but that keeps the cost of homes down (relatively speaking) and the LA crowd away. Getting ready to retire and have looked around but the variety of things California offers is hard to beat. I'll probably move to the surrounding foothills, off the valley floor and it's heat/smog.
  10. Obi wan, You wouldn't happen to be the same Obi wan on the Triumph motorcycle forum T595.net would you? Oh yeah... most excellent 7 dude
  11. Got to agree with slngsht. been watching motogp for the several years and it's been quite competitive (well this year was a bit boring but the 250gp bikes were great). World superbike, with the one manufacture tire rule as been good too. Do they still show world rally on speed? I loved it but haven't seen it for a couple years...
  12. I saw a WCM (which I'm having built too) that had a center mirror somehow coming off the center pin that holds down the hood. I thought that was pretty trick. Don't know how they did it though..
  13. I'm getting a top (weather kit) for mine. It comes with a driver's wiper (only get 6 inches of rain a year so it's not likely to be used). I bought it for the early morning winter rides. I will probably get some kind of bikini top as shade is more important than rainproofing around here...
  14. Brian is building a car for me as well. Should have it by the end of the year. In California you can register on January 1st as they give out 500 smog exempt registrations for kit cars. That doesn't exclude a safety check. As far as it being registered first in another State, California says it needs to have at least 7500 miles on it to be exempt. You might want to check that angle. Guess I could get a drill hooked up to the speedo..
  15. Nice Article on Crash.net... (sorry if already posted) http://www.crash.net/motoring/review~tid~399~id~15858.htm
  16. For a more reasonable version of the same thing... http://www.race-car-replicas.com/rcrproadster.html wanted the GT40 but it's price has gone out of my range, thus the ultralite on order
  17. Did you see the maintenance guide for the Atom:eek: I saw they were having a problem with wheel bearings too. I'm sure they'll get them dialed in but at the prices they're asking:banghead:
  18. That's the car I first saw a few months ago and got me looking into a Lotus 7. If it would of had the honda motor I'd of bought it. I do like the exhaust out the rear, nice clean look...
  19. RV, Brian is starting my ultralite and hope to have it in November/December so I can register it Jan 1st as SB100. Have you thought about getting it registered? Hope to see you next year...
  20. Charles, Brian is building me one as well (and it's black too). Post up some pics in "member rides" so I can drool in anticipation!
  21. Had a similar experience on my sportbike last summer only it was the mother cow I was focused on when the calf came out of nowhere.... then there was the time I came around the bend and a big bird took off but ended up in my lap:eek: glad to see it ended up a close call.
  22. I'm stepping off my sportbike, and into a WCM, because my bike is insanely fast and after 5 years I still find myself going speeds that belong on the track. I've done a couple track days and loved it so my option was a dedicated track bike for trackdays (turning 50 and my racing days are behind me) or a car like this that I can actually drive to the track (2 are close by). I intend to do some spirited driving in the foothills and the worry of coming across a patch of dirt shouldn't be as frightening as when dragging a knee (well a little exageration but close:lol: ). I think autocrossing will be fun too.
  23. Hi, Well lets see... I used to have a Lotus Europa in the early 80s and knew of the 7s. After looking at the performance of these current models I decided on a WCM Ultralite S2K and hope to have it in December. I end my career with the Fire Department here in Bakersfield, California at the end of the year and this will hopefully keep the adrenaline flowing. Actually, as I enter my 50s, I'm stepping off a sportbike since my speeds keep increasing and I anticipate an unhappy ending. I live near Willowsprings and Buttonwillow raceways (both a little over an hour away). Having done some track days on a bike, my goal is to drive to these type events (and drive home..). Maybe do a little autox and a lot of Sunday morning drives in the foothills. It gets very hot here but from the advice I hear on this board an A/C (which they offer) is really futile. Looks like early morning drives... which is pretty much what I do now with the bike. Well, glad I found this site and any advice on the build would be appreciated.
