Gentlemen: Start your odometers

It's starting to thaw out in Cincy and, after a few more good rains, the salt that's everywhere will hopefully be gone. So it seems like a good time to see who does the most driving around here.

I propose that we jot down our mileage now and compare notes next November 1 (the useful driving season in this part of the world).

No prizes, but maybe braggin rights.

I know a car from west Texas will probably chalk up 7K miles by the end of May alone. Then there is the fanatic in Wisconsin who apparently uses his Seven to plow his driveway in the winter, so he will be a factor too.

Tow mileage doesn't count so I propose a second category-those who towed their Sevens the farthest.

Of course its all honorary and besides, its the quality of the driving, not the distance, that counts. But, why not?

I am at 18, 097, and counting!

Kitcat,

I'm at 17287 and put the first mile on it in August 2003. I use to drive it to my office once or twice a week on nice days which was over 70 miles round trip. Now semi-retired and work out of my house.

Maybe that means I will have more time to put some serious miles on it!!!

By the way. I hope to head over to the Queen City a time or two this Summer to check on a good friend's progress with his new SuperStalker build. He lives in West Chester.

Mike, this is an awesome idea...perhaps the club can pony up an ongoing trophy to commemorate?

I think the mileage should be submitted via PM or email in Nov just to keep all entrants on their toes...

(Should there be another contest, counting $$ spent in the same timeframe? :ack: )

For the record, I have 3,970-something miles in oh, 3 years of ownership! I think that qualifies me for close to dead last in this particular contest.

Hope to see many of you at Carlisle. Or at the NYC Auto Show on the 29th. I've been reminded that it's "rain or shine" by the LEO organizers, so perhaps I'll look like I was in a dunk tank regardless...

New car is a at 0 for now. We will see what the next few months does to the odometer.

As far as reporting what we spend on the car could be a bad idea. My wife looks over my shoulder at times to read whats going on. I do not want to self incriminate. As far as she knows I bought all those parts on ebay for pennies on the dollar. Thats my story and I am sticking to it:)

:iagree: I strictly follow a "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

My wife and I had much fun in this boat! When I started going too fast for her, her fingernails would head towards my legs. The faster that I went the deeper her nails went. About 60 mph was her comfort level. It's not jet, its a v-drive flat.

I'd settle for a rough estimate. In true Caterham tradition, one of the many non-working parts in my car for a while last year was the speedo (first the drive gear broke, then the gauge itself fell partway out of the dash) . But I had a pretty good idea as to how far had I traveled during that time.

Let's face it, its a big deal if your Seven can actually travel, knowing how far it went almost seems like an unnecessary luxury in comparison:).

Seems to us this subject is very much "ON Topic"

We accept the challenge!

Our se7en has "1,486" miles on it.

yeah thats 1,486 miles on a 9 year old se7en! Ok sure we could keep her super low miles and push her on and off a trailer going to car shows and whatever..but if we wanted a pure showpiece we could just hang a picture of one in the garage to stare at. We bought it to drive. So as soon as the rain washes away the big piles of snow (or is that salt?) off the frozen tundra of ohio roads we are good to go. Our first goal is to wear out the rock hard tires that came with it so we have an excuse to buy a new set of those toyo's. Miles of smiles to come! :) :) :)

SW25:

Get the new tires now! You will never wear out tires on a 1200 lb Seven. And if they are rock hard, not only will they last even longer, you will miss about 50% of the Seven experience.

The biggest single improvement I have made to my Seven was ditchin the 12 year old Michelin's-which looked like new-for a set of ToyoRA1's.

It transformed the car's handling and it became the awesome, road hugging machine it was advertised as being-instead of the twitchy, tail happy car that had to be driven ever so carefully. Tell Mary it's a critically important safety item (which it actually is).

22,856, but I feel cheated I have put almost 500 miles on since moving her to Alabama 6 weeks ago. 23K in 30 years... When Erin and I bought this 18 months ago I had just over 20K.

Lets see I will have the BRR in Sept for 800 miles, a 100+ mile drive in a 2 weeks, maybe if I drive to PA and Indy...

Does anyone know what tires are the softest treaded dot tires that you can buy?

The tires that Box ID's are wonderful, as long as it doesn't rain. They are basically slicks with 2 token grooves posing as tread.

If you want a grippy street tire with tread, look at the Toyo RA1 or R888. Both are excellent track tires and rain tires and street tires. They are about 2 seconds a lap slower than the Hoosiers or Kumos, but will last 10x longer (maybe 10K miles) and offer decent driveability should it rain.

I think the Toyos' wear rating is 40-most street tires start at 140 and go up. I have run all the above on my Miata and liked the Toyos best as an all around tire. I have them on my Seven now and they are great. If I were towing my Seven to a track, and using it mostly for track days, I'd go for Hoosiers
