Its just a go pro on the suction mount set to shoot a picture every 2 seconds. Nothing special at all. You just need to think a little and not just "set and forget" Have a look at my tumblr link bellow for some other shots.

Your "tumblr" videos and photos are wonderful. They do an excellent job of conveying what's special about owning/driving se7ens. So much better than what we point-and-shoot guys obtain w/our cameras. The legendary GoPro bad sound quality was missing on your video. Did you do something to enhance the sound quality?

  • 3 weeks later...

Earlier this week I got a chance to take an Audi R8 and a Ferrari 430 for a spin. Nothing crazy though I did drag them to 120 or so on a safe section of highway. I guess I wasnt as impressed as I thought I'd be. I think it is because, other than pure horsepower, my Birkin's performance is no slouch so its not much of a step up. More of a step sideways into luxurious doors and roofs. One thing I have to say is those cars go where you point them. All the computers and traction control make throttle steering and under/over-steer a thing of the past. And oh those stupid paddle shifting automatics! No thanks... I think I'll keep my 5 speed. I did like the backup-camera on the Audi. Ferrari felt better as a sports car and seemed faster. But just look at this picture and you'll spot the fun car. Se7ens forever!!!

Herb,

I see from the photo that the Audi R8 was a V-8, not the V-10...wonder if that might have made a better impression?

You may recall that during the Black Hills tour last July, I mentioned something about thinking of buying a V-10 R8... There are no R8's in Alaska, so before the Tour, Skip Cannon took me to an Audi dealer in Denver to see one first-hand (I'd seen one on display at Heathrow in London when they first came out, but had never sat in one -- and I've not driven one yet). I was impressed (and eventually, I guess not favorably) with the sheer bulk of the car.

But it does look intimidating....

I eventually concluded that even if I had the money (which remains to be seen), that was simply too much to spend on a car with a potential that I would never fully use (where are you going to sustain 160+ mph?) and with running expenses to match its initial price. Too much Beverly Hills for me, I guess...

This is an odd one, but a personal fave. It's my car MAX, with Sharon in the passenger seat holding up our scoring packet, me driving...this is the finish line photo at the Sahara, we'd just won Berkeley to Vegas. 32 horses, skinny tires, Prisoner livery, 800 miles on cooking oil mooched from customers at convenience stores. Maybe you had to have been there.

Last year I put a slippery body on it. Is it still a Se7en? Hey, it's the same car, I merely gave it fresh skin. Can I still stay in the club? 'Cause if so, I have a new fave photo.

PS--as you can see from my number of posts (wow, two posts already, and it's only been a little more than five years), I've been a long time lurker.

Wow Jack I bet that makes all the right sounds ! Whats the engine an "A" series?
:-) Not hardly, in fact it makes all the sounds. It's an 1100cc Kubota three cylinder turbo, and it sounds like a backhoe. The muggles (the folks that ask "What is that?" as opposed to those who ask, "What is that, a Lotus Seven?") don't notice because it sounds like some sort of antique sports car when they're looking at it, but if you close your eyes, it's a backhoe.

Nowadays it's wrapped in a mockery of a late '50s sports racer body, which made a huge performance difference (32 hp ain't much and it needs all the help it can get), but sometimes I fear I've given up its USA7S cred. I'm still not sure how much of Se7enhood is skin deep.

Jack and his "Seven in disguise" visited us during the Black Hills Tour last summer in Deadwood, SD. When he left the parking lot under full throttle it sounded like a sports car and he managed to get rubber in second gear, on 32 HP!

IIRC he was averaging 90+ mpg on this trip running on Diesel rather than fryer oil.

That was a lot of sevens with a huge variety of styles and customization. Thank you for posting - I see the Hay Plain has not changed in 20 odd years when I used to drive trucks across it. Chateua Tanunda looked the same as well. Really nice photos.

If we held a Nationals I doubt we would get that many?

Really an impressive aray of "7"'s, for any country. I hope the interest in the V8 Supercars doesn't detract from the interest in smaller, lighter cars that has seemed to stay very healthy "down under", including NZ. I had the pleasure of spending several months in NSW back in the late sixties and it seemed like the motorheads there were all about Sprites, Midgets, MG's and just about anything small that could be made to go fast. Probably had a lot to do with the available cars with RHD but also seemed to be a lot of pride on getting the most out of as little as possible.

I liked the sense of humor on the car in photo 39 and 53 with the "7" the "right side up" for the rest of us northern hemisphere folk.

Great post, thanks for the photos.
