JohnCh
During the 10 years I’ve had my Westfield, people have asked me if it’s a Morgan, an MG, “a real Lotus”, and even a Ferrari -- twice! (must be because it’s red). But this was a first. At today's cars & coffee event someone asked “Is that a real Caterham?” I wasn’t quite sure how to respond… -John

slngsht
Maybe it's because Caterham is getting some more name recognition these days with the recent news related to the Lotus deal.

JohnCh
Could have been worse, I could have been driving a Lotus 7 Agree about the recent F1 exposure possibly having a hand. The Top Gear segments certainly couldn't hurt either. Must make Ansar Ali feel good, but Colin is probably a little miffed... And here was me thinking you had a Birkin SV? :jester: How the heck did you get off my ignore list? :jester:

Kitcat
Speaking of firsts: A guy in a huge honking pickup looked over at me as we were slowly cruisin side by side down the street today and he said:"How fast does it go?" I said, faster than your truck. So he down shifted and took off like he had a jet engine. Almost ran thru the red lite ahead. I gave him a friendly wave and turned right immediately:). Now that is funny.....ashame you did not have a GoPro setup and running to post it up as that is funny and priceless.... I think I would have been laughing to hard to have turned or to have waved at him being a big olf of a red neck.....:driving:
jlumba81
I've had a few people say that their truck could run right over my 7. Also had a fellow in a truck ask if it had a vw beetle drivetrain. Most people are nice but you get a few bad apples now and then.
Boxologist
VW has been the donor for many homebuilts and kit cars for decades. It a legit question. Don't be offended.
snookwheel
VW has been the donor for many homebuilts and kit cars for decades. It a legit question. Don't be offended. Yep.. I have a Solo Vee and have had Vette guys ask about the engine after smoking 'em on a Solo Course... I always enjoy telling them it's just a 1600 VW! jlumba81
I know the vw has been used in a lot of kits but wouldn't that make the engine placement wrong or fwd? Also when they ask the price and I say 35 they think $3500, not $35K. The guy w vw comment almost had a heart attack when I said that. I've given rides to a few people who ask for them. Pretty much all of the enjoyed the ride. I'd say the oddest comments would be coming from my cousin asking if the 7 had an auto trans or a sound system. But also said I should add wire wheels and more chrome. I don't mind wire wheels just not my taste and are pricy. Also had a couple younger guys (19 and 22) tell me to add a 8" sub in the 7. I think I've been asked if the 7 is a MG, austin healy, bughatti, but most know its a kit car. Edited July 10, 2011 by jlumba81
