slngsht Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 BTW, here is where I wrecked (from memory - may not be the exact setup)... I didn't have telemetry running, so I'm just guessing at speeds... About 40mph slalom coming towards the curb. A little box with sharp 90 degrees to force you to slow way down, but wide open into a higher speed slalom on the other side. I hit that box perfectly, but opened it up a little too aggressive and got sideways. Decided to put both feet in and hit the curb, rather than try to correct... Missed the light pole by a few feet.
Jawfish Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Ouch that sucks... Having repaired a Locost with the same kind of incident, you may want to check if any chassis tube waved. It's pretty incredible how far down the tube the damge can go... It our case the cube had bent by a lot for the first 10 inches, but there was a slight wave up to the fire wall... I dind't notice at first untill I put it on the table to start fixing it. Important thing is that your ok...Metal firberglass can be repaired or replace. Cheers, Fred

Well Arya it will not make a good crawler unless you jack it up about 24 inches and make the suspension travel about 18 inches.....:rofl:....but if it keeps it from going to the scrap pile I would say yes as it is fixable I would think. Waiting for my phone to ring Arya :toetap: :lol: I'm going to look at the other car this afternoon.

I do have some soreness, but I think it's from all the pushing, pulling, lifting, etc... to get the car home with no front wheels :lol: Not feeling bad at all.

Otherwise I'll keep, rebuild and continue having fun with it. The way my free time goes though... it'll be a while if I have to work on it...

After looking at the course design I have to ask if this was a SCCA sanctioned event? According to SCCA rules the course boundary shall not normally pass closer than 25 feet from solid objects (Rule 2.1C under Course Safety and Layout Rules). There is no question in my mind that you would not have had 25 feet on either side of any competitors car through that concrete curbed island. Then you had the additional potential problem with the light pole. No question in my mind that the accident could have been far worse and the "both feet in" rule may have save your life. Don't forget that any competitor has the right to question the safety of any course design and is encouraged to address their concern with the assigned Safety Steward or Stewards at any SCCA event. For the record, I have refused to run on courses that I did not feel was safe as recent as last April, 2010. Jack
