My new USED slicks seem to have at least 70% to 80% tread left and they are plenty soft. Monday they will be mounted & ballanced then be put go on the car. Once that is done the car will be aligned and corner weighted and aligned again. With good weather I will be at SCCA, Summit Point Time Trials early in March.

Speaking of tires... I just found this store for track day tires. http://stores.ebay.com/Race-Tires-USDRRT Basically they offer used qualifying tires with 70% tread or more left. Think abput $50 or so per tire. I just bought four 21.5 x 13s for $119 delivered they look to be in great shape. Soft rubber with 75-80% tread remaining. Has anyone else used them?

The wing and "hard top" are off waiting for my next NJMP day.

FWIW My car is the 7 America car submitted to the SCCA. However, it now has wide track, 216 hp and a full cage.

Power, power power! Is that all you think about?? All I have done is cleaned and restained the seats. Repainted thr front suspension and frame. Remove the play in the steering rack. Instaled new ball joints up and down. Painted the springs painted and cleaned the brakes. I replaced the clutch and had the T-9 rebuilt then put the engine and trans went back in car on Sunday. The electric, plumbing and headers were hooked up as of last night. Collector and exhaust went on tonight. New stainless steel mesh going into fenders vents and then it’s off for alignment and a diff seal replacement. It should be road ready (but not faster) by next weekend. J

Any favorite car upholsterers in Maryland, VA, DC?

If not dye, then what? -
Tom, You make some good points. I don't know my lap times at NJMP. However, Summit is 2.2 miles and I do that in 87 seconds. With a 30 minute session that is 44 miles per session with seven sessions or 303 miles per weekend. That's still over 3,000 miles in 20 days on the track. R6s are significantly harder that your 25bs. However, they don't get greasy as fast as the A6s, 25bs or Avons do in July and August.

Anyone had their leather seats redyed? Or dyed their leather seats them self? If so tell me more. Thanks -
You will also need to consider what the temperature will be when you are using them. A soft compound tier won't make it through a 30 minute track session before they become greasy when it's 90 degrees out. Even my R6s have a hard time in July. A6s are good in the Spring and Fall. If you drive hard I do not feel the Avons have a long life but they are very gripy tires on a Seven. Expect to pay $50 - $60 more per tire over Hoosiers. For Hoosier Bias Ply Slicks the 25 compound spring and Fall the 35 in the summer. If you do not have budget go with the soft compounds an all brands. I tend to ger about eight hard track weekends out of a set of R6s. (3,400+ miles) The Avons only made it through three weekends.

I just found these sites while looking for 13s on ebay. They both seem to have a large variety of slightly used race slicks with at least 70% rubber remaining. Prices seem to be between 40 and 50% of list + S&H. JB Racing www.jbracingtires.net orhttp://stores.ebay.com/Race-Tires-USDRRT

What can I say. It was done as a joke for Hyperfest at Summit Point the week before. It actually worked very well in the turns but was slower on the longer straights. The setup got a few laughs along the way and apparently still does. http://usa7s.com/vb/images/icons/icon7.gif

They offer Avons, Goodyear, Dunlap and others. SASCO is placing an Avon Order this week. You will need to put up a 50% deposit. Call Benjie, at 434 822 7200 to place your order

Caution on JetHot. If you have modified your motor, be sure to let them know. Your temps may exceed the limits of their Silver coating. I have a Zetec and the Silver coating burned off in ten days of driving. They said it was because I did not tell them it was a 216 hp Zetec. If they had known that they would have recommended the high temp Black coating. FIW: Even burned it lowers the temps in the car. I have also covered the engine side of the foot boxes and the transmission tunnel. I also stuffed the trans tunnel with foam to eliminate the hot air flow into the tunnel.

Or one could go on a diet and lose more weight than all of the carbon parts save not to mention the cost of CF. ;-) -

Some thoughts on your goals: 1. Cut out your clam shells. It elimenates the lift and saves alot of time and money. 2. replace stock seat, http://www.pistonheads.com used parts/caterham several used race seats available. 3. add a fuel cell, I see ATL and Fuel Safe make one that fits but price close to $2,000, also foam degrades if you use pump gas. Any suggestions Contact Folis Jones about the Feel Cell he sells fits great in passenger seat area and adds balance. I will PM his email address. Oh yeah...it costs alot less the FS. 4. Have 14" Panasports with Kumho tires with TWR of 50, nice and soft but no longer available, nor does it seem there are any race tires out there in 14" size. Any suggestions at 14" or if I change to 13's or 15's. For track use get a set of 13x7 and 13x8 run Hoosier A6 to last longer or Avons for best performance. 5. Stock brake pads, rotors good, any suggestion for a race pads. Hawk stopprd making race pads for Caterhams. I had performance make copies of the Hawk pads. they work just fine. BTW I am still running stock non vented disks and see no fade as I try not to use them much. 6. Muffler has loose baffles so though I would replace with Bullet type, ideas? I replaced my 7# Caterham Canister with a HushPower. Loud bot sounds great. 7. For 2013, thought I would do some engine work but limited to head. thinking HD springs, rockers (roller?) and push rods if stock not suitable. I have Zetec. Quicksilber Racengines in Frederick, MD does nice work on 1600s and Zetecs. 8. For looks, sides of car are bare aluminum, gravel blasted from gravel coming off soft tires, they need sanding as that are pretty rough, suggestions They will only get worse on the track. -
I agree with Steve. PCA and 7s are a thing of the past. This post is about LOG 2013. Watkins Glen and the finger lakes is a fantastic place to visit. W.G. is a nice villiage with cute shops and some good restaruants. The country side features great rides on the way to vinyards and more good restaruants. Sign up and have fun.

The SVs are made for the "wider" driver ;-)

Gary, Send me a PM with your email and I will add you to my local Seven list.

"PCA National DE rules do not allow for Lotus 7 cars or replicas, even with the wheels covered. I think most other models are okay, except for convertibles which all need approved roll bars." I just received this quote from PCA. I will share the entire email once I have their authorization. I informed them at my car had clam shells attached to the car, Full cage and I am an instructor. :-(

Taber, What are you talking about? I have probably put over 25,000 miles on my Seven in the DC metro area alone. I drive the 495, 270, 95 all the time. It's no big deal as long as you pay attention.

Johan. Welcome to the DC area. we have several Sevens in this area. In fact we are planning a Sevens Burgers and Beer for early January to be held in Bethesda, MD. You are most welcome to join us. Send me your email and I will add you to the local Sevens List so you know when we set the date.
