mrmustang
So I finally picked up another Lotus 7 replica yesterday out of our classifieds HERE, a nice trip up to Boston (not quite home yet), a quick load up, and that is about all the seat time to date in the car. Specs from the craigslist ad 1969 lotus 7 replica Birkin s3 kit Zetec 4cyl 142hp Jenvey throttle bodies Dta ecu 16k miles MA title 5 spd t-9 Once we get home and I find some spare time, I'll be delving into the car. The good new is that it was mechanic owned, so I know the car is up to par. The bad news is, I have never owned a Birkin before and I am starting from scratch knowledge wise. I've already been to the Birkin Direct site and downloaded all of their PDF's, so I guess I will start with those. My only real question right now is, how do I identify what chassis number I have? Have not even had the bonnet off the car yet, so it may be a moot point if their is a chassis plate on the firewall or footbox, but figured I'd ask anyway. Finally, I want to thank Gary for his observations on the car, it helped during our negotiations. Thanks in advance, Bill S. Now I have to find a nice set of driving shoes, as my Merrill hiking sneakers were not the greatest fit when I loaded the car on my trailer yesterday :banghead:

Gumball
Bill, I'd like to get an update on your Birkin driving impressions after you've had it a while. Specifically how it compares to a Cobra replica. (I also have a replica - an FFR - and have considered selling my Roadster some day for a Lotus Seven-type car.) It looks like you got a very nice car and I'm very curious how you'll like it as compared to a "Cobra". Enjoy!
wemtd
Bill The birkin should have a frame number in two places: the passenger side diagonal front brace, and i beneath the roll bar mount. Congrats on the new purchase Edit: - it looks like Bernie already replied
mrmustang
Bill The birkin should have a frame number in two places: the passenger side diagonal front brace, and i beneath the roll bar mount. Congrats on the new purchase Edit: - it looks like Bernie already replied Got it, brought it over Bill, Congrats! If the car was built from the basic kit, it will have a 7 character number like mine - "BIYXXXX" (Build It Yourself). If it was built from a rolling chassis, it will have a longer number. The number appears in two places on the chassis. One under one of the front legs of the rollover bar. Another on the left side upper horizontal diagonal frame tube in the engine compartment. One thing you want to check is the front ride height. It appears in the pic in the Craigslist ad that it is set too low - the lower control arms are parallel with the ground. This can result in bent lower control arms. The ride height in front must be set to 294mm between the shock eyes. There is a discussion of this and factory drawings with the specs at the birkinowners yahoo mailing list in the "Files" area: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/birkinowners/files/ You (and anyone else here) would be most welcome to join that list - lots of Birkin specific expertise available. Regards, Bernie Same as the VIN on the title (located on the drivers side) anyone that can decipher ? K1NW1AB1015 Thanks in advance,

GB (yes, I know who you are and what you own) foot boxes are an issue, The FPSB rides better The "7" handles better.
