yes,,,but..what kind of story is " we were dry while it rode home on the trailer" ? hey...is there a little icon WithOUT the umbrella? :7rain: we had some good bonding time with the se7en..it became a little bit more a part of us this weekend. it got absolutly filthy too! now we start adding that deep rich patina shine that says my owners love me but use me.

First we want to thank everyone for being so very welcoming,,,your all a great group of people! We were very glad to finally put some faces to the names here. What great camaraderie! Al...especially we appreciate the time and effort you spent we felt like we belonged here. Next..Gary did you make it home ok?? if you went through what we did you had an experience for sure! As we motored on we saw people off into the trees and ditches. At one point we thought we drove into a lake and the car was engulfed in water. The (thirsty) little x-flow never missed a beat, although it was a litte rough with all the water injection. Saturday night we went for a cruise after dining at Chili's and got lost in town while looking for a local brewery. We ended up somewhere downtown and shared a brew on the sidewalk while it started to rain. The rain came down for about 5 hrs but we were camped on higher ground so it wasnt a problem. What was a problem was the miata doing hot laps in the rain around our tent at 2:00 am.. We awoke to some sun, but just long enough to break camp and take a shower...we should have waited and just washed up on the way home! The SAAB tent was now holding the people that couldnt stagger back to there hotels. Carlisle was a great experience, and something we will want to do again... http://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/837216030_100_0175.JPG

Carlisle newbies Questions: Looking at the carlisle website, this place is huge.. and while we expect attendance to be down due to flood warnings just south of carlisle, we are guessing theres going to be allot there yet. How do we find the USA7's contingent when we get there friday night (sat morning?)..We am sure we could drive around till we find everyone, but at 1:00 am is there a certian section that is designated already? Will we be getting a canopy? Is there a possibility of pitching our little tent behind the car? We got the car all buttoned up, waxed and rain-x'd, we have our raingear and are looking forward to making some new stories to tell. carlisle or bust.

some people just are having too much fun...oh wait ....it's not possible to have too much fun!

Gas Mileage, Tell us how your 7 does on the MPG's
southwind25 replied to tnttim's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Great topic!! We plan on doing a MPG calculation this weekend to-from carlisle. We plan on averaging about 75 mph which is about 3700 rpm on the clock. We have a plain jane 1600 with webers we guess maybe getting 100 ponies. right now we suspect we are geting about 25 mpg highway...not too great. usage means ALLOT...on our old vintage racing sprite, we had a 1275 putting out about 110 ponies. at the track she would gobble up the cam 2 at about 10-13 mpg...but 26 cruising mpg on the highway..huge diffrence. i have heard the z-tech engines in a se7en with single injection getting 28 +mpg? maybe better? -
I have Mig'd ,Tig'd, arc'd and rig'ged without disconecting anything.. havnt had a problem yet. yet. :leaving: heres one tidbit though....dont hold metal in place with a magnet while tigging..wow what a light show

Weather report is changing again...DRATS http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/tenday/USPA0234?from=36hr_topnav_business According to the car show website, they have showers (but it looks like all we will need is soap with the rain)..How muddy does the grounds and camping area get? or can we camp by the car? important question:who's bringing the beer? looks like a raincoat weekend. gary you should put your shorty rollbar back in for the event so you have a top..raincoats are fine, but the seats are gonna fill up?:7rain:

What's an original S2 like compared to a Caterham...

carbed VS injection? having had webers and S.U.s and never injection (except my work cars): carbs have a cost advantage upon purchase. however they suck MUCH more petrol so that cost may be lost as you add up the miles.. carbs Are not near as efficent in any way. carbs are "dirty", they spit and hack and make a mess sometimes. Carbs have many more moving parts to wear out...injection has many more remote parts to find a place to mount. starting when cold,,or hot..is a diffrent animal than injection. injection seems like it could be lighter hardware-wise. webers are heavy. S.U.s take up a bunch of space. (anything that looks like an S.U. but isnt. is usually pretty awful. ) you need a computer-software, expensive equipment to tune an injected car. a monkey with a flat butter knife , rock , and old garden hose can tune an S.U.....(i did for 25 odd years) weber carbs are black magic and very finicky...i hear sacrificing blood to the weber gods works best. they are expensive to tune needing a jet for everything. if i could afford injection..i wouldnt even think about carbs, unless it was some vintage thing i wanted to keep vintage.. i would love to have injection on my car...but uhhh...i dont think it would be real savy putting the time-effort-budget into injecting a 1600 x-flow. -
will ask about other 7's from the cleveland lotus club.... otherwise we are glued to the weather channel.:ack: :ack: what to do what to do??...i drove the se7en in the rain friday night, and it was miserable....of course doors would have helped ALLOT.... driving it in the rain isnt really the problem.. its the tent.

Wow this is WAY awesome! I met kevin and Michelle in avon lake ohio at their checkpoint.. What a great couple! I figured they might want to just be left alone because of being tired,,but heck no they were both full of energy and took time out to talk a while with me. The car seemed to be running well and deffinitly stood out from the rest. Kevin and Michelle wanted to thank everyone on here for following their progress and was very thankful to all the well wishes along the way. it was dry while i was at the stop point, however if they headed east they probbly ran into the storm we got a bit later last night. http://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/185938281_100_0087.JPG

Do a leak down test instead of a compression test? And this is way obscure..but how old is the water pump?, meaning i have heard (urban myth?) that on occasion the pump impellor may come loose on the shaft then it sli[ps a bit under higher revs-hydraulic pressure.. especially if it is an aftermarket pump with the sheet metal pressed vanes. Another trick some guys do on engines that live in higher revs, is they have a larger dia pump pully to slow down the pump a bit. i had a 70's MGB some years back...with a constant overheating problem, but it turned out to be the funky MGB radiator.

got the scoop they will be at avon lake between 4:00 and 7:00 today...according to the people hosting the checkpoint. 604 Moore Road Avon Lake, Ohio 44012 which is just west of cleveland. yeah,,we will be going in the se7en and taking a few pics.
-
Trying to find out the correct info..but it looks like they are comming thru cleveland maybe as a checkpoint? today around 12:00??..if i can get the right info we might go see them before we go to the speed racer drive in movie. anyone help with accurate info-location-time for the checkpoint for today/friday?

I was about 7 when dad took us to ocean city VIA skyline drive..in his 2 seater austin healey 3000 MKI...i sat on the tranny hump on a pillow.... not many memories, just some pictures in my head. that was a long time ago...perhaps it might be worth revisiting?

we dont know if we want to cry or get sick... http://www.ohio.com/news/18718134.html his MGA was in the car show we were at last weekend. we couldnt imagine this loss...we had a electrical house fire several years back and lost the second story of our house and a few odd heirlooms and trinkets..but nothing even close to this. :nonod:
-
