  1. Nothing wrong with a bit of patina! I cannot criticize much - I would not have the skills to even produce a car like that.
  2. There is always the suicide option - rear wing mounted to marine plywood and front clamshells? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/NJMP%2006252012/DSC00432.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/NJMP%2006252012/20120625_SCDA_NJM_IN1_1571.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/NJMP%2006252012/DSC00432_edited-1.jpg Ask MichaelD on here what he thought of it?
  3. I inspected this building last year when I was daydreaming about getting a new place instead of more sensibly renovating my current condo: http://200eleventh.com/ Putting aside the (major) problem that a 2200sqft 2 bedroom condo was going to cost $7 million :ack::svengo: Somehow I kept my composure with the broker when he said that! And here was me thinking it would be a normal Manhattan 2 bedroom condo price of about $1.5 million (that I still could not afford)! Sadly, my real problem with the condo was that it only had a 1 car garage. I would need at least 2 spaces for the seven and plus my daily driver
  4. My Caterham is fairly soft - better than my road car. Plus the video demonstrated an old trick from my former Aussie Outback days - it gets smoother the faster you go on rough roads. I thought the Westfield (or was it a Birkin?) handled things quite well on the video.
  5. Hmmm...I am trying to work out if you were really bad in a previous life or the Caterham was early parole after serving a lengthy prison sentence? :nopity:
  6. Shhhh!!! I just had brandied christmas pudding and custard. I think of it as a form of corner weighting...:jester:
  7. To make your car lighter for track days you can always wrap it in carbon fiber: http://www.getcarbonfiber.com/ Solves your gravel rash issues too!
  8. Hi John Welcome to USA7s. Good to see someone else understands how much fun you can have on track with a seven! For what it is worth here are my ideas: 1) Seats - I guess you have the standard cloth/leather bucket seat so if you want a pure track car then try the Tillet shell: http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=123 You may be able to get these cheaper from Tillet directly. If you want to still use it on street and retain some comfort but still have more support then try the GT seat: http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=4815 Your harness should already fit these seats. 2) Instead of a fuel cell I first would go for a upgraded roll bar (FIA or track day bar) or even consider a cage. There have been a couple of recent threads on cages on here that you can find. My rationale for this is that you are more likely to bash your head before you burn. 3) Go to 13" wheels. The convention on every track user on blatchat is for 13's with a thick sidewall. There are hoosier slicks out there which will fit a 13 inch rim - Yellowss7 uses them. Alternatively stick with a road tire. It does change the liveliness of the car for the better - the race car I borrow in the UK has 13' rims with 60 profile Avon CR500s and it feels great. Be wary of lowering the rim size and profile as then you be redlined and run out of gears on a long straight. 4) Are you getting fade on your brakes? If not then I would stay with what you have. The advantage is they come up to temp quicker than race pads. For 5) to 6) I defer to someone else more experienced on here. 6) What about a vinyl wrap for your car. Covers up the gravel rash and makes her look nice and new and provides protection from further damage. When you want a change because it looks tatty you can easily change. Now that I have stuck my neck out, others should start to chime in shortly.
  9. Busa - you get classed with the Caterhams, Birkins, and S1's in "scum of the earth" category at the back of the group car photo. In case you think this is a problem, you would be wrong, as the most stylish, down to earth, biggest bundle of laughs, studly specimens are in this category, like me At LOG 30 in Gettysburg, despite our rarefied position 50 miles away from the camera, our little group of seven rejects (Caterhams, S1s, and Birkins) was graced with the presence of a tall leggy blonde very fast driving Lotus owner who insisted on checking out our cars as she felt the front row of original-brand Lotus sevens was...you know....a little short in leg, very undersized for her appetite. You would never believe the energy possible from a bunch of middle aged farts (e.g. Kitcat, Yellowss7, etc.), all desperately aiming to get their cars to try on her well...err....shaped spray-on jeans. Needless to say, size does matter and she much preferred my Caterham SV over the very small Caterham S3 and Birkins. As the inaugural winner of the "Snail Trails in Velour" Award at LOG 30, I feel confident saying that a Westfield would do exceptionally well in this contest and a turbo busa engine would tip her over the edge. I for one would be admiring the view of your car as she is bent over its engine bay admiring the quality of your engineering. :conehead: Even Tony V, our LOG 33 organizer :willy_nilly: was in the same category with his Caterham Sevens at my last LOG (30). So the group is a 'broad church' that accepts the good (me!), the bad (Boxologist) and the ugly (cough...Blubari....cough cough). If you feel uncomfortable bringing your car and making all those original sevens ashamed with their inadequacies then bring your regular car and just join in the festivities. I for one would make sure you join our USA7s Saturday night dinner table where we make our own fun!
  10. You know, I was going quite well reading this list, visualizing the various cars, suitably impressed by the eclectic nature of the members of this forum and the good taste (or lack of) in cars and then I hit it.... ....what the hell was a Tomberlin NEV? Luckily I dont feel ashamed to not recognize a glorified golf buggy
  11. This is an entertaining basis for a post! 1971 VW Beetle 1600 (the fast one!) in seasick green - learned to drive on this. Has been in the family since brand new and is still trucking along on original engine and gearbox 300,000 miles - drove it yesterday. 1973 Mazda RX3 rotary Some mongrel of a Formula Vee that I started racing in. An even bigger mongrel of a 1967 Formula Ford that followed the Formula Vee. 1979 Holden Commodore sedan - 1.9L 4cyl - slugs are quicker. 1983 Ford Falcon 5.8L V8 Cleveland. Managed to clock the speedo in this one at 230km/h in the Aussie Outback and promptly lost my license a minute later and discovered it takes a few miles to stop at that speed. Epic car and engine! Looks like this - not the same car:http://www.roadrunner.the-best-hosting.org/pics/1983_XE_Falcon.jpg 1965 Lotus Seven S2 with 1189 BMC engine. Dad nicknamed this Elvis as it was always having hits. I vintage raced this car and sometimes used it on the street. It died in the hands of the next owner around 1998 when a Ford Galaxie decided to use it for brakes on track. 1983 Datsun Pulsar hatchback - taught me why I should not speed - I was restricted to 1.6L 4 cyl in my post-ticket recovery period. here is an old photo: http://datsun1000.com/Images/Models/Large/F8.jpg 1990 Nissan Pulsar Q - ballistically quick little road car. Had a 2.2L 4 cyl in a very light "flexible" body with a trick viscous diff to put the power down. Here she was: http://www.pbcars.com.au/cars/uploads/Products/product_228/1-674.jpg 1982 Holden Commodore V8 'Group C' race car. Still a shell in the family garage - to be restored Not the same car but looks like this:http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8028/7446141556_bdab627fdf_z.jpg 1977 Holden Torana V8 'Group C' race car - still in storage to be restored. Looks like this - not the same car http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7098/7187396572_742069eb35_z.jpg 1987 Holden Commodore V8 'Group A' touring car - needs a new engine and refresh but still runs. Still in the garage and is brilliant for clearing the sinus on a track day. Looks like this : http://125.7.120.148/QWA9JB4Y0DXF0B0A/A110DE7MDD8U4ET0/owl3d3kn5rnynn6u/jpg/590x410/vehicle/1985-Holden-Group-A-Commodore.jpg 1992 Nissan Pulsar SSS - even more ballistically quick road and rally car that one day I managed to unintentionally out run a police pursuit down some twisties. He only caught me and I only realized he was chasing me when I reached the 35mph speed zone at the end of the twisty road and I decided to obey the limit. Oops. Looks like this- mine was red: http://imgc.classistatic.com/cps/blnc/121116/615r1/1926jfc_20.jpeg 1997 Subaru Outback wagon - what else does an Aussie drive for his first car in the US especially when your ex-next door neighbor was spruiking them on TV. 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.9L V8. What an engine! Brilliant traction in snow and ice. Handled like a bag of potatoes 2004 Caterham Seven SV SVT Zetec 2010 Audi A4 sedan - reminds me of an upmarket Toyota Camry. 2010 Caterham Seven CSR 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback FIA 289 race car also registered for road
  12. Hi Greg - Great first post! I just sent you a PM on an idea that just may work for you.
  13. Yes - they fit to the side panels and tunnel
  14. What a top chap you are! Your daughter will eventually forgive you...

