Since John is going to be driving south from WA he could pick them up on the way. Could be a great time to have another Sunnyvale lunch.
-
BTW if folks who are travelling need someone local to ship their tickets to I'd be happy to collect them and bring them to the event (will be there on saturday and sunday). PM me for more info. Also please let me know if you have any issues ordering tickets and I'll check it out on the GGLC end.

Fuel filled Engine....Gas tank Empty....
rnr replied to MHKflyer52's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Is your gas cap a two way vent? I know that the one on mine is a one-way only (out -> in). If it is two-way would you mind posting a picture/part number because I have been looking to replace my current cap with a two way venting version. -
I just ordered my tickets for Saturday. However since the wife will be bringing massive quantities of camera equipment I will probably be in the Elise instead of the Seven.

A sensitive right foot and a basic sense of self preservation should suffice

Are you still going for 600 whp? I'm assuming with that much power and the right gearing you could probably get within spitting distance of 200.
-
You could try the Lithium Ion battery from Porsche: http://axisofoversteer.blogspot.com/2010/04/add-lightness-porsche-motorsport.html Only $2000

There is a thread about this on CCC and I figured that there might be a few USA7s folks that might not have heard of it. http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/chat/showthread.php?p=11402 Looks like there will be at least 6 cars including a brand new Caterham R500. I know that a few folks from here have already signed up. NCRC signup page at http://ncracing.org/events.php

The Nittos are a night and day difference from the Azenis. With my 235 Azenis I would unintentionally spin the wheels in 3rd gear while with the Nittos it actually takes a little thought to get them loose. Also the lateral grip is so high that I actually destroyed my right front wheel bearing after just 2 sessions at Laguna. The wheel literally tilts vertically around the bearing in turns. Now its an old car with an old bearing that would likely have failed anyway but the Nittos likely did speed up the process :-)

As another data point I was easily pulling 1.2G at Laguna on the NT01 without getting anywhere near the limits of the tire. I'd expect that once I get the setup right and start pushing there should be a lot more to come especially in places like T6 and T9. -
Great meeting you as well Jim - too bad about the mechanical issues holding up the car yet again. Once the temperatures went up in the afternoon I was able to do a 49.3 in the Elise on street tires. I really need to learn how to drive the Ultralite :banghead: Perhaps you can make it up for one of the GGLC track days? They have 4 days coming up at Thunderhill this summer. http://gglotus.org/trkdays/ggtrkday.htm Nice pics Jerry. I'm jealous that you got to see Mojito. I need to beg/borrow/steal a ride in it some day.

How does it feel at speed? Does the front end get light?
-
I've actually seen a few different Sevens at track days and autocross but this was the first time ever that I had seen another Ultralite and it was quite surprising to see 2 others at the same time. Come to think about it this was probably 3% of all Ultralites ever made (

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2348/4509341438_f30c9ceebc.jpg Was at the GGLC Autocross today where I was surprised to see an orange Ultralite that I had never seen before (owner is not on the forum). Plus a few hours later Jim also showed up in his blue one and I was able to take this awesome picture of 3 in a row. I wonder how often there have been 3 Ultralites in the same place (with the exception of Loren and Kevins garage that is )

It's actually still in a temporary location while they look for a permanent space. SFF1 managed to get an invite because they bumped into the curator at some other event. However since he travels around so much it took almost 2 years to get this trip arranged.

Yesterday I had the chance to visit the Mallya Collection in Sausalito. For those of you who haven't heard of it, it is the personal car collection of Vijay Mallya who is the billionaire owner of the Force India Formula 1 team. I figure folks over here will probably be quite interested in  over the cars. Tour recap and pictures at http://www.rahulnair.net/blog/2010/04/07/the-mallya-collection/

I love the current structure. Seeing that no two Sevens are the same and that basic ideas for things like sump guards, fenders, lights, safety, etc are pretty much universal its much nicer to see all the conversations in one place so you can decide which ones to look at. Also people who have specific questions always list their kit so you can use the search function to get answers.

Since mine was the first prototype car the fender supports are actually a hollow square tube design. I should get in touch with Brian to see if he has any of the new design supports lying around. P.S.: Jerry is the one who suggested replacing the original rivets with the nuts which is a very useful thing to do. Also makes it much easier to pull the fender off once the support fails
-
Came with the car so no clue about procurement. Personally I'm looking to move to CF fenders if I can but haven't found a source for large diameter wheels (17 inch) yet. Fender mounting is a known weakness of the Ultralite kit. After my right fender fell off due to the rivets failing I used bolts to reattach both fenders only to have the metal supports on the left fender to break on a track day. Luckily this ttime the fender did not actually fall off and I was able to unscrew the second support and continue on.
-
My car has ~4500 mile on it and the fenders are in pretty good shape. The only markings are from the time my left fender fell off the car and got some road rash.

The Elise bodywork is 100% non structural. It does not even serve as crash protection because there is a separate crash structure bonded to the front of the chassis. The bodywork is purely for aero and to make it look good. Also while the chassis is very light (~160 lbs) it is immensely stiff ad strong which is why the bodywork is non-structural. Edit: I just realised you meant the S2 Seven - I'm used to the Federal Elise been referred to as the S2 which is why i posted the above. My bad
