Pictures of Sevens next to Other Interesting Cars

Recommended Posts

We went into town this morning for breakfast around 0800. A bunch of cars began to arrive for a fund raising event today, Sunday 27 February 2011. It was for the weekly cruise night held every Friday evening from April thru September. As we were eating in the side walk cafe this dwarf racer parked in front of our Seven.

And you thought that Sevens are small!

One of those GMC motorhomes pulled into the pits at one of our local tracks about 7 - 8 years ago.

I wondered why he was parking it in the pits until I saw him swing up the rear cap on the body to reveal a Se7en inside the motorhome. He lowered the rear of the motorhome using the air suspension and installed two short ramps and rolled the Se7en out.

Years later when I bought my Se7en I tracked down the owner and he sent me the pictures below. Unfortunately he had abandoned the project and sold the motorhome which he had named the Mudhen. His was the short wheelbase version and I figured if I could find one of the long wheelbase versions there would be room for the car and a living space. What a way that would have been to travel around the country visiting track events.

Years ago at a Watkins Glen vintage event I watched the entire rear section of a Prevost bus open up vertically like the side baggage door of a Greyhound, and a vintage Mini backed out !

I've also seen a large side panel of a Prevost open up to reveal a large motorcycle on a pallet that slides out...

... it's only money.

Is that a pedal car 7 on the back of the trailer?

I Want One! The grandkids would love it. They fight for "who's next" for rides in my 7.

Its bigger than a pedal car and has a chainsaw engine in the boot. I think it is a one off and the owner is unlikely to sell it, I already tired. Its name is .7 (Point 7) which is roughly its size in comparison to a real Lotus 7.

Thanks, Skip!

It truly is a wonderful piece of work, and "motorized" just puts the icing on the cake.

Now I know I won't show this to the grandkids! They would be all over it like white on rice and I'd never get back to my Lotus.;)

Hmmm...just think what a cnc machine, a digital probe and a billet of aluminum could do........

Tom, owner of Beauchamp Racing and Restoration in Colorado Springs built the 5/8ths scale Seven on the trailer. Email is: beauchampracing at yahoo dot com

Thanks for the info, Mike.

I took the liberty of sending an email asking if he would like to post some info on the 5/8ths 7 on the forum. It truly is a little gem of a project and any child would have to be seriously restrained from wholeheartedly embracing it.

My ex-Birkin with a gaggle of Brit cars at Cars & Coffee in Irvine, California a couple years ago:

In keeping with the Mini theme, here it is next to my electric Mini E, which I also don't have anymore:

Did the MINI E work for you? How long did you get to use it before they took it back? I'm doing some work up at the Tesla plant in Palo Alto and they are doing a lot of different cars as test bench vehicles but the battery shop is where any real breakthrough has to come from. Still WAY too long to get a recharge and the thinner the battery foils get the harder to stuff high energy recharges into them. If you can't get a decent recharge in as long as it takes to stop for lunch or dinner it's just not going to get over with the public. Humm. maybe we could go all Italian and make the meal last for about three hours....

Jim, I had it for one year (June 2009- June 2010). It worked great for me! The Mini was cheap to run and fun to drive.

I could easily count on a 100 mile range with mostly freeway driving, and longer in city/suburban driving due to regenerative braking. My longest drive on one charge was 148 miles. I never got stranded and "range anxiety" was gone within a few weeks of getting the car. My longest trip was 220 miles with one recharge in the middle at a high-amp charger (couple hours).

I used it as my commuter car during the week and errand car on the weekends, both perfect uses for an electric car. If I needed more range (weekend trips and vacations) we just took my wife's minivan. I plugged it into my home charger when I got home from work and a timer would start the charge after 9pm when electric rates were low (I had a time-of-use electric plan from Edison). In the morning the car was always 100% charged and ready for the day. I now have solar panels on my roof so my next EV will use free electricity.

Obviously it wouldn't work as someone's only car if you needed to consistently drive more than 100 miles a day, but for a family that has two cars I think one could easily be an electric.

Hank,

I hope you and Tom can get a deal worked out. I'm considering asking Tom to make one for my kids.

Mike
