hahuang65
So with my order awaiting just a few final parts at the factory, I decided to prep my garage. Rich from Kampena told me it'll be a 3-5 week journey once it ships so I still have some time. I recently saw someone mention their order from Kampena got mixed up, made me a little worried about mine. Rich sent me a couple of pics during build though so hopefully mine will be fine. Looking forward to building the kit!
IamScotticus
Are all those wacks on the wall Wyobi?
hahuang65
@IamScotticus yes the are. They're the Ryobi Link system. They're nice, but they're not as flexible as just doing straight pegboard. I see you're in Houston. Whereabouts are you? I'm over in Spring off the 99.

Very generous of you. I know it's quite a ways off since I haven't received the kit yet, but I've been stressed about this haha.
IamScotticus
I recommend the AllStar chassis dollies. I cut one in half and widened it 6" by inserting a 1.25" square tube. This is MSRP. Can find for less at Jegs and Summit. Buy one little thing and wait for the *% off coupon. Just get the seller to admit if the distributor has them in stock or if it's a drop ship from China. I'd pay more for any in stock. These will give you the height you need for the drop-in angle, and to crawl underneath to feed the propshaft, etc. Just pad the bars with cardboard so paint doesn't get scratched Edited August 28 by IamScotticus

hahuang65
@IamScotticus I was planning to get jackstands. Would you say those are not sufficient for the build? I'd really like to avoid getting these because I want to try to store as few large things in the garage as possible.
JohnCh
This is down to personal preference. I've built two cars on Esco flat top jack stands and have never longed for something taller or on wheels. They've been more than sufficient for me. The one caveat is that both times I had plenty of build space around the car. Given your space is more limited, the ability to wheel the car around -- particularly if it's a leisurely build -- might be a consideration. IamScotticus
^^ This^^ exactly! I'm in a two car garage and guess who is taking up the other side! When she's out I can spin 7 around to have access to what I need. Please don't do homemade rolling jackstands. I can put Beater on the ground while you do your build, yea, you can use my stands. Just have me around for the lowering and lift-off. I have a long reach floor jack, something else you need. IMHO. To be clear, lowering a 7 from 15 inches is done three inches at a time. Do you have 13 feet to rotate a 7? Edited September 1 by IamScotticus
empti
@hahuang65 My 420R is probably shipped within the same container as yours. I need to upgrade the garage lighting before the kit arrives. PM sent to you as well. Maybe we can share some idea building it.
CBuff
I got this work light for my garage. It works really well https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09RBCW8DH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

I don't want to bother you. I have 3 kids, so it's gonna be a LOOOOONG build. I'll get some stands or dollies you recommended. Will I need a jack to lift it initially? My build will unfortunately take quite some time though, as I will likely only spend a couple hours per week. Replying to your PM also.
IamScotticus
Floor jack, yes. This isn't a car you will want to take to the local service station. You need to do some things yourself, and a floor jack is among the most handy things. Probably the rear A frame bush, tyre rotations and oil changes will be the more common uses. And checking out the damage after going over a curb, lol. I actually did it. Being that low to the ground, it's not always obvious how deep a step or drop is until you go over it. Welcome to sevening! Those Allstar dollies do rotate to be perpendicular and flat. But, yes, it's not likely you will need them very often. They're expensive for a single time use item. The other dolly solution I like are these wheel dollies. I'm partial to one kind over the other. BOTH can slip out from under the wheel, but the diamond plate V type is far less stable. Once on the ground on its wheels, on these dollies, the 7 moves around easily. Edited September 4 by IamScotticus

I'm definitely planning on getting something. Just trying to figure out if I need it NOW. If I don't I'll put it off, and want to get the QuickJack at some point...but if I do need it to start the build, then I'll probably have to pick something else up for now. CBuff
https://a.co/d/6Lt1B91 j got this and it works well. Relatively light and fits under the car. BIG RED T42202 Torin Steel Jack... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0028JQYPG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and two of these. Not bad. One Jack isn’t quite square when on the floor. But still works
fastg
I find the flat top jack stands much more useful with out under car construction. Graham https://www.amazon.com/10499-Profile-Performance-Cushion-Capacity/dp/B01EJ1OGRI
CBuff
Sorry I should have clarified. I didn’t have space to build my car. So this was purchased for routine maintenance.

How many flat top Esco jackstands do I need for Caterham? 3 or 4? Thanks!
