Hi all

Hopefully someone will be able to help me here.

I'm ready to order a renewed T9 for my 2005 Seven, aside from the transmission are there any other parts I should order? (gaskets or other nicnacs...??)

There is a gasket that goes between the transmission and the bellhousing. I assume you are getting a complete transmission to install.

Complete, yes. I guess the gasket is the one that usually fails leading to oil leaks.  Is there anything I should change since everything around the transmission will go out?

I do not know how many miles on your car. Check the U joint. The problem is the drive shaft comes out the back. You have to take the differential out. What is the condition of the clutch?

21,000 miles, clutch is ok, zero slipping. Just can't shift at high revs, it's grinding, I can shift quicker in my 500 Abarth!  I think the first owner bought it with race track in mind and it has been murdered there... It's usable, but not as fast as I want it to be.

Make sure you use the correct oil. The oil used in differentials is different than transmission oil. The newest differential oil is actually too slippery for transmissions. If the car was used on track check the clutch for ware and make sure it is completely disengaging.

The Ford T-9 transmission should use API GL-4 oil. Do not use GL-5, it is too slippery and the synchronizers will not work as well. You will probably find oil that meets GL-4 and GL-5. Do not use that. Use oil that meets GL-4. I use Red Line. It is expensive but it works.

Yup, I know about that. And that's what I use now, but it didn't solve the issue.  Looking for a transmission in the UK cause in the US they're nowhere to be found.

Indeed, redline MTL is the way to go.

If you get a new T9 get some sort of documentation, they come in many flavors.

Also, not to be that guy, but it's not all that hard to rebuild a manual transmission if you have average mechanical skills.  There's a fair amount of information out there if you look.  If nothing else it's less expensive to ship some gears and bushings than a whole transmission.

I have a friend that is heavily into the Merkur XR4TI scene, that stock manual trans is a T9, I lot of owners swap to the T5. Maybe there are some T9's hanging around, I will see what I can find out.

My mechanical skills are way below average :classic_biggrin:  Just browsing on Raceline website but can't figure out what I want/need...

Try John Esposito, Quantum Mechanics (203-463-8299, john@quantumechanics.com). He is located in Oxford, CT. He is a good resource stateside. You can also try Chris Clainger at BGH Greartech in Kent, UK (011 44 1580 714114, bghgeartech@btconnect.co.uk). Chris is VERY knowledgeable and stocks a deep inventory of T-9 parts.

I have used both of these gentlemen over the years. They are the real deal.

John is local to me and rebuilt my type 2 box. I have a spare t9 and can probably find you one. Lots of friend in the Cosworth/Merkur scene.

I tried to call all day but no one picked up. I'll try again tomorrow.  I just want to make sure to get a long 1st gear.  Worst case I can try BGH since it's a transmission from them that I have at the moment.
