Anyone going to the Watkins Glen Vintage Fest Sept 6-8?
twobone replied to twobone's topic in General Sevens Discussion
My co-driver cancelled on me. I'm heading down Friday and returning Saturday night. If anyone is heading down to the event and wants to meet up and needs a place to stay or wants to come over for a post event beer, I'm staying at a friends big country place in Canandaigua. Here are photos from last year: Drop me a PM Mike -
in the end, my current boss got me a nice retention bonus to stay (requires 2 year commitment) so it all ended out as a win-win. I keep my current at home job, with great job security, some more cash in the bank and I get to keep my work life balance. Today was my son's 12th birthday and I was home to enjoy it with him. Its all good! Thanks for all the wise counsel

welcome Oscar. I hope you enjoy some great driving. Sounds like you are do for a break! Is that a 916 Ducati?

I recently went to a richer air jet in my Webers. I think my old one was 200 and the new one is 180. I believe the smaller number means less air passes thru. My car sometimes stumbles off idle (for example taking off at a stop light...very embarrassing). She is also tougher to start when hot. Does this sound like enough to cause the problem? I didn't think that the main jet assembly had a major role to play in off-idle or starting I will switch back when I get a chance, just curious folks thoughts I have a long road trip (Ontario to Watkins Glen) and don't want to discover I have a bigger issue Thanks

I love it! Thanks for posting

My retirement is based on the best 5 years of my final 10, so it will help. I talked to my wife. She is open to lots of ideas. However, right now I have a really good gig: I like my current job, home by 6, spending time with the kids, great work/life balance, everybody is happy. I'm also a risk averse guy. I guess we will wait to see what the offer is. Its going to take a lot to push me out of my comfort zone. Thanks for the words of wisdom guys

I was just asked to travel 1-2 weeks a month as part of work for a year or two. I have not seen the financial offer associated with it, but they really need me and I think they will sweeten the deal. I have a unique understanding of some govt regs that they need me to apply in another jurisdiction. I have two young boys (6 and 11) and my wife works part time. For those who have been in my place in the past.....what kind of impact did it have on your family life and marriage. Looking back, do you have any advice, any regrets? The plus for me is that I'm about 8 years from early retirement. If I can negotiate a big income jump as part of this, it will help increase my long term pension (which is based on my average salary in the last 5 years of working). So do I accept short term pain for long term financial gain....or could I look back on this as a bad trade off by missing part of the best years with my kids? Soul searching....

Not unlike a Brunton V8, I suspect. Got to love that sound!

Welcome! I'm down in Port Credit with an 89' S3 live axle. The lotusclubcanada group have a great spring and fall run. Hope to meet up soon once you are on the road

rX7locost - so sorry to hear about your experience. It raises an interesting question. Maybe I spend too much time on the internet, but it seems like a statistically high number of rebuilt motors go "pop" shortly after the rebuild. Makes me wonder what are the top root cause? Mixing old and new parts? Builder error? Engines are a complex symphony of moving parts under extreme stress.

Hey Stig, talk about crossflow. Look at how horizontal his headers are. The flow on those must be increadible

You Drive Your 7 In Big City Traffic?
twobone replied to nicholastanguma's topic in General Sevens Discussion
The key for me is to drive a little bit faster then most folks. You have to stay out of folks blind spots. Its easy to dice thru traffic in the seven. You can guarantee that those lade SUV drivers have no idea you exist, so you are better to scoot past them as quickly as possible. It takes me about 35 minutes of busy commuter roads before I get to the country roads. -
How hot does it have to be under the hood to get vapor lock? What does vapor lock mean? Does it create an air bubble in the gas lines or cause something to go wrong in the carbs themselves? I did notice that the engine was running very hot, which was weird given the reasonable ambient temperature and the fact that I was not running all that hard.
-
My engine is running a bit hot today (have to check out that problem). Anyways, I pulled into the gas station and filled up the tank. Then the car would not start. It turned over fine, bit would not run. Eventually it did start back up. Does opening the filler cap when the gas tank is low create a reverse back flow in the gas lines based on a drop in vacuum? I'm trying to figure out why I would have had a "no gas" problem with the motor. Would love to hear folks thoughts. Perhaps going forward I need to keep more gas in the tank. Thanks

Amazing car for that price. I bet it will be sold in a blink.

I'm not an expert, but here are some problems I've had: -Could you have a bad coil? Perhaps your coil over heated or is not in good condition. -check for a loose coil wire

True. Some day an svt zetec swap will happen I do intend to get a nice white or red 84-88 911 cabriolet as a run-about for the wife some day. Like an old ex girl friend I can't get Porsche out of my head
-
I totally agree. I had a 911 and loved it in so many ways. My kent powered 7 is just on another level of driver involvement and at much more rationale speeds. I can't imaging 260 HP in a seven. That would make things happen much to fast for me
-
I don't think of a seven in the same context. My hatred is pointed towards the endless fleets of silver audi A4, silver porsches, silver mercedes, silver sedans and minivans. It just feels like a follow the leader mentality...maximize your resale value, fit in, conform, etc. I wanted a green pathfinder, my wife veto'd me into a silver one and I've regretted it ever since
-
funny. My wife said she saw an older porsche the other day in a terrible bright green. I got all excited....owwww...sounds like viper green...so cool on a Porsche! PS - I HATE SILVER CARS
