7Westfield Posted Wednesday at 01:34 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:34 PM Anyone ever use the rattle can bedliner spray? I'm considering it for the front of rear wings, instead of the present metal guards.
KnifeySpoony Posted Wednesday at 03:51 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:51 PM I did the brush on stuff on the underside of my rear wings when I built my car to try to prevent star cracks in the GRP. I did a few coats but it is chipping up quite a bit after just a couple years. I doubt it would last well on the front of the wings, which really take a beating. But maybe my product was just not a good one or I didn't get enough on there. You would need a super thick, rubbery layer to perform well I would think.
7Westfield Posted Wednesday at 04:12 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 04:12 PM thanks kinda confirms my suspicions I'll just make a new metal set after they get painted this winter
MV8 Posted Wednesday at 05:10 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:10 PM (edited) Consider bedliner coating the front of the new .050" steel guards after painting. Edited Wednesday at 05:12 PM by MV8
7Westfield Posted Wednesday at 05:17 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 05:17 PM I was actually considering polished aluminum, either embossed or diamond plate
pethier Posted yesterday at 04:56 AM Posted yesterday at 04:56 AM Please not diamond plate. It would look horrible and not be any more effective than flat.
pethier Posted yesterday at 04:58 AM Posted yesterday at 04:58 AM The problem I see on my Caterham is that the stainless guards are very good, but do not go high enough.
MV8 Posted yesterday at 09:13 AM Posted yesterday at 09:13 AM Polished .048" 304 6x12", $25: https://www.mcmaster.com/9785K232/
theDreamer Posted yesterday at 05:34 PM Posted yesterday at 05:34 PM (edited) Many on here have seen the green with yellow Xflow that was up on bat. It has black bed liner coating on the rear fenders that wraps around to the opening. Personally I do not like the look. I much prefer PPF on the exposed area beyond the OEM stone guards to allow the car’s colour to show through. I have seen were an owner used an adhesive backed rubber to cover the majority of the stainless guards but left about an inch of the shiny silver perimeter (where the rivets are) visible. That looks really classy. On another somewhat related subject… My front fenders are out getting the undersides sprayed with truck bed liner. I will do the inside on the inside of the rears myself with a rattle can product if/when I ever get the car home. Edited yesterday at 05:36 PM by theDreamer
CBuff Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I have ppf on my carbon (faux carbon?) stone guards 2023 420r. And some on the exposed outer edge up to half way around the fender. I’m a little bit crazy and kind of wish it went all the way around. The paint shows some wear past the ppf line. Maybe I’m too precious. I also have the front half of the front fenders . And full side panels (which get pretty hammered in hard lock turns ). I like the body colors to show.
