  1. Holy crap! And I thought I was hot stuff when I overhauled my '65 911's engine on my garden level apartment's kitchen table when I was about 21 tears old. I also built a total basket case Triumph Bonneville 650TT motorcycle on that same kitchen table the next winter. With the help of a couple of friends we carried the 911 engine out the door and up the stairs to the garage where I installed it with a floor jack. I fired up the motorcycle and drove it out the door.

    My ADD

I'm looking forward to see that!
  3. I didn't think you were quite that crazy but I had to ask.
  4. Bill, Did you drive it or was that round trip with the car on a trailer coming home? If you drove it for 19 hours you deserve an Iron Butt award.

    My ADD

Way too plain, you guys need this one:
  6. Excellent video, thanks for sharing.
  7. The record last year was Mark Webber's Red Bull at 1.9 seconds. http://www.businessinsider.com/video-f1-driver-mark-webber-set-a-new-record-with-19-second-pit-stop-2013-11
  8. WOW! Can 300 mph be far behind?
  9. The $8K BIN price seems quite reasonable for an 8.5 x 20 aluminum enclosed trailer.
  10. After looking at it again I have to wonder if it is faked. The quadrotor seems totally unaffected by the fully automatic fire recoil.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/embed/SNPJMk2fgJU Wait until the gangbangers get their hands on this one!
  12. I've owned 9 Porsches and I've also tried that beer. The beer was forgettable, the cars were not.
  13. And Executive Superlite owners too.
  14. Just reading this thread has brought my many floaters back into my awareness. I've had them for many years. They will fade into the background after you have lived with them for awhile. A year or so ago I woke up in the middle of the night, took a few steps out of my bedroom into the hallway and was suddenly seeing very bright white flashes like a strobe. I checked outside to see if some emergency vehicle was out there. After awhile I realized it was my eyes doing it and it soon faded a bit to just vertical white bar flashes at the edge of my vision. I got to an eye doctor the next day and she told me it was because the vitreous humor was pulling away from the retina. Nothing to be done about it and I still occasionally see them in the dark. Just another old age thing you learn to live with because the alternative is not very attractive at this time.
  15. The photos were taken by a company photographer. I never saw them as they were for documentation that the casting of the grain was to spec. I was the photographer's safety escort. Other workers had been in there before us installing temperature and pressure sensors and inspecting the joins between segments. We had to remove all metal from our clothes including belt buckles and shoes. We put on anti-static clothing and booties and there was a path of antistatic mats to crawl on. The empty core of the SRB is about a meter in diameter so standing up and walking was not an option.
  16. http://io9.com/5893615/absolutely-mindblowing-video-shot-from-the-space-shuttle-during-launch In the late 70s I worked at Thiokol, the designers and builders of the SRBs. I witnessed two horizontal test firings of the SRB. Several times I crawled into the test SRB prior to the test to take pictures of the grain at the top end where the igniters reside. It was a weird experience to be surrounded by 1,000,000 lb of solid rocket fuel ready to ignite with a single spark.
  17. Alan, With those readings on the toe in I think you need to check the straightness of the deDion tube. I don't think shims are going to be enough to take out 2 5/8" of total toe in.
  18. He already is a member but hasn't made a public announcement yet.
  19. Here's a picture of that engine. Too much plastic to get an idea of size. http://mustangsdaily.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/01-ecoboost-mustang-engine-spy.jpg
  20. I'm on my 4th trailer for my Caterham. The first was an 8 x 18 open all aluminum H&H tilt bed trailer. I towed it with a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT and got around 20 mpg. I got the above mentioned paranoia about having the Caterham exposed overnight in motel parking lots and bought a home built enclosed trailer from an SCCA racer. It was horrible towing, swaying all over the place and very inconvenient to use. I towed it with a 2005 Silverado 1500. The next trailer was an 8 x 16 full height, flat front enclosed trailer by United Trailer. It towed well but I got only 7 mpg at highway speeds. It was also towed with the Silverado. The current trailer is a 7 x 14 Haulmark LoHauler motorcycle trailer. It has a V nose and you cannot stand up straight in it. Gas mileage went up to 11 mpg with the Silverado. I traded in the Silverado on a 2011 Ram 1500 and gas mileage went to 12 mpg and I can exceed the speed limit going over Vail Pass (10,600') and the run up to the Eisenhower tunnel (11,XXX') on the cruise control. Even if I get slowed down by traffic it can recover back to speed. This trailer is perfect for what I haul. The Caterham fits nicely with room behind it for the 10 - 10' canopy and room in the V-nose for tires and tools. I can even get a Miata in it but have lower the top and climb over the doors to get in and out of it. Both pickups have a topper over the bed and anything that doesn't fit in the trailer goes in the bed. It is the best towing trailer I've owned or borrowed. Never sways at all and I don't have the special antisway bars or equalizer hitch. I've towed it to both coasts and up into Canada and many trips over the Rockies. The Ram pickup has the towing package with mirrors that rotate from horizontal to vertical for towing although I prefer to tow with them in the normal position.

  22. Thanks for the pictures. Do you know the specs on the Sigma engine? Weight, displacement, HP and torque? Does it use the T9 transmission or something else?
  23. That's why we named him "Dirt Gert" during the Yellowstone run a few years ago.
  24. How about one of these Radically Invasive Projectiles (R.I.P.) or Multiple Impact Bullets?
