  1. SCCA D Mod rules sataed that DM cars required a scattersheild where the potential for injury to the driver existed anf drive shaft hoops were also required. in Caterhamsnthe flywheel is forward og the foot well and the drive tunnel is boxed in as a result nither was required in a Caterham.
  2. FWIW: this was posted in yesterdays SCCA-DMOD-EMOD@yahoogroups.com: "the ecotec 400 lb was in a running state as in intercooler, flywheel, fuel pump, water pump, all electronics, etc. this website appears to indicate a 400lb ecotec engine can deliver as much or more power than any v8 which weighs at least 200 lbs more," "it appears the 500+hp ectotec can be built for under $7000," http://shop.zzperformance.com/store/default.aspx
  3. I could be wrong but I think anything over 230 -250 will be a real strain on a T-9.
  4. Mike, I simply push the top up via the rear push rod and it swivels on the front super hose clamps and acts as an air brake. Works fine with my puny 200 horses. ;-)
  5. This site/group was created precisely for the expression of ideas like this without fear of being put put down for those ideas or for the type of Seven one chooses to drive. I started this thread almost a year ago and this is the first time that I have read every post from the begining. I found it very informative and for the most part, the banter was quit civil. We all love our little cars for various reasons. Maybe not because they are different but because we are. We build them and modify them to our own idea of what we want our Sevens to be. I dare say many drive their Seven very little while others drive them everywhere; about town, back roads, highways and yes, even for autocross, rally, hillclimb, time trial, track day and some even race. Some shod them with classic tires, bias ply tires and others with DOT radials. We paint them different colors or not and use metal, plastic and carbon. So why not have engines to suit every taste and budget. The engine is just one of items that make each of our cars unique and in many ways a reflection of our personalities. When I first got my Seven I was told that "we can never have to much rubber or HP." twelve years later....I AGREE. I have the rubber part solved. I have the twisties Solved. No problems with GT3s and Zo6s there. The only thing I don't have solved are the straights at VIR, Summit Point, NJMP and Watkins Glen. I don't like getting passed by those cars I worked so hard to pass in the curves. A top end of 132 just won't cut it. If you want a brick to be a fast brick then you need more HP. Period! Having read all of the posts, it seems that a turbo may be a more ecconomical solution than ordering a Cothsworth 295 Hp. I think 300 - 325 would be great but I should also upgrade the brakes. ;-) Anyone opinion on that? Thanks to all for your comments.
  6. the 2:11 was Pete. It is a Zetec Caterham DeDion with a Dunnell 247 HP motor and I think he was on Hoosier Bias Ply slicks. Pete may still be a distributor as Circle 'C' Performance. It is fast and Pete is a very good driver. He made my 216 Hp car seem slow. http://www.dunnellengines.com/zetec_engines.php
  7. Geoorge Alderman at MidAtlantic Caterham will likely know what you need.
  8. I don't know if this will help but here is a link to a T-9 manual http://mjdtopsites.com/images/type_9-N_gearbox.pdf
  9. Justin, I am planning on attending the April NASA weekend in HPDE group 4 with instructors.
  10. Justin, I am in Bethesda. The only events I am aware of are: April 21 SCA PDX /Club Trials @ Summit Point Shenandoah tarck Apr 27-28 NASA @ Summit Point Main Track
  11. Tom, You do know those 13x10s on the front are great for autocrossing but slow you down on the straighs. Right? I didn't know they were cheaper when you order 8 at a time. :-)

    T9 Rebuild

George Alderman rebuilt my T-9 and did a great job, fair price and fast turn around. We found that my issue was iver stroking the clutch. That issue was fixed today as a mater of fact. We replace the lower bolt in tr master cylinder with a six inch bolt that shortend the throw of clutch pedal.
  13. Keep watching Pistonheads.com parts http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/parts-and-plates/parts-and-accessories/caterham Theu had a brand new set of yellow glass clam shell and rear Caterham fenders for 400 lb. I don't think they sold and will likely be posted again. You migh also try Chip Bond at GT Classics in Charlottsville VA. He may have a set of new Caterham clam shells. 540-832-0307
  14. A new Zetec crate motor (135 hp) is cheap, like under $500. A Caterham with a Zetec requires a long imput shaft. I have an axtra one $1,000. If you are lucky the crate motor will come with a new flywheel and clutch to boot. It looks like a great little track day car. Especially at that price.
  15. Klasik Very nice indeed. Be careful about water on the floor. It is very slick on an epoxy floor. I slipped and completely tore my ham string. Croc, The size of the frig is based on how many friends you have and how close they live to you. I think you better get a big one.
  16. I think anyone who wants to do this should be very comfortable in tight quarters. What an excellent video of it ISS. http://www.youtube.com/embed/doN4t5NKW-k

  18. My new USED slicks seem to have at least 70% to 80% tread left and they are plenty soft. Monday they will be mounted & ballanced then be put go on the car. Once that is done the car will be aligned and corner weighted and aligned again. With good weather I will be at SCCA, Summit Point Time Trials early in March.
  19. Speaking of tires... I just found this store for track day tires. http://stores.ebay.com/Race-Tires-USDRRT Basically they offer used qualifying tires with 70% tread or more left. Think abput $50 or so per tire. I just bought four 21.5 x 13s for $119 delivered they look to be in great shape. Soft rubber with 75-80% tread remaining. Has anyone else used them?
  20. Go here to identify various Zetec engines: http://www.toyne.org.uk/zetec-engine.html
  21. Power, power power! Is that all you think about?? All I have done is cleaned and restained the seats. Repainted thr front suspension and frame. Remove the play in the steering rack. Instaled new ball joints up and down. Painted the springs painted and cleaned the brakes. I replaced the clutch and had the T-9 rebuilt then put the engine and trans went back in car on Sunday. The electric, plumbing and headers were hooked up as of last night. Collector and exhaust went on tonight. New stainless steel mesh going into fenders vents and then it’s off for alignment and a diff seal replacement. It should be road ready (but not faster) by next weekend. J
  22. Tom, You make some good points. I don't know my lap times at NJMP. However, Summit is 2.2 miles and I do that in 87 seconds. With a 30 minute session that is 44 miles per session with seven sessions or 303 miles per weekend. That's still over 3,000 miles in 20 days on the track. R6s are significantly harder that your 25bs. However, they don't get greasy as fast as the A6s, 25bs or Avons do in July and August.
  23. Anyone had their leather seats redyed? Or dyed their leather seats them self? If so tell me more. Thanks
  24. You will also need to consider what the temperature will be when you are using them. A soft compound tier won't make it through a 30 minute track session before they become greasy when it's 90 degrees out. Even my R6s have a hard time in July. A6s are good in the Spring and Fall. If you drive hard I do not feel the Avons have a long life but they are very gripy tires on a Seven. Expect to pay $50 - $60 more per tire over Hoosiers. For Hoosier Bias Ply Slicks the 25 compound spring and Fall the 35 in the summer. If you do not have budget go with the soft compounds an all brands. I tend to ger about eight hard track weekends out of a set of R6s. (3,400+ miles) The Avons only made it through three weekends.