Like most things in Bonaire - they don't work! :jester:
  17. Hi Terry - Sadly Mackie Movers were the most expensive by a margin of $3000. Other carriers are proving much cheaper. I did mention you had referred me which unfortunately did not translate into a discount.

Bruce - why does your mini cooper jump out of second when accelerating at full throttle? I did not understand that yesterday?
  19. Terry - I understand the concern and probably puzzlement that you have on why people have not jumped aboard. My situation is I am keen to attend but I have to wait until January when the company meeting committments are finalized for the remainder of 2013 - they have priority in my life whether I like it or not or even if I changed jobs. I feel fairly confident saying that some similarly employed others are probably doing the same thinking. I have not lost sight of your April 2013 deadline - 4.5 months away. The other factor giving me pause is cost of shipping. All the quotes I am getting are higher than what the L7C are being quoted to ship from the UK. BTW - I see the internet connection is good on the beach in Goa?

Now that is an offer I cannot refuse! An hour to Milford NJ. Where are the keys Bruce? I would be quite happy with just a Sunday drive of the Jag coupe and Mini Cooper. Definitely I commit to giving them back to you.:cooldude:
  21. Seven drivers are always very fast!:driving: I know how it got out - you emailed me and 3 others on this forum! We are on your LOONY email list! And good thing we are too! :bigear: Thank you for also clarifying the track day situation - I had no idea the booking situation was so congested at Watkins Glen. In your official public notice you may want to clarify PCA eligibility upfront to prevent disappointments later.
  22. make sure that you never park an orange pearl car over gray carpet in the future - it really just does not look good! Would you like any other helpful suggestions? :jester::seeya:
  23. Well it is good that Tony V is picking up organization LOG 33 - I feel confident he can organize a pretty good piss up in a brewery. However, the choice of PCA to run a Lotus track day is a little bewildering since PCA banned Lotus 6, 7, Caterham, Westfield, et al. I just bet they would throw up all over some of the classic Lotus open wheel race cars too :bs:
