NJMP track day options

 I love it!

I figure I can be cocky and confident as I plan to check thoroughly beforehand whether I turn left or right when I leave the pit lane. That should give me 2-3 mins head start no matter how bad the rest of my driving is.:D

Anyway, I know I am not another ayrton senna behind the wheel. In my only major international quality touring car race I entered I came last (ok there were a few electrical problems with the car as well - piston went through alternator) and my times were not inspiring when the car was running ok for a few laps. But I will get out there and be prepared to take my beating from a Rover....if it lasts the 20 min session.

:jester:

All humor aside, I think we need to meet the night before for a few beers and a meal and lots of laughter. Saves the early wake up and drive down there.

Steve - Seven drive or no drive you will always be welcome to turn up. Want to bring your daily driver?

Daily driver is a 2008 GMC Envoy, we think the 7's are aero bricks !!!!

Thanks Mike,

The rear width of our cars is pretty much the same, the narrow front track on mine brings the front down to 58". Sounds like If I get the trailer made with a 72" wide deck then most everything (svelte or portly) will fit.

All the talk about rollbars made me check mine (it is an FIA bar that sits 45" high of the floor but that is relative given that the car is on 13" rims- the absolute height is 17" above the highest point on the rear chassis). On checking the rear hoop I have to say I was less than impressed with the front mounting of the "FIA" bar - a single bolt securing a C washer that is welded half way around the roll hoop, the only real purpose of which is to lock the hoop down into the sleeve in the chassis. If the car was ever upside down and still going forward at any speed there would seem to be a decent chance of the either the C mount weld or the single bolt failing and the hoop being pulled out of the sleeve backwards. Am I being paranoid here? Also does anybody have any experience of fitting the side impact / rear wheel intrusion bars, I very rarely have the full screen on and was considering fitting them, if only for the psychological advantage of having a little bit more metal between myself and the scenery.

Ok guys, the first hurdle is cleared. I emailed the organizer of the trackday last night and sent him a few questions about the potential of doing the event at NJMP.

I sent a pic of Steve's S1 and asked if that roll hoop set up was ok for their event. Good news S1 owners, he said that it IS acceptable for their event! :hurray: Now we just have to figureout what to do with Steve's head. :ack:

I asked how many were needed for our own run group and he asked how many drivers would we have. I just sent him a response that we have 9 drivers interested right now with a few plus or minus as the event date nears.

So Stig, hurry up and buy that Westfield, or Croc's SV.

Once I hear back, I'll update. With a night of beers before, this could be a great event.

Fingers crossed.

Tom

I am glad this is coming together. If anyone is intersted warming up, NASA has HPDE events at NJMP and Lime Rock in April. I will be there practicing to keep with the Thunder From Down Under!

Stig, if you have not looked at it, Croc's SV is a beauty.

Here’s the scoop. They would be very happy to accommodate us at an event. He would set aside a section of the paddock for us to park together and is sure the Photographer would take a few group shots. He said that if we wanted, he could even have a lunch set up for us (for an additional fee of course)

The only downside at the moment is that he bases his event on 25 cars per heat. At $295.00 per driver/car, that’s $7,375.00. Obviously, if we could get 25 cars than it’s no extra cost. But I suspect that that number would be pretty tough to come by. I don’t think it’s worth it unless we get pretty close to that number.

Now, that being said, at the last event I attended there, I don’t think there were more than 40 or 50 cars total, so there was no way that he had 25 cars on track at once. I would suggest that if we get a good turn out we might have some leverage. But in any case I think we could most likely all drive together at some point.

So, since we have several long cold months left before this gets serious, let’s see who else we can badger or shame into making this event.

So just to recap.

Possible attendees are:

Yellowss7 (Tom)

Croc (Mike)

Boxlologist (Jon)

Kitcat (Mike)

MichaelD

Blubarisax (Karl)

Dave D

S1 Steve

Sabbot (Stewart)

BBall7754 (Steve)

Ron (RedGoose)

Dave Hutcheson

Ottocycle (Dermot)

Slingshot (Mazda)

Still not heard from

Bryce

Al

BruceBowker

Jvbtte ( Jack)

Jlbtrans1 (Jen)

Anyone else I miss?

Tom - You can throw me on the list as a possible. I'm hoping to have my trailer by then, which makes St. Louis to NJ less of a crazy trip.

I grew up in NJ and most of my family is still there, so that's my other incentive.

Will do Steve. Just for your information, this group has two days, back to back at NJMP Monday on Lightning, and Tuesday on Thunderbolt. I plan on doing both days.

Hope you can make it. Croc's buying the first round, right Mike?:seeya:

Well, we know Karl will have to show up to show off his new fancy toys. Other than that, we'll just have to see who has the cohones to show up.:toetap05:

Maybe we should make it rounds after the event that way we buy for those that earned it.

Will be a good time either way. I'll bring my cousin John along to video the on track action too he's always good for a laugh and doesn't drink too much.

Tom:

Ditto both days for me. If I am going to drive that far, I want to get my money's worth. I have the days blocked off the calendar and my wife has blessed it so it looks like the real deal.

If if I read your prior posts, it is all theoretical at this point tho-no actual booking of the track has occurred for us that day exclusively ($$$$), or for us in tandem with another group to bring down costs, correct?

Mike, the trackday IS booked by the company that runs the event. They run trackdays at Lime Rock, and a few other tracks in the northeast.

It is a first come first serve type of registration, but like I said, he didn't come close to selling out last year. He does sell out at Lime Rock though.

He emailed me yesterday again that he would really like to see a nice group of 7's at his events. To be clear, they are running the event whether we book or not.

So, what I think we should do is, to try to get as much interest/commitment here as possible, and as we get closer to the date, firm up the count and then we'll register. That way no one gets pinched if they have to cancel too early.

I'll keep in touch with them and try to coordinate our "7's gathering."

I'm trying to get a few more 7 drivers in the area that aren't on the site to join us as well. I'm hoping we can get 10-15 cars out. Or should I aim higher?

ooohhhh!!! a challenge! :D I doubt it is cohones that is the problem. The bigger issue is people channel their inner woman and get lost, or distracted, or just are worried about messing up their hair (e.g. miata drivers). Did I miss offending anyone?

Is this the same John that I terrorized as a passenger at LEO travelling from Boyd's Bare Wear House to the Einsenhower Motel? Excellent news! He may not have a Seven but he has the spirit!
