  1. I am also headed to Atlanta Motorsports Park on March 10 with Just Track It. Fun, technical track if you have not tried it before.
  2. Bumping this thread. Registration is open here: https://chintrackdays.com/subevent.aspx?q=i39d%2fTcuI24%3d. I registered for the Sunday only option - only 6 spots are left! More availability for the 2 day option.
  3. I love the color. Very distinctive and suits the car well!
  4. Great tips, thank you. @Croc great advice on the paint - I was curious if the paint would be consistent coming from the factory. @IamScotticusthanks for the offer - my wife tells me there is a hobby lobby right beside us. Never been in there, but I will try tomorrow!
  5. I had an unfortunate incident with the left rear wing. See the pics below. The rear wing is relatively cheap at Caterham, and I assume they could paint it to match my "OEM" paint. Problem is that the rear wing is out of stock. I track this thing a lot, so I am not dead set on a new wing. Just want to not fail tech. Any ideas? Drift ties? Auto tape?
  6. Agreed with lota of folks on 13" wheels, battery cutoff (battery drain), aeroscreen (I run it on the street with full face helmet because it is so much fun), and high level brake light (10 minutes to install). I will add something new - lightweight flywheel. The car spins up so much faster, and the engine braking is much stronger. Great for track and also fun on the street. Honestly, the bottom line is that you can't go wrong, in my humble opinion.
  7. Looking good. During my build, my buddy introduced me to the most effective tool: the BFH. That's Big F*cking Hammer. Rubber preferably!
  8. Those seats look great. I would never guess they were nearly 20 years old.
  9. Downright tame under 4,000 - 5,000 rpm, but it really kicks into stride above that. Perfect for the street / mountain roads and avoiding jail. Not slow by any means, but the old saying has proven true for me - more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. My prior fun cars were mostly fast cars being driven slow around town. On track, I could use more power, but these things corner and handle like nothing else. They inspire a TON of confidence. In fairness, Josh at Rocky Mountain Caterham thought that I would want more power given my past fun cars. I suspect that I would have enjoyed a 360 or 420, and my second one may very well be one of those (if they still exist). Seriously, very happy to help if I can. Good luck!
  10. Good to see another one in the Southeast. I am in Atlanta and happy to make a jaunt up there if you need a hand or have a question. I finished mine in May, so some things are still fresh!
  11. Rotors are a little hot!
  12. Yep that's my middle son/co-builder and me, headed to basketball practice. We take it everywhere!
  13. Heading there Sunday! If you hear back sometime, let me know. I would love to see another 7 on the track around here. Ever tried Talladega Gran Prix Raceway? I would like to give it a shot.
  14. Don't forget Atlanta Motorsports Park. Private track, but many clubs will have HPDE days. Headed there in a few weeks then in October also.
  15. One of the things that got me interested in our fun little cars was the tax avoidance story about disassembly instructions read in reverse. See here if you are not aware of the story: https://petrolicious.com/articles/how-the-exceedingly-simple-lotus-seven-survived-for-over-60-years. I would love to put my hands on those disassembly instructions. What a great non-driving accessory (in my mind at least). I have searched and searched online, but with no luck. Any ideas from the group? PS - Sorry if this is a repost - I thought I submitted previously, but perhaps not.
  16. Smarter folks than me can answer your question directly. But, in case you want an easy/quick fix just for inspection, I know that many folks in my prior community (Cobra replicas) will install manual wipers for inspection then run without any wipers. Perhaps your inspection office will allow those as well.
  17. One more to add: 2001 Caterham Super 7 upd for auction here: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/36EPPdXy/2001-caterham-super-7
  18. On that big of a delivery charge, I would ask to see the quote directly from the shipper. Not sure if it is typical for the importer to tack on a bit of a surcharge, but I would still like to know the base rate. It seems very high, but then again everything seems high these days.
  19. Looks good to me. But FYI I have the same / new LED license plate light (but not the very cool looking other LED lights). The bracket fits fine. But if your command strip solutions works, save the money for another upgrade! Or track time.
  20. I zip tied mine across the roll bar at first. Maybe not legal, but (like you) I didn't want to drill through the skin. Then Josh Robbins with Rocky Mountain Caterham advised that he had a few brackets. See below. You may want to contact him. I had to remove and then reinstall my license plate light, but it works great.
  21. You forgot to add that mom and/or dad would have a cigarette in hand! Different time for sure! @Seanis spot on. Ear plugs and over the ear protection. I have a bit of hearing loss, probably because I didn't think to use protection when I should have. At least that was my decision, whereas the kiddos are counting on us! All - thank you for the thoughts.
  22. Any ideas for kid sized 4, 5, or 6 point harnesses? My boys are too small for the Caterham supplied versions.
  23. I just registered in NC a few weeks ago. Caterham kit build. It was super easy. I called the Hayesville tag office and told them I needed an inspection. They gave me the cell number of an inspector/cop. He travelled between the various Western North Carolina tag offices, so I confirmed when he would be nearby. That was the Franklin tag office 2 or 3 days later. He ran the VIN / chassis number to confirm nothing was stolen. He also matched it to the manufacturer's statement / certificate of origin. He asked me what it was, and I told him it was a 1962 Lotus Seven replica. He googled it and confirmed they looked similar. I then walked into the tag office with his "not stolen" report, proof of insurance, the MV5 form (2 sentences explaining that I built the car from a kit with all brand new parts), and all build invoices from my importer. Paid the tax ($1,800 or so if memory serves). 10 minutes later, I walked out of the Franklin tag office with a real / metal tag. Official registration paperwork and vanity plate will arrive in 4 weeks. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
  24. Key on my list are noise cancelling headphones. Still, my 6.5 hour drive yesterday left me worn out!
  25. I put in 5 gallons at the suggestion of a forum or blog somewhere. The issue (I believe) was that cars were having trouble starting, or would start then die. More fuel seemed to solve the problem.
