OMG!!! :ack: you're a hairdresser that drives a Miata! :puke: oh....was I supposed to look at the tubular thingy next to it? .... Ok....I have to ask. What is it? Tell us the gory details.

Tom summed it up fine. 20 cars at Lightning is fine. Any more and it starts being uncomfortable. Commercial track day operators run 27-30 cars per session on Lightning. PCA turns into accident city with 40+ cars out there. All drivers who have signed up so far have plenty of experience to be suitable for a passing group. So we all should be ready for point bys to keep the traffic moving. I am not expecting track trains and are expecting that everyone will be considerate of the rest of our seven groups. The Lightning circuit would be a little lonely with only 7 cars on it!

Well...after a bit of a chat with Roger Krause (what a great guy!), I settled on Avon ZZR. Fronts are 185/55/13. Rears are 215/55/13. Wheels arrived today in a pile of foam peanuts - it was like Christmas!

I talked with Tom yesterday. He said there are 18 firm signed up and all have good past track experience. There are a few people missing from that list that we expect to sign up as runners but have not done so yet. I dont think it includes "Cab Sav" my spare car. My personal preference is that we cap at around 20 cars to preserve a quality run session without overcrowding things.

Welcome aboard Mike! I am looking forward to meeting you in person. As for the anniversary, you may want to consider what Steve (Bball) is planning. His wife wanted to go to Tuscany so he is going but also is doing track days with BaT and a rental Caterham at Monza and Mugello while there. I consider that a very inventive solution. Not cheap but very very clever. Not sure she knows yet...

Replacing some 16 inch HPC wagon wheels on a 2003 de dion Caterham with some 13 inch wheels (6x13 front and 8x13 rear). Use of car will be touring and some odd track days. What is recommended for an appropriate tire from this esteemed group of Seven experts? Sizing suggestions are welcomed based on what others are using. I could use CR500 but ringing around yesterday was showing out of stock on the 8 inch rear option. Thanks in advance.

My current project car (2003 SV de dion) has this problem and it definitely should not if set up right. It steps the rear out to passenger side when giving her the beans. There are 3 likely possible causes for this: 1) suspension bushes need replacing on that side 2) shocks are failing on that side 3) de dion has bent/cracked or otherwise lost connection. In my case it is 1) and 2) but 3) is not an unheard of possibility especially since you have a 1991 chassis and things wear over time. Good luck!

Hi Bruce - Hope you are doing well? Put me in for a tentative on this date. Not sure what car I will be running but hope to be there at least to see you for lunch. Do you have a back up date should it rain like we have unluckily experienced the last few years! Cheers mike

Congratulations on reaching the finish of this monumental effort. Despite the damage it is good to know your car is back on the road better than ever! Well Done! :hurray: -
620R whine - supercharger or straight-cut gear?
Croc replied to SteveS's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Hi Steve - Welcome to another NYC resident. :seeya: There are a few of us around the area if you want to get to see a seven or just chat. The whine you hear is definitely the gearbox and has a touch of the differential as well - Blubarisax's car makes the same sound and he has the same gearbox and no supercharger (but does have a distillery now!). The supercharger is a higher pitch sound. -
I think I like Manshoon's style with his Pug photo avatar. :cooldude:

I thought most air hostesses just went to the hairdressers and had pedicures?

Hang it from the ceiling and it becomes a depreciable asset like fixtures & fittings. However, it is a pretty long depreciation life. And I just bet the IRS would not like you taking it out for a spin. Anyway, you are in start up so a ton of tax losses being generated right now since you have no revenue - exactly why you need to sell the car to fund the up front costs.... So not a good financial idea. Better idea is to generate revenue quickly and keep the car! I hope you are putting the distillery inside an Inc or LLC structure?

Come on Glen, buy it, you know you want it....

Roman - Either tires would be fine. I would use the cheaper ones and save the super stickies for your autox when times matter.
-
I just bought that image on a mounted metal plate for putting on my garage wall. Its fascinating to study and even more fun to check off the circuits that I have driven. So who has driven the most circuits? :cooldude:
-
And a few other things Roman - you will almost certainly be running with other sevens in that green group too and its cheaper than most HPDE offered. So come on down and join in the fun.

Anybody up for an R500 in Ohio? I have no affiliation with this but it is here for $64990 http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchDetails.aspx?itemid=1916562 And a very similar looking car here in FL at a different price? http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchDetails.aspx?itemid=2140638 ETA - same car per VIN number but its cheaper on the Ohio location ad. -
Saw this on Hemmings and it looked decent value for what it is - a good intact project. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/lotus/caterham/1641442.html I could have posted it in for sale but I figure the audience is better here! :cooldude:

Nahhhh...no chance of that. I wear socks in bed. I know, jealousy is such a difficult thing to swallow....

I know it is not to your taste but that is actually a pretty incredible find. I have only ever seen period photos of what the factory hardtop looked like. To know that someone bought one and kept it all this time plus is in quite remarkable condition for anything that came from Lotus....wow! Steelboro were the manufacturers for Lotus in NZ. I don't think they are around today but they had a reputation for high quality unlike most UK manufactured Lotus products. Now we do make fun of the Lotus Seven S4 today. Its a bit like that uncle you had in the family. You know the one, the anachronistic dinosaur who was a refugee from the 1970s. A safari suit with the flared trousers, mutton chop whiskers, dandruff, paisley tie, epic comb over, always saying the word "groovy." Rikker, I know you have many more years of experience over me and I can just picture you like that. :jester: Back to the car. An S4 always works best in dark colors. A black one with gold pin striping a la JPS style looked really good. Even I would contemplate driving one of those. A dark green one with yellow stripe up for sale at Wirewheels a few years back also looked good. The 1970s burnt orange look I would give to Rikker to relive his 1970s glory days!

Shaaaane....did you know the NJMP security guards do body cavity checks on dangerous characters that they get advance warning of? ....like you

its actually fairly common to have kits sitting around unbuilt. I know where there is a 2006 kit still in its crate. 2012 kit maybe sold late 2013 and only finished building in 2014 - not unreasonable.
