NJMP track day options

Put me on the hopeful list. It is too early for me to make a commitment now but I will by early May. I will talk with Michael D and perhaps convoy up together on Sunday. It might be nice, as someone suggested, to gather at the track that afternoon and have a social get together. I have never been to that track, are there camping facilities (showers)? Failing that, I would be interested in sharing a suite with someone (I can sleep anywhere but I will need a shower). If we get the numbers and interest we could perhaps organize food and drinks at the track for the Sunday and Monday, by having everyone chip into a common fund.

Cheers-

Dermot.

Dermot, I added you to the possibles. We're up to 13 now and we still haven't heard from Al and Mazda. Don't you guys think it would be nice to have our Founders at an event of this size?

I'll keep an eye on the registration for the event. If if looks like it will be filling up sooner than later I'll let everyone know. Hopefully, all 13 possibles can hold the date/s open. 13 or more of us out there would be a blast.

Here's a few laps of Lightning that I found on youtube for your viewing pleasure. Not a real long course at 1.9 miles but looks like there's only one long straight that Karl, Ron and Croc can make any breakout move.

Did we send a message to Mazda? I know he is still here and checking in.

He might just be afraid of putting his big girl up against yours!:D

Great Ron. We've got 13 possibles and I'm working on two others not on this forum. If we can embarass Mazda and Al into showing up. This could be a significant event.

The smack talk leading up to the event has been building. The dinner the night before should be a real Hoot. Croc's wit alone will be worth the price of admission.

So what do we have to do to get Bruce, Jen and Jack, Al and Mazda to join in on the fun?

Mazda, I certainly would wave you by. Just self preservation. It's those wide body types that you'll have to contend with. Just make your mixture a little richer and flame them as you pull alongside.

We are talking Monday June 27th and for those that are interested they are doing Thunderbolt on Tuesday June 28th. Several of us sound like we'll do both days.

Say you're in and we will focus our efforts on Al, Jack and Jen. Peer pressure is a great tool. With everyone in we could get close to 20 7s together.

If I show up, will you guys slow down and let me pass a couple times?

This thread is 9 pages long!

Somehow I don't think you will have a problem passing. With your car the ability to get past on the straights is guaranteed.

And as for the thread being 9 pages long - we are just having fun during the long cold winter months - join in!

Speaking of unburned fuel and flames, where is Roman? He is a another one that we should target for this. And I do not think Bster has committed yet.

Yep, Karl, SCDA (sports Car Driver Assoc.) is the group that hold the event. As I said, I ran with them last year and they put on an nice event.

I'm still hoping that as it gets closer to the time to register, if we still have this large of a group attending that I can convince him to let us have a 7's run group. If we get close to 20 cars I think we have a shot. I'll ping him again in March to see how registration is going. I'll try to hold us off as long as possible to give everyone the best shot at clearing their schedules.

It's sort of a balancing game, we don't want to get shut out but don't want to cough up the money before it's really necessary.

Tom,

I think it will be great to have 20 7's in a group. The visuals would be fantastic but if they have to mix in a few M3's, Boxster's, Elise's etc in the group ... so be it. The important thing is, I believe, that we have equal performance among the various groups that pan out so that no one is blocking slower cars and the fast guys can run ahead of the pack.

I just thought, if you feel you might not get the numbers you need perhaps mention it to some of the classic car clubs. You might find a few people interested in bringing out an old Jaguar or Alfa to make up the grid.

I am looking forward to this. It looks like it might turn into a USA 7's gathering on the Sunday too.

Cheers,

Dermot.

I don't have any plans to invite other car groups. This is an open to the public event that SCDA operates.

I don't think SCDA will have any problems filling the grid. They didn't last year. They usually group drivers based on skill level as opposed to car capabilities. Like I said I ran with them last year, and there were, Z06's, Porsche GT3s, Mustangs, Elises, Miatas, etc in the intermidiate group I ran in. Every one was very courteous and wave by passes on the straights are the mandatory rule.

I ran on Thunderbolt which is what we will run on the Tuesday event. It has a fast section and a tight section. I'd let them pass me on the front straight and could catch them before we got back onto the front straight, then they'd pull away and i'd catch them again. Lot's of fun.

I just thought that a bunch of 7's out there together would be even more fun. If someone has a buddy who want to join us, that's fine. I think knowing the guys you run with is a good idea.

If you remember its a driver ed event. No timing, no trophys. Then letting someone by is not only the right thing to do it's the safe thing to do.

The goal is to have safe fun exploring the capabilities of the car and your skill. Some drivers are faster, some cars are faster. Who cares?

If you want to race, then go to a race school and sign up for a race series. This is not racing. It's having fun, enjoying your car in a relatively safe environment.

HOWEVER, you are at speed and YOU are responsible for your car's mechanical condition. Check your brake pads, Fluids, Do a nut and bolt tighening check, etc.

You do need a helmet that meets their requirements. I think they like to see long sleeve shirts and pants, I think.

So from my perspective, if we can get 15 or more 7s there, then at most there will be maybe 5-8 other cars in our group. I'll try to convince him them to let us run together. If some of the "Advanced" drivers qualify for the advanced group and would prefer to run with the big dogs, that's up to them.

A fun, safe couple of days with a bunch of 7 owners is my goal. As I said before, the banter at dinner will be incredible and if KITCAT brings out the katnip again, who knows how many parking lot beauties will come of of the woodwork at the prospect of 15+ sevens to get rides in. :smilielol5:

Tom-

It's on my calendar. You happy now? ;-P.

I could certainly use a dose of John. Great memories of hanging with you guys in Birmingham. And I still have something in a bottle for you.

Looking forward to getting back in the driver's seat soon, RHD as it might be. Though I doubt SB1341 will be in NJ by end of June. Was planning on making a family trip out of taking delivery and popping in on Gert and company.

Great Al. Now, was that so difficult?:svengo: Just having you there will be good for another 5 guys showing up just to meet you.

As for getting Bessie out on the track. There will be another set of dates in September that I'll try to get another group together for again.

It will be nice to see you again and if you thought our dinners in Birmingham were fun, just wait until you see the show John, Croc, and Kitcat put on. Add Steve and a few more and they are going to have to wall off our section of the restaurant to keep the noise down.

Come on Spring!

  • 2 weeks later...

So, is anyone in the NE planning on other track days this season? I have a hard time getting away during the week but would like to find a few more weekend events. I have on my schedule April 2nd at Lime Rock and April 16/17 at NJMP.

Hi Karl,

I am definitely knocked out in April on those dates because of work committments out of town. It is only in May when I start to get my work life under control.

Cheers
