I do recall a 160mph crash 20 years ago into a earth embankment and have the metal plates, rods, screws, scars and now arthritis to prove it. Karl - you picked tires to run into, much better than my choice!

blubarisax Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 I use the AIM Smartycam and have it connected to my ECU to get RPM. It uses GPS for speed and position. Gears are calculated from RPM and Speed. I like it, but wish the video was HD.

blubarisax Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 So far, the car is stripped of the damaged parts, but the body work has not been taken off. The parts list comes up to $15,300 so far. I think the frame is slightly twisted (lower left down 1/2 inch) so we are looking at a "long front" chassis replacement and new sideskins. If anyone has reference measurements for the chassis that would be helpful. I am trying to get them from Caterham as well. Caterham UK says the parts are all readily available so with any luck I am back on the road in a couple of months.

Why not just get a new one, transfer your engine and transmission and any other goodies not trashed in the crash and then part out the rest? I think you might come out ahead of the game and have a fresh, non-repaired frame.

No 1 reason is when you want to sell the car its accident free, get the old shell repaired and its sale-able to a racer. Cost of shipping a new frame is around $2000. PM for our shippers details.
