DanM Posted December 27, 2022 Share Posted December 27, 2022 Hey everyone, I am building a Mazda SDV and am using the MX-5 instrument cluster and wiring loom. The Westfield kit doesn't come with a hazard switch so I need to add one myself........ and to ensure that my OCD tendencies are satisfied, I want to replace the supplied demister switch at the same time so that they match. What is the physical difference between the two rocker switches? 2. Which one would be best for the Mazda wiring loom? 3. What else will I need to get to make them work? MV8 Posted December 27, 2022 Share Posted December 27, 2022 The 1981-2010 switch has six pins and the other has four. You'd need the mating socket and socket pins to use either switch. The pins may require a special crimp tool if they come bare with no wire crimped on for splicing. You may need to buy an instrument loom if they don't offer the hazard pigtail portion. It would also take some time analyzing schematics for both but you can use any switch with enough extra effort. I suggest carling switches, where you can have any option, everything is available, the crimper is not expensive/proprietary, and the switches are very durable. 11Budlite Posted December 27, 2022 Share Posted December 27, 2022 If you do decide to go with the standard Caterham type switch, you can get the plugs and terminals from British Wiring. When I rewired my old Birkin I was able to get everything I needed to make it a plug and play setup with none of the wires being soldered directly to the switch like it was previously. Lots of products for restoring rubber and plastic. you may want something specific to plastic like Mother's Back To Black, but a rubber polymer may be similar. Simplest answer for me after trying all nature of solutions and products which never lasted that long was to replace them on my old yellow 2004.
