Hello,

I have a Caterham (clone) sitting in my storage unit that I will realistically never get to do what I wanted to do with. I imported it a few years back with the idea of turning it into a fun track toy, weekend runabout, and cross country tourer torture device (much better than my Ducati which is even more torturous for 1k mile trips).

It was advertised as a 1980 Caterham and appears as such on the import documents but the EU title show Bauer (dauer?) as the make and the vin number is not a caterham vin.

The previous owner did a great job cataloging the build with photos in a three ring binder that is also in my storage unit.

I do not know much about these cars so please excuse any omissions or incorrect info. This is as much a "what is this" as it is a for sale ad.

Car is in Dothan Alabama.

The hood still has the protective blue film on it and I have some attachment hardware that came with it.

Live axle and and engine have dripped a few times since she went into storage last year.

I have driven her around town with no issues beside occasional popping from one of the carbs. Lights, wipers and heater blower work as do the gauges.

It is not registered but I can accomplish that prior to sale if desired.

If anyone has any information they would like to add, including what this is worth, please feel free.

Thanks again,

Oscar

PS long time lurker, finally gave into not modding/ restoring and sadly here's the FS ad.

Thread 3 shows a Dutton build plate but it does not look like their seven replica, the S1? Also the only Dauer I ever heard of was a 962 replica.

Maybe it was an Eddie Bauer edition?

Dutton was a replica builder who built Lotus 7 replicas in the early 70's.

Sorry, not familiar enough with them to help you on value.

Dutton thats it. That's what I get for trying to pull stuff from memory. I wish It was a Dauer!

Mike,

I'm originally a NYer. This car will end up at my Girlfriends house in Flushing sometime before winter if I can't get it sold.

Boy, if it's not a caterham, then they sure used a lot of caterham parts. the Dash, nose cone, Wings, rear lights, and engine sure look like standard caterham fare. Very nicely done if it's a knock off.

I have to agree Tom, I would say it looks Caterham all the way to me.

If you guys don't mind I will go recover the build up binder and scan some pages and see what you guys think. I can snag some extra pics while I'm in there too.

Oscar,

Could that word have meant something other than the brand name, or a DMV term for a vehicle that is not the norm? Just a thought.

Interesting steering linkage, it appears that the Pinto flex shaft was used similar to the Fejer 7 from Canada.

Or am I just seeing things?

Nice looking unit.

I finally had a moment to go to my storage unit and grab the binder. turns out it was much more data about the previous owner and less about the kit.

here are some pictures of pictures:
