Bought me a new toy - M35A2 W/W :)

Recommended Posts

In preparation for the Mayan calendar running out next year and the imminent zombie invasion I bought my first checklist item: M35A2 W/W

13,530 lb - curb weight

23,530 lb - GVWR

The M35A2 is popularly powered by a LDT-465 engine made by either: Continental Motors, Hercules or White. It is an in-line 6 cylinder, turbocharged multifuel engine, 478 cubic inches, with 134 bhp and 330 lb-ft of torque. This is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission and divorced 2-speed sprague-operated transfer case (Rockwell 136-21). Multifuel engines are designed to reliably operate on a wide variety of fuels, to include diesel fuel, jet fuel, kerosene, heating oil, used motor oil, transmission fluid or gasoline. Gasoline should only be used in an emergency because it does not properly lubricate the injector pump. While using gasoline, common practice calls for the addition of at least 1 quart of clean motor oil per 15 gallons of gasoline for proper pump lubrication where available. 9-11 mpg.

Axles:Rockwell FC 240 HXI front; Rockwell CF 240 HX3 rear

Differentials:6.72:1 ratio

Brakes:air assisted hydraulic (no CDL required)

Quick everyone on the forum who has a Miata hide it as it looks like Hank is getting ready to run over some Miata's in his neck of the woods...:smilielol5:...but only if he can catch them while they are parked......

So where will you keep your new toy and how big are the ramps going to be to carry you 7 in the back of it?

"And Bubba looked bewildered at the crushed remains of his 1995 Ford Contour which he had left in the disabled parking space while he went grocery shopping with the other trailer trash at the Gardere Wal Mart. It came in a flash...this was that godammed Hank's doing!"

Putting aside the soap opera scenario above - what on earth are you planning to do with this monster? Conquering a few countries (or counties)? Towing an aircraft carrier?

Hank,

WOW! And I thought my own fleet of ex-military all-wheel-drive vehicles was somewhat intimidating.....

1980 Mercedes Benz Unimog 4X4 (24-volt, 6-cyl diesel)

1975 Volvo CV303 6X6 (24 volt, 6-cyl gas)

1990 MWG Esarco 8X8 (12-volt, 4-cyl. turbo-diesel)

Perhaps we should combine our resources, and start a free-lance military motor pool...?

I remember, as a marine brat in the late 60s, taking a truck similar to that out in the middle of the desert for a boyscout campover. I was thinking that as the wars wind down (hopefully they are) there should be some good deals on surplus military stuff.

For the zombie thing, you could have just bought some brain-flavored zombie mints here - $2.50 for 100. http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/nn384/BBL-Sean/smileys/afdbsmiley.gif

As for the Mayans, if they were so dang smart, why did their society perish in the seventeenth century? Their calendar may as well have stopped at 1699. :seeya:

edited to add: cool truck! :)

She weighs 13,530 lb. Top speed per GPS was 58 mph. I always wanted an off-road vehicle to hang out with that group of people. I like the group of people that own used military vehicles too. There are a few rallies scheduled this spring and I can't wait to go to them.

Alaskossie: drool! Amazing fleet you got there.

Very cool. But I would not know where to park such a monster here in Pasadena.

But if somebody knows where to find a DKW Munga, let me know. Drove it in the army (Germany) long time ago and would love to have one.

Solid 50 hp 3-cyl 2-stroke engine :)

Alaskossie those are some trucks. I love Unimogs but the others are really cool too. There is a big military surplus yard not far from here that have alot of duece 1/2 trucks

And M477. He sure seems to think slot of theme because he wants 6k for junk trucks that run needless to say he doesn't sell many.

Hank,

All I can tell you is:

If you get it crossed up drifting a turn with all wheel drive, don't let go of the steering wheel and expect it to center. You need to stay busy cranking.

Gary,

I quickly learned not to wrap my thumbs around this steering wheel. I cup my hands along the circumference of the wheel. Those big tires catch something and they will break a thumb rather quickly! After completing the turn I simply let go of the wheel to center back (hands close to the wheel though). No power steering so she's a pain in the butt to steer unless you are moving. I would like to retrofit the air-assisted steering unit but it is quite expensive. A hydraulic steering kit is $2000+.
