The speed is just incredible!

35 second or so laps around a 2.5 mile track. Just nuts

Tom

I can remember being at Pole Day qualifying in '62 and thinking that the speed was incredible too. In those days you could look down over the cars as they drove through the short chute between turns 1 and 2. You could see just how close the tires came to the outside wall (just a few inches).

P.J. was the 1st to break the 150mph barrier in qualifying driving Ol' Calhoun with a 4-lap average (not the 1st to go 150mph for a single lap). 150mph was just under 60 seconds a lap!

You should have come to our Team Lotus 500 party the afternoon before the race. Had a great time with over 30 Lotus cars, Se7ens and Takuma Satos' #5 Team Lotus car. Takuma, E.J. Viso and Tony Kanan were there for over an hour along with other Team Lotus members.

We had a great time with great food and beverage.

Queens Way Circle is where the party was held. I'm about 10 minutes away on the Carmel/Westfield border (1/2 mile west of 151st Street and US 31 area).

Sounds like we are about three miles away as the eagle flies.

I'm sure we will do something like this again next year. Our 35 member Lotus owner's club, CHILL (Club House of Indianapolis Lotus Lovers) has a good relationship with Team Lotus, Lotus USA and Lotus UK. I'll make a post a few weeks before the event if we repeat it.

Last year our CHILL 500 get together was at the Speedway in the Team garage. We also did something with the Indiana Mortorsports Association earlier in the week at the Governor's mansion near downtown.

Our club president lives on Queen's Way Circle and has a very nice car collection which includes four Lotus cars.

Jack, definately sounds like a plan for next year. We are already making a list of things that we are going to add to our must do at Indy list. This one is now on the list. Now who do we see about getting a suite for race day? That and a Police escort to and from the track. That traffic was brutal yesterday.

I went to the Indy 500 in 1971 and it was the best three day party I ever went to, they even had a car race at the end! LOL. I paid to park my van on a lawn (and access to the house toilet)just across from a track underpass on Thursday evening when they started closing off the streets for the event. Semi trailers full of beer selling cases out the back and all night block parties right through to Sunday morning. The police directed the closest parked cars through first and I raced across the golf course flat out and ended up right at the fence next to the track. Cost of the admission was $5 and I still have the ticket stashed somewhere.

Probably a "bit more" than 5 bucks to get in now but I bet the party is still a big draw and as much fun.

I went to the inaugural U.S.G.P. at Indy, but have never been to the 500. I have a friend who goes every year, where he meets up with his friends Florence and Jim. They have great seats, but they have to sing to get them. Here they are shortly before the start of last year's race, with my friend Kent in the back waiting to take a photo, and Florence, Mari, and Jim in the foreground. This photo was taken by Mari's daughter Nancy.

Attending LOG 28 and getting to drive the track convinced me that I want to go to the Indy 500. I hope that next year we can do it. It would be great to hook up with a bunch of Se7en and Lotus folks.
