    Weigh In...

My Ultralite XR7 weighs in at 1123# dry and empty of me and the ballast needed to get the car up to 1420# for SCCA D Mod minimum weight.
  5. This discussion finally got me to go take a look at mine. It is still running, the band smells like my clothes after a day of racing and it has only lost about 10 minutes. Does it need winding?
  6. I have found that the Honda S2000 has a switch like you mention. It is shown on the illustration below and is item #11. You may want to follow up on it. I do not know what the thread size is. http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=S2000&catcgry2=2004&catcgry3=2DR+S2000&catcgry4=KA6MT&catcgry5=RADIATOR+%28DENSO%29
  7. Loren, I am ready, made my reservations and have Blue in peak condition and ready to load into the trailer. For anyone going who uses a Garmin GPS OR Microsoft Streets and Trips, I have the route compiled and can email it to you. Just tell me which one you need. Come to think of it, if I get some coaching, I will upload it to this site. Cheers,
  8. Any recommendation as to where to buy the Toyo R888s?
  9. I'm sure that "Green Bean" is going to carry a USA 7s sticker in One Lap of America, right?
  10. HOSTILITY? Did he say HOSTILITY? I must have missed something. All I remember was a great deal of HOSPITALITY! Best Se7ens parties ever are held at Run & Gun.. Thanks to Sue and Jerry. Yep, Jerry IS scary fast even on his street tires which happen to be Falken RT615s. Maybe it isn't just the tires....hmmm. All in good fun.
  11. Gary, I have to chime in and say that the RT 615s on my S2K have been from Houston to San Francisco, all over the Ozarks and up and down the Tail of the Dragon. I have never felt they went away on me. Oh yeah, an afternoon on a blazing hot track in SoCal during USA 2005 as wel and used them as my rain tires for a couple of autocross seasons. Guess I just don't push them hard enough! I run them at about 20 psi or so.
  12. I had the notion to do just what you are wanting to do. Back in 2001 I surveyed the market to buy a new Sevenesque toy. When I found Brian Anderson's Ultralite I knew it was for me. The car is totally streetable (though I never got the weather gear); dependable (and powerful) beyond belief with the Honda S2000 drivetrain and the Subaru WRX LSD based IRS sealed the deal. Virtually every part can be easily sourced locally and my tinkering has yet to knacker it up. I have been touring (USA2005 Houston to San Fran) (Ozark 2006) and racing the car every weekend possible ever since. You might want to ask around and see if you can find a used one to fit your budget.
  13. The LM is without a doubt SWEET!!![/size]
  14. You might want to try this link for MOCAL in the US http://www.batinc.net/mocal.htm
  15. Aero on a Seven is good, in the US, for track days and possibly NASA events. SCCA, the 900# gorilla, ONLY recognizes the Lotus 7 and the Caterham for club (road) racing. You're right, autocrossing is limited to 60ish mph and aero is not very effective and wings are definitely not allowed. HOWEVER.... I would LOOOOVE to have an aero body for my Seven. It would be a killer for trackdays, Run & Gun and runs down to the ice cream store with Barbie!!!(not that I don't get enough questions about my Ultralite as it is) PSSST, it might be nice to have for One Lap of America also!
  16. If you want durable and good pricing, take a look at the Intellidash. I use it in my Ultralite XR7 and I like it. http://www.remarkind.com/intellidash.html
  17. Jack, Received the drawings and thank you. Thanksgiving travel has slowed my response. I agree with all of your comments and sizing. I must say that my research has shown that there is no such thing as too large a tank unless one is concerned with space and weight! That having been said, there is always a practical limit and I am now planning to install the largest tank I can find that will fit. My pump has male AN-12 fittings on all openings so I have simply used AN-12 lines everywhere. Your idea to open the supply line up to an AN-16 has me perplexed. If you have an AN-12 opening in the tank and pump, how will placing a section of AN-16 hose in the middle help you? Re the return line; my pump has the scavenge stages internally linked and bypassed to a single port, eliminating the need for an external manifold, but here again the outlet fitting is an AN-12. I agree with your statement about the vent line and this will be upsized forthwith and routed per your instructions. I still find it hard to believe the flow that the S2000 engine requires. ~23-25 gallons per minute! That means that if you have an eight quart system, the whole thing cycles every 20 seconds! It kind of boggles the mind and leads me to believe that the volume and cooling are critical. (duh) What are you planning to do to introduce the pressure line to the block? I would imagine a sandwich plate would be easiest but have not found one with large passages yet. Using the stock cooler will be a plus. More as it occurs,
  18. Hi Gents, If I can jump in here, I would like to ask a couple of questions. I am dry sumping my S2000 engine as well. I'm not sure that I have selected the right sized tank and would ask what criteria you are using to determine this. Also, how about the size of the pump, # of stages and diameter of the lines. At present I am using AN-12 lines for all scavenge, pressure and vent lines. The pressure regulator bypass is AN-10. I am using a 4 stage Aviaid pump with a 1.5" pressure stage. What would you recommend for the scavenge stage(s) sizing? The tank is a 17.5" tall, 6" diameter (7.5 quart) with AN-12 return inlets and supply outlet. The stock vent holes on top are 3/8" NPT that I have relocated and opened to an AN-12 fitting. Have you been able to test your system on the track? I have an old version of Solidworks so your drawings may not work; could you send a PDF of your tank? Thanks
  19. Uhhh, Birkin is indeed a modern maunufacturer but located in South Africa. Brunton Stalker V6 is "built" in Braedenton, FL. World Class Motorsports sells the Ultralite built in Lancaster, TX. Caterham is built in England as are maaaannny others. Suggested reading is "Lotus Seven & The Independents" by Dennis Ortenburger, published by Coterie Press LTD. A definite source for a complilation of builders past and present; a bargain for those interested @ USA$59.95.
  20. I'll take one also Chuck
  21. I guess my last try to reply didn't make it! I would NEVER want the rear to lockup first! ..... that is, unless I was in a doughnut contest. Always the fronts do the major work and the rears do what they can....no more, no less. Chuck said that...
  22. I run 17 x 8 for the street and 13 x 10 for the track Thank you very much :flag:

    HOT FEET

Try this link for louvered vents http://www.go2marine.com/search.do?q=louvered+vent&x=22&y=14
  24. It doesn't take much. I suggest you go to the manufacturers website. They have a "how to" section telling about the procedure for changing rates. They also sell a kit to do so. I have the kit. Once you have determined the settings that are presently in the shock, let me know and I can get you the correct part to change the rate. Looking at the pics again I am impressed that Kevin managed to save most of the decals. The rear is the easiest to find replacements! Maybe some heat will allow you to work out the wrinkles in the skin.....
