This beautiful car was the first factory built Caterham Zetec in the US.

In 2000, the frame was modified by Caterham in England to fit the Zetec and then shipped to Frank Bolton, the US Caterham distributor.

It was then shipped to the SCCA for approval.

When Mr. Bolton sold the distributorship to Jon Nelson he sold the car to George Alderman of Mid-Atlantic Caterham.

George then sold it to me.

In April 2011 a Full, Removable Cage was built by Piper Motorsport for extra protection during highway drives in DC Beltway traffic.

The stock Zetec engine was also replaced with a brand new ZX3 motor from Quicksilver Racengines in June of 2011. It was tuned for pump gas and dynoed at 216 HP.

Currently the car is registered in Maryland as assembled vehicle and includes Maryland lifetime emissions inspection waiver.

I have used it as a weekend driver, autocross and track day car.

Say it ain't so Michael!

What was the nature of the engine refresh, ditto tranny? That is a pretty stout Zetec-my identical Zetec SVT made around 156 hp at the rear wheels on the dyno last year.

Al,

I live in downtown Bethesda and am only allowed 2 cars. The Z3 and Seven are in my garage. The X3 and trailer are in a rented spot 100 yds from my house. The owner passed away today and the property will be sold and demolished for redevelopment.

Thus I think the timing is right to sell a GREAT SEVEN.

Mike,

I can look at the bill and tell you.

The new motor was built by Quicksilver Racengines. It is basically a Formula Atlantic race engine detuned for pump gas. They say that with a race tune and race gas it can put out 245 hp.

MichaelD is too modest for his own good. He sent me a list of the extensive improvements that he is making. They are so thorough that I have concluded he is selling a nicely broken-in new Caterham! Hopefully, he will add the list of refurbishments here soon. GLWS, though I wouldn't be surprised that when this car' refresh is done, you will fall in love all over again and keep it:).

Mike,

Thank you for the comments. I don't know why I did not include that info with the first post.

1st, Both T-9 transmissions were rebuilt as needed by John Espisito at Quantum Mechanics in Oxford CN.

Then I ASKED GEORGE ALDERMAN of Mid-Atlantic Caterham TO CHECK EVERY NUT, BOLT, RIVOT AND MECHANICAL PART AND REPAIR OR REPLACE ANYTHING HE FELT WAS NEEDED.

THIS IS WHAT i PAID FOR:

CHECK HEAD AND DROP PAN INSPECT BEARINGS

OIL AND FILTER CHANGED

REPLACE BELT TENSIONER AND BELT IDLER PULLEY

REMOVE AND REPLACE HEAD

SET CAM TIMING

CHECK HEAD

LAP, GRIND ADJUST VALVES

REPLACE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND SEALS

TURN REAR ROTORS

REPLACE FRONT BEARINGS, BRAKES AND VENTED ROTORS

REPAIR FLOOR, REPLACE RIVETS UNDER DRIVERS SEAT

I AM HAVING THE NOSE, FRONT CLAMS AND AND A NEW BONNET (FROM TOM), AND ROLL CAGE AND ROLL BARS PAINTED IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. ALSO RE-STAINING LEATHER SEATS AND REPLACING DASH SWITCHES WITH NEW.

All should be finished by June1.

I am going to be sad to see this car part with its owner. I have had many happy times chasing or being chased around the track by this seven with Michael at the wheel. The remarkable thing is that Michael still uses it frequently as a daily driver. Good luck with the sale and I hope you enjoy your new car.

Croc,

Thanks for the kind words. Owning and driving a Seven is only part of the experience. Sharing the experience with others will be the part I will miss the most.

Who knows how long it will be till the right buyer comes along.

Then again maybe Kitcat will be correct. Every time I walk into the garage I know how much I will miss it.

Michael, I sold the Fury last week, have garage space, will maintain car and use it 500 miles per year non-racing in exchange-no room for trailer-you know my opinion on price so--access-continued ownership by a qualified-no incident lotus owner-
