A Lotus for Lars

Hope all are doing well. Had the "reveal" day for the Seven with Lars family, friends and fellow car addicts. It was a great sunny day with a good time had by all and only tears of joy! Having got to this point, the best advise I can give to anyone who takes on a car build project is to:

1) Seek out the best clubs and join them. In this case, could not have done it without all the help from USA'7s, Simple Sevens, and the Cape Cod British car club. Cheers to all and hope to pass on some lessons learned to pay it forward!

2) If you don't know how to fabricate either learn quick or find someone close by who can, you will need to fabricate some items from scratch, in my case it was brackets for fuel pump, fuel filter, throttle linkage, cooling fan mount, radiator mount, alternator mount, clutch feed hose bracket, cover, roll bar mounts, fuse box mount, and transmission mount, etc.

Many thanks to all, hope to meet swap stories in person!

Thanks all, it was a great day, many tears of joy! Hope to meet some fellow Seven owners and members at show and track events. Headed to Stowe VT for the British Invasion for sure, and vintage events, track days, Limerock in CT, Thompson In CT, Palmer in MA, and The Glen in NY are on the bucket list. Hunting for an enclosed trailer...

Cheers,

V

Thanks guys for commenting. My hope is that this build will inspire others (especially the younger gens) to pay tribute to those that have moved on to the next chapter while preserving and enjoying special cars. Could be a car not completed or one dreamed about and never owned.

Back in the shop tomorrow, engine is back in, new concentric clutch has been plumbed and gravity bleed, will test first thing, then if all good, carbs and starter go on, and start shakedown runs! Need to be ready for Fish & Chip run!

Hey guys,

The pipes in the photo you have seen are not packed, that is the "track day" pipe. I have a a road pipe as well. The valve cover is a Burton item that they sell only in Red or Black. Did not like those colors so, I sanded the outside, masked off the bare aluminum raised areas, and painted with silver engine paint. The powered by Ford badge is an Ebay or Amazon item.

Do you have a plan for afixing the scutte tabs?  Im in the same boat.  Last fellow that re-skined mine didn't provide a tab hole location. I have to hunt for it.  I will rivnut the fronts and make it all removable and might thread the rears, or sheet metal screw before drilling out large holes for rivnuts.

Congratulations-Great job! Remarkable how it looks better crafted and so much like mine in almost all color and detail including RHD----classic for sure. Only differences I see is that mine started as a series 1 "basket case" #475 I imported from UK  a long time ago and I fitted a full cage and pre-crossflow Cortina GT intending to go SCCA which was D production class back then.

Scott, I have been pondering how to go about that, and now have to get to it before putting the windscreen on. Toldfield, thank you for informing me of a tool I never knew of. Will search info on how to use it, and hope it solves the issue of drilling in the wrong place. Chris, thank you for the compliment, greatly appreciated.

Scott,

My body does not have the holes in the skins either. I have not looked at any drawings, but I take it there should holes under it in the frame?

Watched the video, pretty slick! Just have to figure out what is under the skin that was already on the car. From frame drawings, and web search, perhaps the scuttle tab bolt go through the outer and inner skins, in the corner where the square down tube meets the horizontal round tube? Scott, not sure what you mean by rivnutting the fronts? The only other attachment for the scuttle I have is are the four vertical studs welded to the frame, which use steel u channel brackets to clamp down on the formed U channel of the scuttle. Here are the U channel brackets sitting on the four studs.

Vin,

its a common mod for ease of access under the scuttle to drill out the rivets securing the front edge to the bulkhead, inserting rivnuts to the bulkhead, then attaching the scuttle with screws instead of rivets
