Alaskossie
Terry, Off-topic, but I believe I have an unused set of those Mog headlamp brackets, if you are interested. i did not use them on my build. And Croc -- sorry about the off; looks like you were as prepared as you could have been. Best of luck in getting back on the road (and track). Tom - I am flattered you think I am a good looking stud like Karl (Blubarisax) but I have to admit he had the off and not me.
blubarisax
You see Tom, Mike is the smart Johnson brother... he does not run head on into walls when he spins! And Mike, wasn't it you the you the girls were after at LOG 30? Karl
Croc
You see Tom, Mike is the smart Johnson brother... he does not run head on into walls when he spins! Oh how I wish that were true. I do recall a 160mph crash 20 years ago into a earth embankment and have the metal plates, rods, screws, scars and now arthritis to prove it. Karl - you picked tires to run into, much better than my choice!
MichaelD
Karl would you like some good videos if various rides at Summit Point to review. I am confident you will have the car fixed in time. For those that can not make June, NASA runs Summit August 18,19 and Nov 3,4.

blubarisax
I use the AIM Smartycam and have it connected to my ECU to get RPM. It uses GPS for speed and position. Gears are calculated from RPM and Speed. I like it, but wish the video was HD.

blubarisax
So far, the car is stripped of the damaged parts, but the body work has not been taken off. The parts list comes up to $15,300 so far. I think the frame is slightly twisted (lower left down 1/2 inch) so we are looking at a "long front" chassis replacement and new sideskins. If anyone has reference measurements for the chassis that would be helpful. I am trying to get them from Caterham as well. Caterham UK says the parts are all readily available so with any luck I am back on the road in a couple of months.

blubarisax
A CBU is 4,100 GBP. I hate to think of the FedEx cost. We have discussed this as an option, hard to say yet if it would make sense.
scannon
If you add in the labor costs you are getting close to a new kit in price. Why not just get a new one, transfer your engine and transmission and any other goodies not trashed in the crash and then part out the rest? I think you might come out ahead of the game and have a fresh, non-repaired frame.

Sorry to hear about the crash. The Caterham parts web page lists the cost of a replacement chassis at £3,800 before VAT: here. edit: Oops! I see the SV one costs £4,100 before VAT. I had forgotten that yours is the SV chassis. Edited April 13, 2012 by Sean

I would strongly encourage you to buy a new frame. No 1 reason is when you want to sell the car its accident free, get the old shell repaired and its sale-able to a racer. Cost of shipping a new frame is around $2000. PM for our shippers details. My 2 cents.
