  1. Why does it take 3 people to push a Caterham? When its Tom's... Here is Paige supervising Vlad - good job she did since as she was quicker lapping the circuit than he was "Darling, now is not the time to tell me you did not renew my life insurance" "Vroom vroom noises" Blake, I would place the order for the bulk HP engine upgrades right now so you can be faster than Seb and Simon next year.
  2. Photo time. Mike came up with some sensational photos from when he came along the day we were on Thunderbolt circuit. A smattering of them presented here: First it was driving briefing time - all those attentive faces Led by Pete Tremper, Chief Instructor of the Porker Club of America Then it was set up in the pits. We were able to cluster in the big pit barn building at Thunderbolt this year. Here is Paul "Let me remap my car in the 5 minutes before I go out on track" Went about as well as expected

  4. Following on from here http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?12153-Caterham-at-Brands-Hatch&highlight=Donington The latest installment in my quest to drive the great tracks of UK and Europe. This time was the Brands Hatch GP circuit. Last October I had tried the shorter Brands Hatch Indy circuit on a track day and thought it was promising. That was nothing - the GP circuit is sensational fun. Unfortunately, some dickhead developer created a whole village of idiots next to the Brands Circuit. As a result, use of the GP circuit is quite limited and heavily noise restricted - 95db for my day. But when you get the opportunity you take it. The full GP circuit is the same as the one followed by F1 before it ceased using Brands Hatch and migrated to Silverstone for safety reasons. The track map and video just do not convey how much elevation change happens on this circuit. The video flattens things out tremendously. It also does not convey the bumpiness of the circuit. I was destroyed by the end of the day - lots of bruising next day. However, I don't care - it is epic! Its old school style of track. It forces you to think. It requires a big brassy set hanging between the legs. It requires bravery. It challenges better than nearly everything except Spa, Mt Panorama, or Nurburgring. Definitely high on the must try ticket. This is probably the worst track for the Mazda 5 speed gearbox that comes with the current version of the Caterhams. Its a 3-4 gear track only. Only use 1-2 entering or leaving pits. No need for 5th gear. IF there was ever a case for a 6th gear box, it comes on this track. So here is the track video. Makes it look slow. So consider the elevation meter. Look at how my hands work the wheel. See how much I physically move around in the car from the bumps. September sees me at Angelsey. October sees me hopefully back at Donington and for my first time at Cadwell Park. Who wants to join me?
  5. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=15640&stc=1 Nothing wrong with RHD for those drivers who are competent and skilled. I switch back and forth regularly with my cars. Really quick on clockwise circuits
  6. Sorry no but I have a hefty friend I could lend!
  7. If you open up the pedal box cover you will see the pedals are on a long rod. I was able to take the pedals off and move the spacers around to get the relative side by side alignment of the pedals better for heel and toe. I seem to recall the pedals were only secured by a cotter pin. That said I also bent a pedal once to get it better aligned - two pieces of pipe and bent it around a light pole with a hefty friend helping.

  9. Yes that would be right. My silver CSR had those symptoms for the first two times on track then I put a proper catch tank in. Even if you plan to fix the problem with oil weight then I would still have a catch tank to catch what (ultimately) little is blown. While its not a zetec but it will provide a point of comparison - my 2.3L Duratec runs Castrol semi-synth 5W50 as recommended by Cosworth. On track I can blow out up to 1/4-1/3 quart a session....which I top up...and by the end of the day have effectively done a partial engine oil change. In my former maroon zetec which was a fairly standard spec build, I was running 10W40 both for road and track.
  10. Feeling insecure and lacking confidence are we? Do you resemble that remark? Yes I know. My authentic replica pony is outclassed by those that have completely different blocks, larger displacement and other mod cons in their vintage racer. And I won'g go too far into how I blow seals on live rear axles whereas the modern pony car vintage racer just keeps the oil inside as Yellowss7 will just collapse in giggles at the sexual innuendo. Karl (previous owner) had me fooled the first time I saw it. He insisted it would be safe because he did not use much steering input.
  11. You're a threat all right - to my paint job - from all the debris you throw up to slow down those behind you. :jester: Lurking in the weeds indeed....
  12. But big hood scoops are just so crass. They are for the weak. They tell the world the driver is inadequate, needing bulk hp to compensate for their obvious lack of endowed talent. :leaving:
  13. I've done 475 miles in 2 days on Spa-Francorchamps! None of this ranks compared with JLumba81 on this forum who drove his just-bought (from me) yellow Caterham zetec and drove out of my garage on the Hudson River, half a mile from lower Manhattan and proceeded to drive home 4000 miles to Juneau, Alaska in 6 days in April. That was a beast of a drive. Post #35 on this thread http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?5785-2004-Caterham-SV-for-sale-in-NJ/page4&highlight=Alaska
  14. I am distinctly underwhelmed...Seb/Simon? Revenge of the Turds? :bs: I just need to put my 13 inch wheels with slicks back on and that gives me +20mph top speed by improving the gear ratios via tire diameter and so better acceleration out of corners plus better handling plus I drop the passenger rides. End result is John becomes my track chew toy. :seeya: But maybe I need to shoot for the moon with a super-secret skunkworks project? Quoting Seb: "More to come on this over the next few months." Nothing English or French is allowed to be faster than me!
  15. Paul - Just checked again. The driver side was a B2 - it was the largest Tillet at the time for Karl and his wide hips and even then the seat bears the scars of some surgery with an angle grinder. Caterham sold it as the CSR seat - different to the regular SV for some reason The passenger seat was the Caterham branded but Tillet-made seat that approximates the B6. It differs slightly as the styling/design has changed a bit over the years. There are now different sized B6s - was not always that way. The full catalog is here, including dimensions: https://www.tillett.co.uk/car-racing-seat.asp
  16. Driver side was a Tillet B2 from recollection. It was the one that was option fitment in the CSR. It should be the seat that Karl modifier with an angle grinder to accommodate his trochanters (I think that’s the anatomy he was dealing with?). Let me find a photo of passenger side to look at - I suspect it is a B6.
  17. I had three of them (1 x S1 and 2 x S2) tell me they were intending to come along Sunday if not raining but never heard a peep again after the phone calls and emails. Is Norm's an S3? Or just an early Caterham?
  18. Apologies for the impolite language on a public forum but it was one of those mornings and thats where my cynical humor gets dangerous.... Hopefully we will see you and your wife at NJMP next year if all our devious plans pan out the way we hope they do.
  19. Hi Ed, it was great to meet you Saturday and allow you the chance to inspect the various cars and solutions to technical problems you are probably only just starting to think about. Hopefully, the session out on track with me gives you a taster for what our wonderful little cars can do. We look forward to having you join us driving when your build is complete. Hopefully you had a chance to connect with Graham during the day (FastG on the forum) as his build is using the same chassis that you are planning to use. Cheers mike
  20. Given Tom cut loose a little on the last session in the orange beastie, I suspect she was at least 10 seconds a lap quicker than you. I figure if nothing else, that little bit of "oneupmanship" allows you some space to upgrade the car. Maybe she would like to drive it on track one day? Does that help? :jester: The double up happens when you upload the image to the forum - it then appears as an attachment and as an inline photo with the text. I don't upload. I use a free photo hosting site, Imgur, or if posting from my phone, Tapatalk. These keep the photos on their servers and not the USA7s server.
  21. Since I have an hour or so before I have to leave for the airport, allow me.... :jester: Dan deserves an honorable mention for superior grass cutting abilities in a Westfield. He clearly learned at the knee of Shane. Vovchandr was the mechanical failure of Sunday, really unlucky as he was doing quite well up until then, either a clutch throwout or release bearing. Either way it is engine out and I have a new temporary resident in my garage. I think we all had a great time on Thunderbolt circuit. I prefer it personally as it is more challenging than the Lightning Circuit. I do want to thank every one who attended and joined in the fun. It can only be a successful event when you have a great group of people and the members of the sevens community who attend make it that. Mike our track photographer took some great group photos and a few solo photos yesterday. Give him a few weeks to sort them out and I will distribute the high quality versions by AWS link to those who participated plus add some here for the broader forum members to enjoy.
