  1. I bought my Nittos off http://www.discounttiredirect.com/ Great prices and were delivered in 3 business days.
  2. Glad to hear you made it back ok. If you do write an article for LowFlyer I hope you are allowed to post it here as well.

One thing to take into account is how easy/difficult it is to get out of the car. Ideally you want to be able to get out of the car in 2 different ways (eg roof and side) without removing your helmet.
  4. I recently had the pleasure of talking to long time GGLC member and Historic Grand Prix racer Chris Locke at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Chris has been campaigning his ex-Andretti JPS Lotus 77 in historic grand prix for five years and graciously agreed to share his experiences with the rest of the GGLC. The following is a short interview discussing the Historic Grand Prix experience, the history of his car and comparing the 77 to other cars both new and old.
  5. Glad you were able to leave without losing too much time. I did get this shot of both our cars in DietschWerks on Sunday http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4075/4901010167_e49849994c.jpg
  6. More videos from the F1 qualifying and race: http://gglotus.org/blog/?p=1482
  7. I use the Etymotics ER-20 reusable plugs :http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.aspx More comfortable than the regular foam ones.
  8. F1 cars lining up for the race grid
  9. Gert you should have told me about it. The owner is a member of the GGLC and I spent a long time chatting with him on both days. He is a very cool guy and we shot a 20 minute interview with him describing the historic GP racing experience - I'll send you a link when I finish editing it together.
  10. Unfortunately Toms car developed a bad wheel bearing this morning rendering it undriveable. Caterham USA is overnighting the parts to him and Rob Dietsch at Dietschwerks should be be able to do the replacement on Monday.
  11. The GGLC will have its usual pre-event breakfast meetup on the Saturday the 14th. We'll meet starting at ~7:15 AM at the N. Salinas IHOP (1075 N. Davis Rd) so we can sit down for breakfast by ~7:30 and be back on the road into the track (via the Ft. Ord entrance) by 8:30. I'll be the Indian guy in the grey Elise
  12. What kinds of gains are you expecting? I'd be interested if the price and performance are right.
  13. Video and photos of the T125 Exos that I took today: http://gglotus.org/blog/?p=1409
  14. All the folks who ordered tickets via the GGLC should have received them by now. Everyone is welcome and though we don't have to make formal reservations, but it would be great if you can post here so we will have an idea how many to expect.
  15. It would depend on the market. It strikes me that the luxury market would be the wrong one to go after. They would be much better served going after the trackday audience which is happy to pay $$ for harcore cars such as the Xbow, radical and the existing Lotus 211.
  16. I do know that Lotus is going to be have the World Premier of the new Lotus T125 ultimate track/race car during Monterey week. Its possible that the T125 is what Autoweek is calling the Seven successor. More details at: http://gglotus.org/blog/?p=1404
  17. Thanks but I have to admit that my driving is average at best. I need more seat time before I get brave enough to keep my foot all the way to the floor I've already picked up the proportioning valve - hope to install it next weekend. The DL1 is awesome for learning the fastest way around a track though the ideal situation would be compare data with someone else in the same car. For eg in the Elise I compared data with an excellent local driver and found that while my best lap was ~5 seconds off his I was losing 1.2 seconds of that in just one corner of a 15 turn track - really gave me something to aim for at the next event. I'm considering getting the Dash 3 Lite as a shift-light+predictive lap timer display but need to save my pennies first. My wife is already resigned to the fact that the Seven is going to be a life long project that will never be completed Glad you liked it though I should be the one thanking you and Loren for all the accumulated wisdom that you guys have shared on the various boards over the years.
  18. HPDE usually does not require any specific type of cage beyond passing a brooomstick test. As for actual racing it will likely need to have the front hoop added but the rest is waaaay over the requirements for NASA/SCCA
  19. I always wear a helmet and use my HANS on most long drives (non city) :-) You should drive mine the next time you are in town and see how you like it.
  20. Actually I sit very very low in the car and the lexan brooklands shield is only a couple of inches below the top of my helmet. I am not very concerned with getting hit by anything on the street. However I am going to be adding the removable front hoop to give me some additional protection for track days. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/4679292358_d13bbd641d.jpg
  21. Depends on the club. Most clubs will require some level of rollover protections (broomstick) but a full cage is usually not needed for HPDE. You will likely need arm restraints. Depends on the construction of the current bar and what changes you need to make. It looks like it is well under broomstick and will have to be raised at which point its easier to cut it off and make one from scratch. Loss of space would be the be the biggest reason to go external. Unlike most passenger cars you dont really go internal (as in inside the frame) but rather weld directly to (and in line with) the frame. My cage is welded directly to the chassis and curves outwards to give more shoulder room. This is my current setup http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2708/4458998282_98b2936e08.jpg This setup is great for street driving since it is pretty easy to get in and out while providing excellent side protection with no loss of forward visibility. I will likely add a removable front hoop section at some point in the future. Removable because it will make entry much more difficult and while I will put up with it my wife will not.
  22. Video is from a Countour HD 1080P camera Data from a Race Technology DL1 Data overlay in the video is using ChaseCam Dashware software
  23. Where is this??? That course must be close to 2 miles long!
  24. Not a Seven but this is my Elise on a GoKart track. It had just rained in the afternoon and this was was my first lap out in the wet and I almost went straight off at turn 1 :-)
