  1. A couple of potential spots. 1, where the fuel level sender is bolted to the tank. There should be a Gasket between the sender mounting plinth and the tank top. 2, Perhaps a two clamp splice of rubber pipe between the fill aperture and the solid pipe to the top of the tank. 2 potential leaks there. 3, any vapor recovery system/vent from the fuel tank . m
  2. If you have a Birkin, it may be the vapor catch tank for gas fumes. It is located behind the passenger seat back and is a small aluminum cylinder and a bunch of coiled tubing. If the catch can gets full or there's a lot of vapor coming out of the gas tank, you get the heavy scent of fuel in the garage. You'll probably have to seal the house off from the garage . The good thing about this experience is that it just as easily could be CO leaking into the house. m m
  3. Those 12v plug heaters are a joke. You're miles ahead with heated clothing. if you stick a set of R compound tyres on the car for winter, you'll be way too busy to care or notice the lack of heat in the cockpit :jester: m
  4. Toyo RA1 (rare), 888 Nitto NT 01, NT 05 Kumho V700 Victoracer...(Rare) Are all super sticky Road/endurance spec R comps that have a good size selection. I got 22k miles :leaving: out of a set of V700s...street and track On a Birkin with a Quaife diff. m
  5. Perhaps it is prophetic in a way. It is THE marketing trend anyway. I think if Lotus still was producing the 7 in addition to the Elise, the Elise with more(relatively) creature comforts would kill off the 7 like the plusher CRV has killed off the coarser Element. Or maybe a premise as to why lotus would like to stop making the type 111 in their current format, and start producing those plush Cannibalistic models that they are now previewing. m
  6. In the midwest, Ethanol is subsidized and heavily pushed by the state Govts. You simply have no choice, as you cannot trust the franchises not to dope the fuel anyway. E15 89 octane mixed in with so called Non E 91 octane at 91 octane prices equals more profits. I let my M3(metal tank) sit for a couple of years while rebuilding the engine. The ethanol (which I avoid) stripped the tank walls, killed the pumps and killed the replacements ($1000). The Birkin(Zetec) has been OK. m
  7. I need to rebuild the Zetec and reconfigure the crankcase vent to accommodate a BMW M3 separator. A new crank position sensor and a cam position sensor. Some new full tread Rcomps NT01s or RA1s. Won't begin until spring though. m
  8. Mr D Long and Mr T Bruch built a dimensionally accurate 7 with a 2.0 Porsche Flat 6. This was campaigned in the SCCA Solo2 D MOD program in the early 80s. It ejected a piston and then grew a V8. 'Twas a monster. The point being that a 7 could swallow a flat six and still resemble a 7 w/o infringement. m
  9. Thank the Heavens for Police Training Academies. Trained Marksmen; They missed the donut shop. m
  10. Beautiful country. Nice machines. Was the petrol container empty and vented?:willy_nilly: Thanks for the pics. They're like light at the end of the tunnel for us winter bound rats. They remind me that I do have a 7 somewhere in the garage :svengo: m
  11. Excellent narrative. Thanks for sharing. m
  12. Eh?! It is Trying to snow in NE Iowa :seeya:  m
  13. I picked up the dec 10 issue on the 7th at a B&N in Iowa. It has a white(ish) cover with the arse end of the silver Jaaaag! hybrid supercar. Nice article on their(John Barker's) favourite 7s. Another sorta relevant article: Atom V8 Vs. Gayyardo superleggera :leaving: m
  14. I believe that the ZX3 was rated at 140 hp stock compared to 125 hp ZX1 stock. You should not need to upgrade if you're not going to chase more power. I would use a new clutch release bearing and disc though. m
  15. I hit the flasher switch, it beeps, I turn into the corner . Next I nail down the apex and punch the throttle... The rear steps out a little and I catch it with some opposite lock as I stay on the gas. I remember the flasher and hear the beeping 5 minutes later after the rush subsides. :driving:. I think that adapting the motorcycle style self canceling units that are available on the after market would work for you (and me). m
  16. I see a Dolphin and a manatee. I pretty sure if I had just been on a hoon in the 7, I'd see three dolphins. m
  17. It just got a titch warmer in there. Apparently he and a couple of other drivers were in a novice session. Someone's called him out as a king..... . . . . in the land of the Blind. (which is what I suspected anyway from his poor driving) m
  18. After my rebuild this winter, I'll be modding an S14 air/oil separator for use with the Zetec. I'll be drilling a hole in the sump for the fluid drain back fitting.. m
  19. My Birkin has good wipers. 2 speed Wipers on the bonnet side, towel on the cockpit side. m
  20. Once you own one and acclimatize to the response of a 7, most else is lard. I was instructing a Carrera 4 owner at a Porsche event on a kart track. I had trouble getting him to brake and turn where I thought he should, but from the passenger seat, the chassis was inert and heavy. I realized that I was using reference points for the 7 after the second corner. Once I had the timing of his car down He kept on saying, "It's a quick car isn't it?" and I would just nod. He was pretty gobsmacked after 3 laps in the 7. m
  21. I saw that yesterday. I'm on those forums and the thread is kind of quiet. In my opinion, that is the absolute worst case of ham fisted driving I have ever seen from a Caterham punter. R500(my dream ) with a Quaife dog box and the guy just bashes it into a lower gear with no rev matching and with the car traveling too fast to be dropped into the next lower gear. He seemed to be aware that it was wet in spots but did not seem to adjust his driving for the conditions. As the vid went on, he got increasingly brutal, missing the apexes and braking points, driving in the grass. Incredible. :willy_nilly: I would not go near that guy. m
  22. That would be ok, as long as we knew that your chassis was not titled as a 1962 Lotus 7 m
  23. Probably spray on bed liner, Rhino, or something out of the Eastwood catalog. I'm planning on using some of this stuff on the nose cone a la Caterham and some on the rear wings. m
  24. Nice. I have a question though. How come the side drafts(draughts) have their stacks protruding beyond the body/hood line in one picture but not in the first? m
  25. Interesting. You made me realize that OBD2 BMW M3 gen 2 models have what is called a cyclone separator. It is a triangular shaped air/oil separator. It is cheaper than the scooby part but needs just a little modification to work on a different engine. I have one laying around but I don't know if it is in working condition. m
