Ah, ok thx, I thought wipers, etc were Federal requirements, not State. Guess I'm living in the wrong one :-) (Yes, I did have to retrofit wipers, squirters, lights, etc on a Seven purchase not so long ago) :-(

Just curious, how did you get a tag on a 2006 vehicle that does not appear to have wipers or reverse lights?

Thx Croc; BTW, you're just up the road from my family home town (Newtonmore) :-) That VIN transfer may have passed the DMV, but it still sounds to me like the DMV was told that the '64 was REBUILT into the 2005 using a few of the old bits, (dubious, but frequent), not the full story that the VIN was being transferred from one complete running car to another complete running car (less legal I suspect). Doubtful that 'no longer on the road' makes it less sketchy. Nonetheless, the offense to the '64 is complete and likely irreversible :-(

How "sevenish" does it have to be? The Panoz Roadster from a decade ago is Mustang-size inside.

Assuming you don't need cold weather starting, and your engine isn't high compression, a lawn tractor battery would be more than enough. Worked fine on my supersprint.

Coincidentally, I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night (really! LOL), but this is PURE speculation: It seems that if you avoided any serial numbering or stamping, (assuming you are replacing a chassis like-for-like anyway), that would reduce the chance of alarms ringing?

No disrespect to the seller intended, but he'd be crazy to exchange car for cash and watch it drive away with his tag still on it, as he'd be responsible for anything that happened, including an accident that hurt (or worse) someone!

I heartily concur, pickles. I built and sold 2 complete Caterham's back in the 2000's for less than a rolling chassis costs today. Makes zero sense to me, as (engines aside) virtually nothing has changed in decades. Purely an impression, others will add facts if available, but roughly since Superformance came along, it appears to be a profit grab. Exchange rates were higher years ago, and that affects stock on hand, but why the cost of a new car today hasn't dropped 20% eludes me. I briefly toyed with the idea of a direct import, knowing full well there'd be (justifiably) no support from the locals, but my guess is CaterhamUK wouldn't talk to anyone with a USA shipping address.

As an aside, when the 160 was announced (and given the history between Caterham and Ford), I was quite surprised they didn't use the 1.0 Turbo in the current Fiesta.

Thx, wasn't aware the Sigma was considered local. Curious about the 40k turnkey, as Caterham seems to publish 40k plus engine plus tranny plus windshield. (That green one from Marshall&Goldman that frequents ebay had my attention until they told me it was titled as a "1957 Caterham". I've had my fill of going to the DMV with fingers crossed for one lifetime) :-)

Thx, looking at pre '92 Caterhams, so I'd risk ro/ro. I'm 10 miles from 3rd busiest port on the east coast so I'm hoping that will keep prices reasonable.

I haven't brought a car over since 2002. Anyone done a port-to-port or driveway-to-driveway recently, and willing to share what they spent? And who they used, and were they a good choice? Thanks
