I'm ready to order a renewed T9 for my 2005 Seven, aside from the transmission are there any other parts I should order? (gaskets or other nicnacs...??) Just can't shift at high revs, it's grinding, I can shift quicker in my 500 Abarth! I think the first owner bought it with race track in mind and it has been murdered there... CarlB Posted October 21, 2023 Share Posted October 21, 2023 Make sure you use the correct oil. The oil used in differentials is different than transmission oil. The newest differential oil is actually too slippery for transmissions. If the car was used on track check the clutch for ware and make sure it is completely disengaging. CarlB Posted October 21, 2023 Share Posted October 21, 2023 The Ford T-9 transmission should use API GL-4 oil. Do not use GL-5, it is too slippery and the synchronizers will not work as well. You will probably find oil that meets GL-4 and GL-5. Do not use that. Use oil that meets GL-4. I use Red Line. It is expensive but it works. inchoate Posted October 22, 2023 Share Posted October 22, 2023 Indeed, redline MTL is the way to go. If you get a new T9 get some sort of documentation, they come in many flavors. Also, not to be that guy, but it's not all that hard to rebuild a manual transmission if you have average mechanical skills. There's a fair amount of information out there if you look. He is a good resource stateside. You can also try Chris Clainger at BGH Greartech in Kent, UK (011 44 1580 714114, bghgeartech@btconnect.co.uk). Chris is VERY knowledgeable and stocks a deep inventory of T-9 parts. I have used both of these gentlemen over the years. They are the real deal.
