7 vs SUV

Recommended Posts

Not exactly a fair fight but the Donkervoort took it well and will fight another day.

The insurance company has been awesome and basically wrote a blank check to get it fixed and I definitely found the right body guy.

He's been working on it for about a week now and all damage has been removed. Now it's time to re-skin!

As I was pulling into subdivision from highway, I see the wife and 9 mo daughter waiting for my son's school bus to drop him off. Slow down to make the turn but the guy behind me was busy texting so he and his Murano slammed into me hard enough to make my sunglasses fly (he ran over those too), and give the family quite a scare. There are concrete storm drains on both sides of the street so if I actually had the wheel turned at all, I would have ended up in one of them with a lot more damage.

They charged him with failing to slow down and the neck and upper back were pretty sore for a few days but all of the x-rays came back clean.

At first I actually felt sorry for the guy. Remember I mentioned my wife was standing right there... She ripped into the guy for quite awhile and I was trying to calm her down. Later I found out that he was texting and I wish I had let her pummel him.

I was trying to think of a better way to signal that I'm stopping or turning (leds that are currently on there are pretty small) but I don't think anything short of not driving would have avoided this accident. Bare aluminum makes it pretty difficult to say that they didn't see me and it's not like the car is subtle in any other way.

I am glad you came out of this relatively unscathed.

In this situation, I don;t think there is much you could have done. He was texting and not paying attention. Not much short of a train horn would have got his attention that you were slowing and turning.

Add me to the 'Glad you are OK' list. It is part of everyday driving in a '7' to drive defensively, but how the he** do you protect against situations like that!

I do always watch the rear view when slowing quickly, and it has saved my bacon at least once. But a slow speed neighborhood turn and getting hit? Texting and driving should = huge fine. Anyway, again glad you are OK.

Glad you are OK. I would quickly vote to have anyone caught texting while driving to lose their license for 1 years and their car confiscated and sold. If it is not their car then pay the equivalent.

One of my guests was plowed into at a stop sign in NJ by a 17 year old in his daddy's big Audi. His father is some big wig in Vorizon so I am guessing the kid got off scot free.

Wow, So glad you are ok. Being rear ended has always been a concern of mine in these cars. You can out stop almost anything on the street and of course being so low.

takes you out of the normal line of site. Sure glad you're OK.

Are there pics in the original post? I swear I saw them at some point yesterday.

The pictures are still there this AM but when I forwarded a link to the thread to a friend he could not see the pictures either.

Thought you guys might enjoy this. Here is the villain, missing an 8 inch piece of plastic! The plastic was found right next to my smashed sunglasses.

Odd, the pics in post 1 will not show on my phone but are just fine on the laptop. If I've done it wrong, please let me know and I'll repost.
