Caterham on velocity TV tonight

I enjoyed the show, esp. as Edd mentioned that ANY car, regardless of how well maintained, has things that can be done to improve it. I'm seriously not interested in the installation of the lowered seat pans, or changing to a lightweight flywheel, or repainting and "rebadging" my Cat7SV, but the air box looked like a good idea, and I'd love a fob start similar to my Vette. Basically, they changed it to a "road car" from a "track car" and made it so Edd could ride along--it was mentioned that they were starting with the largest cockpit, so I "assume" an SV. I'm wondering why they didn't move the "kill" switch to the cockpit, to make it more accessible in a "road" car, as I had done during manufacture of mine. Overall a good show, but I'm surprised that they sold it to a broker rather than waiting for an individual/enthusiast/driver to buy it, as I'm sure it could bring more to someone not planning on reselling to make a profit. Mike mentioned how well the Caterham holds value.

Best shot of the whole show was the two rows of Caterhams sitting at their facility.

I cringed when they showed a shot of the front bonnet latch improperly attached while driving fast. Someone did that to my car and I nearly lost the bonnet. Now I always do it myself and stop people who are trying to be helpful when I'm putting it back on the car.

They cleared about 2K GBP but no mention of any labor cost for Edd to do the work, if they paid him a reasonable wage their profit margin was much smaller or maybe Edd gets a share of the margin.

I LOL'd when Mike said the power change from 125 to 140 HP made a big difference. That would have been swallowed up by having a passenger as big as Edd in the car vs. Mike by himself.

I find these kind of car shows to be more fantasy than reality shows. About as real as Top Gear but much less entertaining.

I like to tape my bonnet latches. I use clear box tape.

Talk about a surprise.

My bonnet did pop off at about 115 mph on the front straight at Summit Point. It shot straight up from the front and planted itself straight up against the roll cage. I just moved to the left slowed down to where I could pull it off and toss it to the grass and carried on. At the end of the event the track workers brought it to me and I popped it back on the car. Very lucky indeed.

I really enjoy Wheeler Dealer episodes...I dvr a bunch that I might be interested in and then watch them at my liesure...

Yes, the Mike bargaining part is kind of hokey, as is the Ed China acting like Mike always shafts him when he initially brings the car in...my guess is that both aspects are immaterial as they make their money on sponsership and cable revenue. I like the show because they usually have the cars I am interested in and frankly I have learned a few things from Ed China..most of the cars reviewed are British and other quirky European cars...not much interested in the other cable shows which are mostly of interest to muscle car owners...

Like sevenup I enjoy Wheeler Dealer and have learned a few things from it over the years. Their Elan, Exprit and Morgan episodes are definitely worth watching. Their Aston Martin episode gave me an idea of what ownership might be like. Ed described removing and replacing the dash of the Esprit as the most difficult thing he had ever done.
