Michigan Seveners?

Al N.

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to round up some Seveners for a friend who is interested in learning more about Sevens and perhaps making the jump into one.

If you're from Michigan and interested in helping "convert" another owner via test drives, etc., please send me a PM here or shoot me an email if you know my address. Tx.

I think he's looking at relatively low hp, summer daily driverish sort of car...not some crazy monster (like I know some of the clubbers have!). ;-P

Thanks in advance.

Hijacking this thread for my own benefit...

I am interested in learning more about the Seven experience, as it looks to be a very "pure" sports car experience and more engaging than most other vehicles on 4 wheels. Would anyone in the Metro Area be interested in meeting, talking Sevens and potentially taking me for a ride in their Seven once spring is fully here?

To tell you a little about myself: I am a mechanical engineer by education and employed as a chassis system design engineer at the GM Tech Center. I have done a fair amount of wrenching at home, as resurrected many 1960-70s GM cars from long storage into summer daily drivers and built & maintained a Cal-Look Volkswagen Super Beetle since 1994 (1776cc engine, Weber carbs, close-ratio transaxle, 4-wheel disc brakes, etc). I've autocrossed, drag raced & done HDPE events, as well as some kart racing (all for fun, not competitively). In short: I am a decent amateur wrench and a decent driver. My summer driver for the last 10 years is a 1999 Corvette Z51 coupe. I am leaning toward something more engaging as my next toy car.

I live in Royal Oak, Michigan. Send a PM if interested!

Another thread resurrection/hijack, sorry  ........

I'm a British expat living in SE Michigan, Caterhams are very sentimental to me and have a special place in my heart from childhood. If all goes to plan I will be looking to buy my own Caterham this summer.

I'm 6ft6/6ft7 and would like to see if I can still squeeze into an SV (I know I have no chance in the regular S3 chassis). I drove a friends SV (somewhat comfortably) back home in England 5/10 years ago.

Are there any local SV owners who might let me hop in the drivers seat of their car for a few minutes? - Please PM me.

yeah, Karl the original owner may have even been 6'8". The orange SV I bought from him does have the lowered floors and a tall roll cage. I'm 6'1 and before I put the tillet seats on adjustable runners, I had to sit on a pad and have one behind me to see over the wind deflector and reach the pedals.

Unfortunately, I am in Pa, so not proximate for a test. But if you make want to make a trip out to NJMP for our July 7's gathering, you will get your fill of caterhams. Not quite the number at Stoneleigh, but probably the most you'll see in one place in the US. Tom

Even more of a hack of this post but....

Some drastic changes in my life has me really considering downsizing my car count and spending more time with my wife and family. My "7" isn't a Caterham, it's a WCM Ultralite S2K which is slightly more friendly to larger drivers. Not a problem for a 6'7" driver to fit except for the usual footwell issues where your not going to be driving in size 14 tennis shoes. Car is stored for the winter here in CA but if anyone has an interest they can PM and I'll send some details. Havent put together any kind of "add" yet as too much other stuff going on. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12203&stc=1ent put togeteher

He was closer to 6'8" We did put Karl in my old yellow SV (now with JLumba) before he ordered his own Caterham to work out how badly he popped over the top of the regular Caterham roll bar. He fit just fine with the seat all the way back - no pedal box issues. I have photos somewhere of that day. That allowed him to confirm he would fit an SV with the S-type leather seats, a tall Caterham roll bar and lowered floors for road driving. But then he later went for a taller custom scaffolding so he could go on track... and the madness set in...
