  1. Terrific advice from everyone We are dialing back the discretionary and will also focus on chipping at the perceived "non-discretionary". I do save 12% off the top of gross...but find I often sell some of those investments to pay large visa bills. Hence the need to refocus.
  2. I want to retire some day. Its time to get this under control.
  3. I had some spare time and sat down and analyzed my households total financial out-flows. OMG - our run rate on "non-discretionary" is about $4-5K a month and "discretionary" is running close to $3K. Turns out that's after disciplined forced savings, we are only just breaking even. WAKE UP CALL! Any wise words on personal approaches to budget management that works for you. The funny thing is that we don't drink or go out much....its just death by a thousand little things.
  4. I checked the timing quickly tonight. USed the pulley mark for TDC. Will have to double check that reading. The timing seems really high....close to 15+ degrees at idle. What kinds of symptoms come from excessive advance?
  5. Nice choice! I think the average market value of an Aston Martin convertible just went up!

Thats Caldwell Park I think. Bloody hell that has some mighty elevation changes. Great video
  7. OK, Well for this season, I will set it at 14 degrees (myself or ask my mechanic to do so). If it works OK, then over the winter I will send the Dizzy out to be optimized for next season
  8. I'm trying to determine if I already have an electronic ignition system Does anyone have a similar set up to mine? There is an aluminium Lucas branded box mounted to the firewall. I'd like to get my ignition properly set and tuned for the best advance curve, but before I do that I'm wondering if I should be purchasing an improved ignition system. I'm getting a fair bit of misfire and popping on part throttle.
  9. My apologies John. It was a Monday brain-fart!
  10. Locost7018 Can you walk me thru the major steps of the install process?
  11. It could be that he is too wide of girth to fit in my car or the fact that I took his wife out in it and she returned all short of breath and smiling.....but a good friend of mine keeps coming up with new "terms" for my Caterham. A man can only take so much abuse before he snaps!
  12. That pictire makes for an interesting study in the differences between the Caterham and the Birkin
  13. I agree! Went for a short blat yesterday and when I pulled into the driveway, the sun broke out. Threw it in reverse and headed out again.
  14. Hi guys, My weber carb'd Crossflow does not appear to have a fuel filter. A couple of questions around filtment The fuel pump is attached to the block. I want to place the filter somewhere in the engine bay. Do I place the filter between the tank and the pump or between the pump and the carbs? The fuel line to the pump on the block appears to be a hard black plastic tube (1/4 inch thick) that connects to a very short 1/2 inch rubber pipe into the fuel pump. I'm thinking the best route may be to make a longer section of the rubber fuel pipe leading into the fuel pump and place the filter within that section. I have heard that Webers have specific fuel pressure needs. This makes me think that a fuel filter/regulator combo may be a good idea. However, I suspect that would have to be placed between the pump and the carbs and there is no space to do that. Thoughts?
  15. Perhaps we will see an expansion of the North American foot print. I would love to see a larger Canadian profile
  16. here is a pic of what your car will look like with the wheels
  17. The fleamarket was good. Lots of vendors at a big indoor hall. Bought some small stuff and some Lotus books including a great little history book on the development and results of the Lotus 49. It was written in 1970 by David Hobbs. Those drivers were brave!
  18. The accident reconstruction seems to put some of the blame questions to rest

  20. makes me wish i didn't have a live axle.
  21. So I headed out to the start of season british parts fleamarket in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada yesterday. Rain, snow, a little bit of sun and then.... hail blowing sideways so hard, it pushed thru the side screens and into the cockpit. Oh well. The funny thing is that the Seven has a remarkably comfortable little cabin with the roof up, the doors on and with the heater going. I'm sure I made a funny site driving thru the snow storm
  22. Another plus with a RHD is the exhaust is not on the driver side. It also adds to the uniqueness
  23. I struggle with the same question as I need new rubber as well. I think I'm going to go with Toyo RA1 tires as feedback from this group is that they have a softer sidewall than the R888. I'm going to try 205/60/13 rear and 185/60/13 front. I've been running a 185/70 series tire and if I go with 185/60 at the rear, its going to change the rotation/revs ratio quite a bit. This is an outfit in Mississauga that I have used that brings tires up from the states. I think they will do it for 800-900 taxes and instillation included. Whats the price on the Sumitomos? What is the aspect ratio? PS. Your car looks fantastic!. How about pic from under the hood?
  24. I agree, what a drag. Unless it is really pouring, I intend to do a bit of "stiff-upper-lip" driving with the roof up.
