  1. Count me in... and Monday's are better for me too. If I get the Caterham rumors right Ron's (Redgoose) car is sold and a new Se7ven may be on the way. Hopefully the new owner will also be in Jersey.
  2. I second the idea of a NJMP Track Day for 7s. Croc should (with any luck) have his new CSR by then and we can all give a chance to show us what its got!
  3. 31K for just the crank? I feel so much better about the price of the cosworth motor now... perhaps I will get that sequential gearbox after all
  4. As requested here are some additional photos. Click on the photos for a link to lots more pictures. The Cosworth is in the works. Delivery is in 6-8 weeks. Is 14:1 and 300 hp too much or what! http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/Caterham/Caterham%20Ford%20Duratec%202L%20220%20HP/th_P1000125.jpg http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/Caterham/Caterham%20Ford%20Duratec%202L%20220%20HP/th_P1000122.jpg http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/Caterham/Caterham%20Ford%20Duratec%202L%20220%20HP/th_P1000120.jpg http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/blubarisax/Caterham/Caterham%20Ford%20Duratec%202L%20220%20HP/th_P1000114.jpg
  5. Two feet of snow on Monday in NJ, but it looks like 50 degrees tomorrow, thinking of taking the car out.
  6. Yes, I have let Ben know about the motor as well. He has his eyes open for me.
  7. I've had several questions on the price. I'd be willing to let the engine go for $5,000 (I'd guess $300-400 depending on your location) plus shipping. If you don't need the ECU, Flywheel, Clutch you could always sell them to help fund your project, but I would think most folks would like the complete setup. Please see my intial listing for the specifics of what is included. Cosworth tells me at LEAST 6-8 weeks before the new motor is done so we have a little time to work with here. This is a great engine, professionally setup by Ben at Caterham USA and fully ready to go. Karl
  8. Mike, she won't beat you up as long as you tell her that last 50 hp is just a wee bit more money... a bargain really compared to the fun she'll have watching me drive it!
  9. Mike, you are correct on the diff ratio. It is the standard for the Superlight. Now what was that you said about 350 HP and where can I get it?
  10. They may make some parts for other cars, but I think the Duratec stuff all comes from the UK. They were out of stock on the head, so they were ordering one from the UK.
  11. They use the Caterham 6-Spd in the CSR 260 race cars, so I think I'll be OK. If it breaks, then my dear wife will understand that I really have no choice but to upgrade. Still researching fuel pumps, uprated prop shafts and diff struts. Alaskossie, did you have to change out your exhaust system? I know the 2.3L is 1/2 inch taller? Any other clearance problems? around the intakes? For engine/parts specs and pricing info just PM me your email and I'll send out the info I got from Cosworth USA. But I must warn you all, once you look at this motor, you won't be able to stop thinking about it...it's worse than crack
  12. I'm not exactly sure of my diff ratio. I was going to keep the LSD that came with my R400. At 65 mph, the car runs bout 4,000 rpm in 6th gear.
  13. Yes Mike you did start this with the talk of 300 HP. Just trying to sort out the logistics of getting the motor setup. Ben at Caterham USA has been very helpful. The anticipated compression ratio is 14:1, but I may drop it to 13:1. 93 octane is easy to get in NJ, and I plan to mix it with race gas as often as I can. There are a couple of places near me that sell 100 octane gas. The guys at Cosworth USA say 93 won't hurt the motor as long as I take it real easy when on non race gas. I plan on trying to avoid driving in the Yukon Territory. As for the 6-spd, Ben thinks I'll be ok so I am going to roll with it. Hopefully I don't break it. From my research, the US 295 hp motors are assembled in California with a billet crank, 14:1 compression and 8000 rpm limits. The UK 280 hp motors use the standard ford crank, 7600 rpm and 13:1 ratios. I could be wrong on these specs, but the billet crank is the big cost item, they say it will be bullet proof. Karl
  14. Keep it on the down low, but I hope to squeak out a few more HP than Mike. I think Mike is getting the 260 HP Caterham CSR spec motor. Unfortunately, the extra HP advantange over the Caterham 260 HP engine won't be enough to offset my extra weight!
