Skip, interesting progression. I have the MirrorsForSevens and side mirrors and the only thing I use the side mirrors for is to back out of my garage/driveway.

Caterham 13" Wheels & Avon ZZR FS-New
blubarisax replied to blubarisax's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
I'm just glad I don't have to explain to my wife why I needed two sets of track tires. One set was hard enough to justify. I am going with a set of Michelin slicks with Rial wheels (8x13 Front and 9.5x13 Rear). I need to put on 8" wings for the front, but the rears are supposed to fit, although quite closely. We'll see... -
Caterham 13" Wheels & Avon ZZR FS-New

I'll weigh them mounted just for fun, but they just sold. They have a new home in Seattle and should be great fun in the rain! -
Up for sale is a set of new Caterham 13" wheels and Avon ZZR tires. I got them a few months ago directly from Caterham UK but have decided to go with a different setup. So these need to go. They are located in Northern New Jersey and while a local pickup would be easiest, I can arrange to ship them. They are all mounted and balanced and include the center caps. Here is what I have: Avon ZZR Tires 2-185/55/13 and 2 205/55/13 Caterham Wheels 2 6x13 and 2 8x13 The list price for the set from Caterham is 854 GBP or $1,353. Plus you would have to pay $3-400 for shipping. I'll let them go for a cool $995, plus shipping. I am going with a set of slicks for the track with wider wheels so I can keep up with Mike and Ron in thier new cars. If NASCAR can draft, why can't we?

Also have the Mirrorsforsevens and like the setup a lot. Karl

Congratulations on the new toy! Glad you finally made the big announcement. Personally, I love the look of the 13" wheels on the car. The diameter on the CR500's (and the ZZRs) is quite close to what you would get with the 15" setup. I'll let those more experienced debate the merits of 13 vs. 15 wheels on the road. My opinion is that you will look marvelous eithery way in the Krypton R500! What a car... Karl

The car you list has a number of options beyond the 61K base R500...paint, data logging stack, launch control, weather gear and BAM! you are at 67K. Add in another 3K for the motor and and 4K for the 6-Spd and you are at 74K. It would take a superhuman not to want to add a few extras onto a new build to make the car his/her own... I hear this kit may be fortunate enough to have found its "forever home" -

Makes me drool just to look at your motor. Questions abound... What specs did you get? What car did you put it in? Any issues you had to deal with? How was the ECU mapping? Did you have to dyno the car or use the standard maps? What did you use for a fuel pump/pressure regulator/tank? What Gearbox did you mate to? I keep going back and forth on the 14:1 CR to get the 295-300 HP vs. 13:1 for 280 HP; would love the power, but with 14:1 race gas is mandatory and with 13:1 premium pump in a pinch is OK if you take it easy. I have a good source for VP not far away, but I worry about getting stuck somewhere. Looking forward to hearing your story... Karl -

The R500 gets you some neet extras like thinner AL body pannels, carbon leather boot cover. But I think the real difference is all the engine extras (forged pistons/rods, cams, roller intake) are included in the R500 kit and with the CSR you pay for that when you buy the engine. For the R500 you just need to buy a basic Duratec for 3K remanufactured. Though I don't know the exact price of the Cosworth 260 motor, I bet the total cost of a CSR ends up being more than an R500. -

Mike, When I was takling with Cosworth UK about the 2.3L Duratec motors, they told me that the 280 HP spec engine they normally recommended for Caterhams did not require the billet crank. Under 7,800 the stock crank is supposed to be just fine. The Cosworth 250 HP motor has 12:1 CR, 280 HP has 13:1 CR and the 295/300 HP (formula atlantic) has 14:1 and the billet crank. Cosworth UK said the billet crank was overkill other than for all out racing, but Cosworth USA seemed to like it in any application. (I'm sure at $3,500 it helps meeting sales targets!) I'd be curious to know what Caterham does to get from 250 to 260. I know that the air throttle bodies are caterham not cosworth and I bet the rest is ECU programming. If they do include the billet crank in the Caterham/Cosworth 260 that would explain a few more RPM and HP and make the motor a real bargian. I chickened out in going with the 14:1 CR and detuned my motor to 13:1 CR. The higher CR motor definately requires race gas all the time and the MBE ECU does not retard timing to prevent detonation. I definately do not want the motor go go BOOM! Nitrous, why didn't I think of that... -

Mike, What about a carbon fiber diffuser and rear wing from the new SP/300.R? Great specs! -

Craig, Would definately like to see some pictures. I can't be the only one who can't slouch down enough to get under the broomstick! Karl

Mike M., I hope you were not over thinking the situation. I bet she was just a local young hottie looking to find an exotic race car driver to get her out of the sticks... keep the fantasy alive!!!

I'm curious to know how sturdy it would be if you really needed it. I just talked to a fabricator about extending my FIA roll bar. He is thinking it would be easier to just make up a new tall roll bar. Anyone know why Caterham stopped making the tall FIA bar?
