getting exhausted

Hello all

my seven is the only one i have ever seen to have exhaust piped through the center channel and out the rear. the problem i have is that i think its compressed way to much in a few points that reallllllly restrict the flow. as much as i hate it i may have to go with the side exhaust. i would like a QUIET setup that flows good. are there any recommendations?

My first 7 had a side exit exhaust; noise made driving experience less than perfect...

Current car has the 'standard' Caterham left-side muffler / rear exit system that tucks in front of LR wheel, goes over axle, and out the left side below taillights.

Don't see much more restriction over the basic muffler, but WAY quieter in the drivers seat.

What did you say?????

I think for some of us it's both. If I don't use ear plugs even for a relatively short blat. my left ear definately suffers, and if I only put one in the left ear, It is obvious to me that the right unprotected ear suffers as well.

I think it's due to the size of the grin on my face. It must open the ears more.

Al I still can't believe you'll give it up. :seeya: Tom

Most definitely. On the track I have to wear earplugs. First time I didn't, my ears rang for three days.

I love the ITB noise - it's so cool.

independent throttle body....one butterfly valve/cylinder. It helps throttle response at the cost of weight/complexity

Extra noise comes from the air rushing into the tubes. Long, single throttle bodies act as silencers...

very cool mod to do.

edit: quick google

my exhaust does not run on over the rear axel, it comes right out of the center channel.

I think that exhaust makes your car look really clean (nothing down both sides). Sounded pretty good when I heard that Ebay video...

I don't know about how restrictive it is. But if possible I'd keep that route, especially if it's only going to make a couple HP difference.

I wish I had that option.

yikes!

what's feeding those two coffee cans?

no coffee cans here... you may be looking at the tips which are 3". in person they are no THAT big.

In other news, i think i may have found the solution to my exhaust problem. I will be keeping the rear exit but i will be rebuilding the system with 2.5" from the header. i will be using oval tube (http://www.drgas.com/store/home.php?cat=8) in order to keep this stuff in the frame or worst case no lower then the oilpan. i will end up using 2 magnaflow or borla muffers at the which will be on their sides for clearance.

now to just find someone willing to build this exhaust for me...

I would think that a single 2.5 muffler would be plenty sufficient flow for a 4 cylinder and you could still split it after the muffler for the same look.... make it a little easier on yourself, save a little space and $$
