Shift change light

My old car had the Omex shiftlight which I liked for its small size and unobtrusive looks - control box was mounted under the dash out of sight. I mounted it under the scuttle to the right of the wheel.

The new car now has the ACES shiftlight which Caterham sell. Similarly mounted under the scuttle to the right of the wheel as seen in this pic:

If I had my time again, I would go for the Omex on the new car. The ACES works fine, just too bulkly for what it does.

The DRE is small enough that you can mount it to the windscreen. I fabricated a very simple aluminum bracket that attaches with double-sided tape and puts the shiftlights in my line of sight without blocking the view down the road.

Hi,

As KiwiBirkin said the ecliptech/shift 1 are easy to use and have a lot of features. Mine is mounted on the underside of the Birkin scuttle in the centre. The LED lights are very bright and your peripheral vision picks them up easily. Very easy to install and they come with all wiring and terminals to fit into your harness as well as easy to follow instructions.

Cheers

Maurice

I added a small red LED 1" cluster to my Birkin. It has an ECU so I just programed it in to where I have my soft cut off. Even in bright day light it catches my eye. It is mounted just under the glare sheild and is aimed to my eyes. I think it was less than $25. My soft cut off is 200 RPM below the full cut off.

I use the Nology shift light.

http://www.nology.com/shiftlight.html

It only has 4 lights, which I like for the general everyday driving, two greens, a yellow and a red. As a result you don't have all kinds of lights racing across the dash while doing your general commuting. On the track, shift at the red.

Hi, just a quick question to Jerry on the Nology,Omex sequential light hook up. The instructions http://www.omextechnology.co.uk/OMSLS.pdf it shows for plus and minus coil hookup, how did you hook up with the coil on plug configuration on the s2k?

thx

Mike:

It has been 4 years since I installed it, but I seem to remember I used the tach signal. This is Terminal #19 on ECM connector A. That is what drives the tach.

I simply used switched +12 and GROUND for the power to the unit, I don't know why the Omex manual refers to the "coil"

I mounted the sender on the aluminum panel under the dash, and ran the display cable over the top of the dashboard to a cable clamp on the windshield mount, and velcroed the display to the dash. I had planned a better display installation, but it worked, I was lazy, and I left it that way.

I was also lazy when wiring, as all the initial wiring has markers showing where the wire comes from on each end, but I didn't do that on the shift light install.

If you install one, and are programming it, remember the Honda engine will NOT go to full rpms UNTIL the temperature is up to normal, so if the engine is cold, you can't check the light setpoints at the top end.
