Different clone issue

Recommended Posts

I've been lurking here for 6 mos. I read most of the threads.

Since everyone has different clone 7, I doubt you can advice technical help. I watch your technical discussion, that seems dry and staggered at times....not moving since the 1st week of winter. It's the same old threads.

In typical car club group, most are looking for technical help. This site will not provide what most are looking. Do you think $25.00 worth joining

just talk other things?

Just want to hear some of your opinions.

Well first let me say hello and good day to you.

As for the General Tech section not being used or as you say moving I do not agree but that is OK as we all do not have to agree with each other as long as we respect each other and understand that this forum is a place that information can and is passed onto others for their uses as they see fit and in no way is the only answer to a question that someone asks.

The General Tech section has over 23 pages of questions and answers that due duplicate something’s and do not address other things at the sometime but it also provides a source for someone to ask a question and possibly get an answer to their question or the direction to the answer that they are looking to try and find as do the other section of the forum.

As for joining the forum as a paid member it is just a way to support the organization /forum and its members as it is a no-profit forum to the best of my limited knowledge that allows anyone that is interested in LSIS (Lotus Seven Inspired Sevens) a place to ask questions and to post experiences and things that might not be of interest to all but might have some information that someone could find interesting and useful so joining the forum as a paid member is just a way of showing that you support the forum and group and any person that has an interest in any type 7 from the homebuilt 7 (like mine) to the original Lotus 7's and all forms of 7's in between so yes becoming a paid member is well worth the money in my belief and yes I am a paid member just to let you know that feels the membership fee is very just and put to good use for the USA7’s.ORG and it’s members.

Most of us keep an eye on all sections of the forum. If you post a question you will most likely get an answer or a link from someone who has dealt with the same problem and researched or invented a solution. If your just trying to make a decision on what to buy, get ready for as many "I'd go with this one"s as there are kit's and clones out there. We all love em', and our own the best, or we wouldn't have them.

I've joined because I found it to be the best site I've been on as far as people who really have experience with the car in question getting back to you and following up on where you are with your problem and to see if what they posted helped.

Welcome to the group.

1. This site is whatever the members make it. If you want a technical discussion, start a technical thread. If nobody here can help you, posting your question here does not prevent you from posting it on some other site with really smart people.

2. Since we're in this thread, you obviously know you can keep the $25 in your pocket and talk about other things here.

3. Whatever you do, make sure you don't register under multiple emails and post stuff here. Saying that, just in case it becomes an issue. :)

As mentioned, this site is more general than some other 7 sites. WCM has a site for

S2K owners that is almost all technical help.... the California Caterham site has a lot of help, both technical and actual people (in So. Cal anyway). I wouldn't doubt that Birkin & Westfield also have places to help owners of those brands.

At first I was surprised there wasn't a technical section that was broken down by brand of cars but soon figured out that most cars aren't that different and there was other places for particulars.

I think this site is best for the social networking of all 7 owners... blats, events, trackdays, and some technical stuff when requested.

I agree, social networking such as events are right on target but I disagree on technical stuff. Tough to give advice when dealing multiple marques. It should be broken down by kit.

LocostUSA & Flying Miata (Westfield) has it's own identity.

Because of their specific marque (Locost-Westfield), technical help is possible.

"Troll" is unfriendly, non-technical statement when someone is direct & looking for opinion.

There are a lot of very savvy mechanical types on this site, and from what I've seen, they can help in a lot of ways, Metal working, Welding, and I'm sure there are some mechanical and electrical wizards here as well.

As for specific technical assistance with a particular marque, What are you looking for?

I have a Caterham with a Rover K series motor, If I have a K series issue, I go to Blatchat on the Lotus Seven club of the UK. But if it is any other mechanical or electrical isssue I would post here first.

Just my two cents.

Tom

Your first post appeared to me to be abrasive.

You are evidently direct enough to be considered abrasive, as your second posting would suggest.

Once we become familiar enough with the language of your postings, i'm sure we'll :grouphug:

That's how the site was when I started it. Had a section for Cat, Westies, Birkins, Ultralite, Stalker, Rotus, etc... Ran it that way for a while.

There simply aren't enough sevens to support that structure. You end up with a bunch of sections with MUCH less traffic than what we have in the tech section today.

So I consolidated them all - later on, I had a few requests for a bike engined section, so I created it. When the demand is there, I will change the structure.

Also, among Birkin, Westies and Cats (majority of the sevens), their commonality is as much based on their drivetrain choice, than brand.

I don't consider direct being disrespectful. If you can't offer an opinion to a direct question, just save your abrasive notion?

Hi,

Your first post should have stated who you are and what kind of 7 you have .

If you have questions about a 7, let's hear.

Instead, you are telling us what is wrong with this forum, it's not perfect, but it's

pretty damm good.

Look forward to your questions !!!!!

Yes I do find you disrespectful, but I'll still answer your questions.

I love the current structure. Seeing that no two Sevens are the same and that basic ideas for things like sump guards, fenders, lights, safety, etc are pretty much universal its much nicer to see all the conversations in one place so you can decide which ones to look at. Also people who have specific questions always list their kit so you can use the search function to get answers.

Excellent way of explaining it. "simply not enough sevens to support the structure".

I agree and I understand.

The social activities will flourish but tech will complicate more if you add another clone to the bunch....say my Robin Hood?
