JohnCh
Beautiful car. I'm almost afraid to ask this, but if $79k is "less than retail pricing" what is the full retail price for this spec? -John
jimrankin
Am I mistaken or did they say "kit"? If 79K is less than retail, and it's not even put together, what is a factory assembled Cat going for? And no, I don't mean the one Top Gear put together. LOL. pksurveyor
By the time you pay for the cost of assembly, duty, sales tax, shipping, registration fee, and other miscellaneous out of pocket expense, it will be close to or exceeds the 6 digits depending on your option list. Alaskossie
Kitkat, I don't now about MightyMike, but I am thinking of adding a go-faster stripe down the bonnet of my silver S3, in the same gray color as my wheels....since I have to get new paint the bonnet and cowl during my repairs, in any event. It'll help me keep the nose pointed in the right direction... Sounds like the CSR that RMSC is selling has a similar color scheme.. Tom
scannon
IIRC Caterham USA charges around $3,500 to assemble the kit. You would have to add a lot of extras to hit six figures but it can be done. About all that is missing from this kit is a regular windscreen and the weather gear if you are planning on making it an all weather street car. BrunnyS1
it is a chunky monkey price for sure but... he does say "asking" so who knows
Hank
Makes me believe I can get a good asking price for my Megabusa when I put it up for sale. Almost the same spec. Good luck with the sale!

I will pass on my Birkin, but am thinking about putting a phantom stripe onto my Elise.
turboeric
I like this thread - I can show it to my wife to prove why it was an immensely sensible and responsible thing to do to buy the Westfield kit! :jester:
blubarisax
Ben, you held out on me... sounds like a great car... Perhaps I could get it for my wife! The R400 is running great and a blast to drive. Thanks for being so tolerant of me during the build process... Caterham USA
Karl, I thought this one was going to it's new home when we were talking. It is a nice car, but your orange car sure looks sharp! I hope you are enjoying it. Keep the photos coming. Missed it the first time: those are some fancy shocks you've got on there... -Ben
blubarisax
I couldn't help getting them. I'm sure you will find a new home for the CSR right away!
BrunnyS1
Road test A car with a tuned Ford 1172 cc engine and close ratio gearbox was tested by the British magazine The Motor in 1958. It was found to have a top speed of 80.4 mph (129.4 km/h), could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 16.2 seconds and had a fuel consumption of 31.0 miles per imperial gallon (9.11 L/100 km; 25.8 mpg-US). The test car cost £1157 including taxes of £386. They commented that car could be bought in component form and then it would have cost £399 for the parts from Lotus, £100 for the Ford engine and gearbox and £27 for the BMC rear axle.[6]
slomove
Just did some research on the buying power of the GBP. The car may have been only £1157, but the pound has lost about 96% of it's buying power since 1958. That means this car should cost about £30,000 nowadays or $47,000. That is a lot of money for such a slow car ;-)
