Paint job cost

Recommended Posts

I am considering having the nosecone and wings newly painted (look like crap after many road trips).

What $ should I expect for a quality job (strip/sand, fill, good paint) if all the parts are removed, no masking required.

Mind, this is California.......

Thanks,

Gert

P.S.: How about Mazda MX5 '09 Competition Yellow?

IMHO 1992 Sunburst Yellow or 2002 Vivid Yellow are much better. Both have the same HZ paint code. The Competition Yellow looks like a pumpkin next to the HZ cars. I might be just a bit biased here since I own one of each of the '92 and '02 yellows. When the time comes to paint my Caterham, it will be HZ.

Our Miata club president ordered one of the Competition Yellows, waited 3 months to get it, took one look and said no way I'm buying that color. He bought a red one instead.

He used to own the '02 that I now have. He is very sorry he sold it now. Wants it back but someone else has a deposit down on it.

I just had my Birkin nose cone, cycle fenders and rear fenders painted here in NZ in 2 pac with 2 coats of clear coat Slomove all bits were removed from the car and the cost was NZ $850 including GST (local govt taxes 17.5%) it will be intresting to see what you get priced in the good old US or A :)

Pictures of the car with the new paint job are under the members ride section.

I had my nose cone and rear fenders done with chip protection on the front of the fenders and underneath the fenders for $500. That was about 9 months ago.

Thanks guys, that gives me an idea....after all NZ isn't that much different at about $560 after conversion.

I have been looking around in the LA area with estimates from $500 from the more grungy shops to $900 from bigger outfits. After all, more expensive than I thought.

But I went for a place close by that can do the job without wait for $750. They use DuPont car paint (I hope that speaks for quality?) mixed with their own computer equipment with 3 layers paint and 2-3 layers clear.

After all I decided against the Mazda Competition Yellow. It is indeed a hue of too much orange to me. I think MoPho can not be trusted in that regard because his own car has burned out the orange receptor cells on his retina :D.

But I did not go for the old Mazda Vivid Yellow either. Once the job is done and it looks good I will reveal the color. And if it does not look good I will just wait a while until nobody remembers and claim I got the car that way.:o

Thanks for the tip. But I am not that perverse (apologies to all wineberry colored Se7en owners and yes, you are that perverse...)

I will still have it painted yellow. Maybe I am going to post it anyway (nice or not) when done and let you guys guess from which car it is borrowed. The winner will get an 8-hour passenger ride for the local mountains (airfare and hotel not included) :smilielol5:

P.S.: Thanks for the reference Martin. But I issued the work order to a local shop today because I need to get it done by mid of next week....

Corvette Yellow

I think I mentioned Corvette yellow in another thread, and I agree totally. It has a nice saturation. So Skip, if that is the color that Gert chooses, you can have the all expenses paid trip and 8 hour drive since I live close to him anyway! I get to tag along in my Birkin though. ;)
