Ut7owner
I never realized that a "7" had taken 1st & 2nd places at Pikes Peak! That must have been one of Colin's earliest examples of a "7"
MoBoost
If you haven't gone to Pikes Peak and seen the hillclimb, you should. It is an amazing event, with an incredible variety of two and four wheeled vehicles. I want to go back!
Off Road SHO
I think it's paved all the way now, or pretty close to all the way. Would loved to have watched it in the olden days. You know the 80's and 90's. Tom
scannon
Its been paved to the top for a few years now. I drove my Caterham up it with the Lotus club a couple of years ago. We had an early start and had a brisk, fun drive to the top. If you want to drive it yourself at fairly brisk speeds, come to LOG 35 this coming August. One of the events will be a group drive up Pikes Peak. We will be the first cars on the mountain that day, led by a professional racer in an Elise. The city of Colorado Springs owns the road and we have an agreement to be the first on the mountain that day and they understand we will not be observing the speed limit. All Se7ens are welcome at LOG 35 http://log35.com/.

xcarguy
I like it. But I wonder; how much do those rear wheels and tires weigh?
coffee break
I like it. But I wonder; how much do those rear wheels and tires weigh? I'm not sure the weight is a problem. it looks to be powered by a V8.

scannon
It had a Ford V8 in it, not sure of the year. I've tried to track it down and although several people in the area know of the car no one remembers the owner's name or who might own it now. DeanG
It appears that there will be a LOG 35 assault on Pikes Peak. That will be fun. I think we will give ourselves an extra day or so to acclimate to the high elevation. Being hazy on that road probably isn't a good idea.
Paul Hill
We're thinking the same Dean. Plan to arrive Monday, see as much as we can.
scannon
If anyone wants to come early or stay late I would be happy to show you some of our choice canyons up North in the Boulder to Estes Park area. We could even do a two or three day loop up through the mountains that you won't see during the LOG.
Paul Hill
We'll try to arrange that Skip, though not sure what we will be driving at this point. We may be in our motor home, rent a car locally to get around. August is a long way off when we are barely over the expense of the fat bastard's annual visit. We'll keep in touch... bsimon
I would up for the Pikes Peak run. Keep me posted as LOG approaches. The driver of the Lotus Seven at Pikes Peak in 1966 was Dan Morgan of Pueblo Colorado. He was a regular USAC Champ Car driver in the area. He posted a 13:59.8 in the USAC Sports Car class at the Peak. The car was powered by a 289 SBF. Not much else seems to be known.
scannon
Paul, Rent, borrow or steal a trailer and tow the Seven behind the motorhome. A rental car isn't going to be much fun on Pikes Peak unless they are renting Hellcats or Ferraris. :hurray: I will be towing my Caterham to LOG so I can bring along the Baby 7 in the back of the truck. The club stopped by the event hotel in Colorado Springs and we got a tour of the facility. It looks to be very convenient for Sevens and trailers as well as the people. We'll try to arrange that Skip, though not sure what we will be driving at this point. We may be in our motor home, rent a car locally to get around. Paul Hill
That was the original plan Skip, a lightweight trailer, possibly enclosed, behind the motor home. But am not sure about having the Seven roadworthy by then. We also have a Meyers Tow'd in need of a refurb, it may be quicker to get back on the road... priorities? I do have a good buddies '62 rhd Series 2 at my disposal as I believe he is driving his Elise.