  15. The plan at the moment is the Cosworh USA spec 2.3L 295 hp motor. It has the Cosworth xl ported head, three stage dry sump, 14:1 forged pistons, forged rods, billet crank, cams, 48mm roller barrel intake and lightweight flywheel. I'm still trying to figure out what to do for a clutch, any ideas? I may also detune it to 280 hp by using 13:1 compression. Race gas (100+ octane) is a pain to get in New Jersey. The boys at Cosworth USA assure me that even at 295 hp and 14:1 ratios, the engine is still reasonably reliable and manageable on the street.
  16. OK, I've finally settled on my winter upgrade. Out with the 220 hp Duratec and in with a Cosworth crate engine. So, to help fund the upgrade, I am selling my current motor. It has just 1350 (or so) miles on it. The motor was assembled by Ben at Caterham USA to R400 specs of 220 hp. It started with a Ford remanufactured motor from Go Ford in Denver. ($3,800 with core) I added the 175 hp to 220 hp upgrade that included Roller Barrel Intakes, cams, injectors, valve springs and an ECU flash. ($4,400). To finish things off, I had a Caterham Dry Sump installed. ($2,550). This is a great ride and plenty fast, but I could not resist the sexy Cosworth marketing and my lust for just a touch more power. Included in the sale is the engine with all the ancillaries, including the engine, intake, dry sump, MBE ECU, engine bay wiring loom, alternator, flywheel, clutch and water pump. Not included are the Dry Sump Titan oil tank, bell housing, cooling/oil hoses. All these parts are easily available from Caterham. The motor should be available in February, once I get the Cosworth engine in and the Duratec engine out. A NYC area sale would be nice, but I will help with shipping and can put it right in the crate from Cosworth for safe transport. I am asking $5,000 for everything (plus shipping) and would consider a Quaife Sequential Transmission in trade. Now is the time to treat yourself for the holiday season! Ho, Ho, Ho... The motor is sold, thanks for all the interest! 17. I have the same issue being 6'6". I have the FIA X style bar, regular headrests and lowered floors and I am ok without a helmet. I understand from Caterham that they no longer make the tall FIA roll bars. I've been thinking about having my roll bar extended a few inches so I can meet the regulations on the track.
  18. Thanks for sharing. I am considering Helical gears, Caterham says they are much quieter than the straight cut gears. I am running a Durarec 2.0L built to R400 specifications, about 220 HP.
  19. So, as winter upgradeits sets in, I am thinking about replacing the my Caterham 6-Speed transmission with a sequential helical gearbox. The car is a Caterham Superlight R400 SV. I am not so sure that quick shifting is the limiting factor on my lap times but it sure looks fun. I did not do this when building the care this summer because I thought it would be too loud. Now it seems that helical gearboxes are the way to go. http://www.quaife.co.uk/catalogue/products/qbe60gh So...I am wondering if anyone has experience with this transmission and if so, what you thought of it. Looking forward to some feedback. PS. If I do get it, I'll have a low mileage (1,300) Caterham 6-Speed to part with.
  20. I must say, 300 HP sounds like just the ticket... Perhaps I could jam a hopped up cosworth into my Superlight SV over the winter...
  21. Welcome to NJ, good luck with finding the perfect Caterham. I'll put in a plug for Mike's car, its a beauty; and already registered in NJ. Act fast and you could still get in a few rides before winter sets in. Mike, if you are in town for thanksgiving, there is a spare setting at our table...(just sucking up to get a ride in your new vehicle!)
  22. ...i'm getting jealous. i think certian cosworth parts might go missing if we were to help him with the build!
  23. now is the time when he has to sweat over all the detailed options of the build...
  24. If I could find a deal on a RST-V8 and a sequential shift...there would be plenty of spare parts...
